He says that 90 percent of all computer users really only need a fraction of the options that most desktops or classical laptops comes with, and says the need for wholly equipped kitchens is becoming unnecessary, when, in fact, all most of us need is the equivalent of a toaster ^^
You obviously don't have kids Gogo...
Offline is very useful if you're travelling & don't want to fork out for net access at your hotel/B&B/motel/etc, or if you live out in the sticks & don't have a reliable net connection (do you feel like playing Sacred 2 HC with <2 meg BB Gogo?), or maybe you enjoy modding & want to change the way a game plays.
After all, even on battlenet you can start a solo game.(At least, thats what I read on the Blizzard Forums.)
I don't think that's what Steerpike meant. In S1 & 2 you can export a character from the Closed servers to SP & try something out (such as putting a few points into a specific skill to se whether it's worth taking), can't do that in D3 now (not that you could do that in D2 either).
Llama - Of course there will be an attempt to "control" this market, and this could probably be the subject of another topic entirely... I had heard that there is the possiblity that "farmers" will be hired out to buy and sell all the best stuff in the game, or flood markets at will to control prices... yay / nay?
I guess it depends on whether you like your conspiracy theories or not mate.
But who knows if someone's in the shadows pulling the strings eh?
Yeah, maybe the Illuminati are planning to create hundreds of fake D3 accounts & flood the RMAH with duped high end gear...
While many people take issue at Blizzard charging a flat fee per RMAH auction, this is how they'd be charged by their merchant services company (assuming they've not set up their own) for all of the card transactions when people buy stuff through the RMAH. So as long as the total amount per auction that Blizzard charge isn't too far out of line with these card fees, I think it's reasonable of Blizz to do this.
In Diablo 3 (outside of HC), and in Magic (without drafting or similar), you don't have an internal balance. The 'game' is dictated by external influence. As if you could pay to use a 'Nuke hand-sign' in rock-paper-scissors (not entirely like this, because you can't buy anything in Diablo 3 which can't be gained for free) or buying a second queen in chess.
You could use that argument against any form of trading (real money, in-game gold or bartering for other items), or twinking. But I don't think that many people (excepting the "purest" ironman/hardcore players) would say that trading with other players is a "bad"/unfair thing, so why does it matter how someone pays for an item from another player?
I think that's going a bit far, there'll be as much character customisation (possibly more, to an extent) as there is in Guild Wars. GW didn't have skill points (though it did have stat/attribute points) & D3 has skill runes...
These peaceful conditions would persist until trouble emerged within the Burning Hells. After a civil war the three Prime Evils, Diablo, Mephisto and Baal, were exiled. Unfortunately Sanctuary was chosen as a place of exile. To not immediately ruin this peaceful society, archangel Tyrael made sure the three exiles were encapsulated in as many Soul Stones as possible and hidden in remote parts of Sanctuary. Obviously not the brightest of ideas. At the beginning of the series, in the first game, it’s Diablo, Lord of Terror, living in a cave beneath the town of Tristram, to be defeated. At least, temporarily.
Either that's a really bad translation of something from English into Dutch & back into English again or they've changed the backstory again. The Prime Evils were exiled to Sanctuary & then hunted down & imprisioned in 3 soul stones.
Wont be surprised if someone mods it to be playable offline as well.
Probably, but apparently Blizzard aren't going to be shipping the server code with the retail game, so in order to mod/hack it they'd have to re-engineer all of the server-side code.
Valkyr, I think that some of the problems you describe (if you will play as a warrior (blade + block + armor, etc), you need to create a magician, to boost slowly your level, and that the creatures comes in low level) was due to Oblivion's auto-levelling monsters to your level.
If you wanted to implement a scheme where CAs/etc were levelled by use, you'd have to make sure that they're all useful/effective at all levels & that they all gained XP at a comparable rate. As an example, if a particular skill were good at high levels but not particularly good at low levels then you'd have to grind through the low levels with it in order to get to the higher levels. In Sacred's current system, you could just not use that particular CA until it was at a level where it was effective.
It's looking to be a kind of baby mmo. I've been reading a lot of debates across the net regarding Blizzard's decision to only make this a permanent net game, but for me, I was actually looking forward to this mainly as a MP game.
