  1. I cannot help on the bargainer tree aspect - except to say it sounds like a good idea to me; but I dont have the experience to know

I am playing a Dragon Mage and I play single aspect Mentalism with polearms with life leech or leech life

Mentalism has Mind Blaze which is a placeable Area of Effect attack and it's my main killer; it also has a buff and a debuff, which I tend not to use much

I make sure my defense and armor rating are good (dexterity and blacksmith arts etc) and I am pretty hardy - no deaths so far

Of course I am only at level 35 in silver so my experience thus far may not apply to higher levels and difficulties

I dont have a dedicated shopper or any shared equipment - everything is self found; I have Enhanced Perception and Bargaining to help me get better equipment

There is a guide in the Dragon Mage section that goes into single aspect Mentalism.

The finding there was that Mentalism is powerful and viable. The author took Alchemy for defense but found it was unnecessary

    Hope that is some use

    good luck

  2. Well, shortly after I tested the forum and replied to you I came back to Dark Matters

and hey presto! it works now  :)

I'm now able to navigate the threads, so hopefully whatever it was is resolved and I wont have any further issues

I'm back playing Sacred 2 (Dragon Mage) and I enjoy reading the in-depth analyses you and others have written over the years

helps me make my skills choices etc

    Thanks

  3. Hi Gogo

No I am still unable to use the forum threads with my PC or phone

I can only load the first page of any thread :(

My phone and my PC internet are with different service providers

I have gone to a few other forums I use to check that I can use them and I can in all cases

So I only have this issue with Dark Matters

Very odd - has no one else reported this issue?

I will ask a friend to try on their PC & phone and get back to you

  4. I cleared the cache and tried darkmatters.org and still the same issue

I can move between threads, but not between pages within a thread

So I can only view the first page of any thread

I tried Internet Explorer on PC; and I tried 2 browsers with my phone (Chrome & the Samsung browser)

I get the same result in all cases - infinite loading screen

I cannot go past the first page of a thread on PC or phone in any browser I have

  5. @ Flix

I always had a lot of slowdowns and stuttering in towns on my previous rigs; but no crashes. The slowdowns bothered me enough to put the game aside repeatedly with the intention to wait until I had a rig that could run it properly. It was disappointing, but it didn't move me to anti-Sacred raging like some.

I came to the conclusion it was a CPU bottleneck due to the code not being well optimised. But that is just a best guess. I am not a programmer.

Does anyone know, does the game code run single or multicore? I still had problems on my previous Core2Duo (2.4Ghz).

Many older games are unable to use multicores, so how well they run depends on the speed of the individual cores

Thus far on my current rig I have had no slowdowns or stuttering or crashes and I am having a blast with the game; finally able to get into it properly.

  6. Personnaly I'm on Windows 7 pro 64bits and I've never managed to get Sacred 2 Gold (GoG version or steam) to work properly whatever I did (I've almost tried all I think); it keeps crashing (Sacred2.exe has ceased to function....), like Androdion said, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes 2, I think I can't get more thyan 30 minutes without a crash, very boring, while my pc runs like a charm for other games or whatever.

I've even been burnt by a french forumer for having advised him to instal CM patch: he said his game was always crashing after the instal while it worked properly before, so...

Very odd; I wonder why that is?

Do you use the CM patch?

  7. I recently clashed with a character on the Steam forums who insists that Sacred 2 will not run on modern machines or operating systems; meaning anything after XP I think. I think he wants the game removed from Steam; or a warning placed on the store page

What is the experience of the vets on this forum?

Personally I run the game on an i3 with W7 64Bit and it has never run better

Prior to this I had trouble running it - very bad stuttering, especially in towns

How about Sacred 2 on W8 and W10?

  8. You are both right

    And thank you for replies

The word is applied to a genus of apple trees; specifically crabapples which are small and sour

Could that be why the term malus was applied

Or I wonder has it anything to do with the biblical myth of Adam & Eve - in the sense of the sin or evil of Adam & Eve

Also used in the sense of a penalty clause

The word is a Latin word - in Latin it means bad or evil

Strange they chose that word; it is not at all common in English

  9. I keep coming across the word malus in skill descriptions and on the forums and guides

but I dont know what it means

For example on the Mind Strike modification 'Weakness' the game says this:

Weakness - Increases the regeneration malus

I get the impression it is some sort of technical term

Could someone please explain what is the regeneration malus

and what it means to increase the regeneration malus

and why that is a good thing?

    Thanks

  10. It's just another exe from the game's engine. I browsed a lot through the Steam boards in search for stability fixes since my retail FA 2.40 didn't crash as often as the Gold edition I acquired on Steam. Some fixes help others don't, but running the game's exe files in compatibility mode when in a 64-bit system does improve things a bit. The CM-patch though is your best alternative for increased stability, though even with it I'm still experiencing random crashes in the usual places (the Jungle for instance tends to crash a lot when I mow down too many Garema).

Point is, the game will eventually CTD here and there. There's no turning around that fact. Just activate monoliths as often as you can. Sometimes I roam a bit too much without doing it and then bam...

My experience is that the digital versions from Steam or Gog are more stable than the retail version from discs with downloaded patches; even on my old machine there was a noticeable improvement - although not quite enough.

I have the gog version installed and so far it is running smooth and well. If I run into crashes etc I will try changing the compatibility; so thanks

That's a good hint about the quicksave; thanks.

  11. For some added stability be sure to turn off Physx, it breaks the game. Also if you're running a 64-bit system have s2gs.exe and sacred2.exe run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. And do install CM-Patch v.1.50 too, I've noticed the stability of the game increasing dramatically when it comes to random CTD. I still have the occasional "sacred2 client stopped working" crash but they are few and far between nowadays. If you happen to have an old GPU I'd recommend turning AA off too, it's really intensive on some older GPUs.

    Hope that helps. ;)

    That does help; thank you

    What is s2gs.exe?

I have Windows 7 64 bit and the CM-Patch v.1.50 and the game runs fine as is thus far on my i3 (3.7GHz) and GTX750ti

    I have Physx off

I had a Core2Duo (2.4 GHz) in my old system and it didn't have the cycles to run Sacred2 adequately

Pretty sure it was the CPU which was the bottleneck on my old system

I've only played a couple of hours; testing and setting things up and refreshing my memory re the menus etc

I went into Sloeford with one character where my old machine used to stutter pretty bad and all was smooth

    So looking good thus far

    :)

  12. If you play Enhanced Spells Mod, I unlocked all General Skills for all classes, as well as improving the effects of Enhanced Perception and Bargaining skills.

    Interesting mod Modimus Prime.
I Might give it a try once I've completed vanilla, which I have yet to do; in spite of several attempts
mostly due I think to performance issues
The game is poorly optimised and needs far more than the recommended requirements to run well
But I keep coming back to it
There is something about the world and the stats and the loot system etc that grabs me
and the folks at Dark Matters have always been friendly & helpful