Yeah, but what if you didn't have a nice stable net connection? Or the D3 servers get swamped & become unstable? Can't play your new game 'cause someone's running a DDOS attack against Blizzard?
Apparentlly, we'll be able to sell items ingame and actually retrieve it into real life!
Err... lol are we going to have to pay taxes on this kind of income?
What do you think Gogo? Do you think the/any government would pass up the opportunity to charge people more tax? Assuming that they find out how much you've been "earning" of course.
You're right. The blue rapid fire looks like a lot of fun, as well as the localized Area of Effect blade and dual throwing star moves.
Maybe I'll attempt both characters.
And you'll only need to make one of each class due to there being no skill points (like how GW did skills). I'm kinda surprised that Gogo & DB didn't pick up on that one...
all the little windows lined up in a neat row and the fact that every ship is sparkly clean with straight lines and such.
Personally I'd hope that a ship is like that...
I didn't like only being able to bring a certain amount of ships into combat, since I was brought up on MOO (Master of Orion) where you could put any weapons on a ship (space depending) & bring as many ships into combat as you wanted. Also in MOO there was more planetary development than in SotS1.
The GFX in SotS1 were fine, most of the time you'll be zoomed out to see more ships. Even when I did zoom in the GFX were fine, maybe not on a par with Homeworld 1/2 (when they came out), but perfectly respectable.
I didn't really notice any blockiness in those vids, so it could just be the artisitic style (which is very similar to SotS1).
I would like to see the ability to network by having the ability to input an IP to connect to a friends game.
Much like what Dungeon Siege 1 had. So people could still play online with friends, but not necessarily be on the companies game server. This would also extend the life of the game for the players when the company decides to shut down the server(s).
I still have friends that I play DS1 with on occasion that way.
In fact I played DS1 until I found out about Sacred 2. I was a little dissapointed that a game of this quality didn't have such a simple feature.
Well, it did have OpenNet, where whoever starts the game is the server, though it still does go via "their" (DS/Ascaron/etc) servers. As to why, I have no idea, I can only assume that it's related to control & preventing pirates from using it, though given that Sacred has always supported LAN, I'm not sure how accurate that is...
Seeing that Sacred is a EU developed game, better support for the North American market would be a good thing.
Why is it that the Ice and Blood expansion was never developed and released into that market?
Sacred has always had a US publisher (Encore for S1 & CDV for Sacred 2), hopefully S3 will be solely published by DS (who have a US arm) as this would simplify things & lets face it, the previous US publishers haven't done a brilliant job... As to Ice and Blood in the US, that would have been due to a lack of agreement with DS & CDV, complicated by Ascaron going bankrupt. I'm sure that if Ascaron were still a going concern when Ice and Blood were released Ice and Blood would have been published in the US by CDV.
How many more levels are there, and there is mp going on right now?
Acts 3-5 (I think, possibly 6)
Stonehenge
Abyss
2nd Attack
Dobs & I are playing MP, when the servers let us. They don't appear to have enough hardware/bandwidth since the MP servers are spazzing out a bit at the moment (massive lag, disconnects, long load times, etc)...
From Facebook posts, you pay for one ticket & get access to all of the other content (Act 3-> Abyss) & then Tokyo will require a second ticket, etc. Still no idea how much the tickets cost though.
It's now pay to play past act 2 (ie, level ~18 or so) with a cash shop & due to the bad wording on the announcement it could even possibly be a subscription for everything after act 2. Yes, everyone who bought HGL will be paying again for the second half of the game they originally bought.
I would love a return of a trading opportunity that is similar to the Bravemart scenario.
Apparantly there was something akin to that in the Sacred 2 beta, but was removed by the devs as they considered that it amde the game too easy.
They fundamentally changed the way merchants restocked their inventories in Sacred 2 Steve, so having 2 merchants next to each other wouldn't have made any difference. The only thing that really annoyed me about it in Sacred 2 was that if anyone was AFK on the MP island you couldn't use it for trading since the merchants wouldn't restock.

So, what's the difference between an AH farmer (bad) & someone who plays the game lots and sells stuff on the AH (good)?
