  1. Thank you all!

But unfortunately my pc just crashed and I don't know if it can be fixed. :/

    Thank you . :(

DOH! Hate when that happens. For what it's worth - most likely it CAN be fixed. It's more a question of "Is it worth fixing?" If it's going to cost more than the price of a new system, it may not be worth the effort. Any idea what's wrong with it?

  2. Here is my solution for both of those quests - works EVERY time!

    1. Meliondor - talk to him, he will attack you. Beat him but DO NOT talk to him again. Leave him with the "!" above his head.

    2. Holdup - save the woman QUICKLY as soon as you see Holdup appear on your screen. Once you have beaten the bandits, DO NOT talk to her. She will be safe and just stand there with a "!" above her head.

OK, now make your way to Thylysium and activate the portal, resurrection monolith or both.

Then you can make your way back to both quest givers and, after activating them, just teleport back to Thylysium. 100% succes rate, no chance of either dying and no annoying "X" in your quest book!

The same trick can be used to get the brother of the poor lass who's fiance dumped her (from the other elf outpost) who wants to kick your backside but wants to join you to comfort his sister in the big city. He gets nuts, runs off and will get himself killed if you're not careful. Easy solution - skip him until you've activated the resurrection stone in the big city - it's a short hop to the sister's house. I believe it's called "Unexpected News" or something similar.

  3. A couple of those escort quests are quite annoying yes ...

Gotta agree. Just because those stupid (or plain suicidal) individuals can't stay well behind my character and let me clear the path for them. I had really hard time keeping Mary Ann alive in "Orpheus" quest. She was running around in circles in the Orpheus' crypt, a pack of rats snapping at her heels while I was busy with zombies and other rats. It was kinda funny, actually: Mary Ann runned around in panic, and my Seraphim chased the rats following her. It's a plain miracle she didn't die while my combat arts were still regenerating, and I was able to heal her up again with Hallowed Restoration. I think I had to heal her at least four or five times...

But as annoying as those escort quests may be, I just have to accept all of them. Why? Because I am playing the game the very first time. I have to see what they are like; no matter how insignificant or ridiculous they might seem. It's a whole different thing later, when/if I have finished the game... :)

Funny thing about Mary Ann in the Orpheus quest. She's sort of like the undead. She can't be killed. The first time I ran through the quest, I damn near made a mess in my shorts with the way she'd run around being chased by zombies and rats - and watching her health drop like a rock. Tried healing her, but that was pretty much a useless endeavor.. I just concentrate on whacking the zombies, rats and various baddies. As soon as her health drops to 0, it gets replenished automatically by the game. Once you've made it to her zombie boyfriend, and accept the quest he will likewise join you in a semi-immortal kind of thing. Now then, when you go to see Orpheus, he will give you a choice.. Either kill Mary Ann and her zombie boyfriend or take Orpheus on and kill him.. If you elect to kill the pair, then they lose their "invulnerability" and die. If you whack Orpheus - they maintain their auto regeneration thing until you exit the cave and talk to the guy and the quest is finished.

  4. All good wolfie2kX. I did happen to notice a couple of employees out of place after you posted so it wasn't all for not. :D

    Oh Schot -

I'm assuming you've been modifying the map on maplib.net - right?

Did you, per chance, modify the permissions any...? I'm getting error messages when trying to view the map - something about "An error occured..." "You do not have permission to view this map.."

Something be fubar with the map. I can't seem to get from here to there.

  5. I have troubles sometimes depending on which account I start first. The servers have been screwy over the weekend anyway, had loads of CTD's when joining servers.

Maybe try the Sacred 2 temporary file cleaning utility, that might help. Found the old thread here

Might be a slight problem with getting that utility... Seems the post you linked to was to one posted by Carolyn Hacker - and her link to the file is hosted at download.ascaron.com... And correct me if I'm wrong - but that link is as dead as the proverbial door nail since Ascaron went belly up.

BUT all is not lost. A quick trip via Google and I found a copy on another web site. I'd be willing to upload it somewhere more convenient - on this site or on Sacredwiki or wherever is most convenent.

  6. Are you sure Wolfie? I could swear Micheal is inside one of the upper-most caves in that area. If I recall I think the only NPC in front of the last cave is the quest giver for the Thranak boss.

    Cheers!

Well... Yeah.. Given I just went through the area looking for him. Tore my hair (what's left of it) out looking for him inside the caves.. Finally found him just outside of the cave furthest down the path. He's disguised as an Orc and is hanging out near some barrels and a tent. I'd go back and take a screenshot of him - except I've already talked to him and sent him packing back to the office.

Mind you, I am playing v 2.43. Who knows. Maybe someone decided to relocate him just for the heck of it in Ice and Blood...

There are 3 guys in the immediate area. Neither one of them is in a cave.

I know the guy wolf is talking about. he is in between caves on the ledge I think. I remember a little dude just inside the first cave to the left. Can't remember his name or what NPC model

Ya know.. You're right. That is Michael Dumont. He's in the guise of a flaming kobold type dude.. My bad.. Too many employees to keep track of...

In the immortal words of Emily Latella....

    Never Mind...

  7. I'm wondering if there's other mechanics involved. In some other games, I've noticed that some items tend to be bloody difficult to find until you find your first - and once you've done so, the floodgates seem to open and the once rare item suddenly becomes almost as common as dirt.

For instance - in GTA San Andreas, you could look around you and see the usual crappy cars in the area, but if you swiped a really good car, and brought it into the 'hood, you'd see more and more of them pop up while you were driving it.

Just reading the thread here seems to indicate there's something similar in the underlying mechanics of Sacred2...

  8. Are you sure Wolfie? I could swear Micheal is inside one of the upper-most caves in that area. If I recall I think the only NPC in front of the last cave is the quest giver for the Thranak boss.

  9. well when I play with the 2.40 update everything runs fine, but when I install the 2.43 update sacred works for about 2 minutes then slowly gets black then takes me to the desktop and sacred is closed. what do I do? thanks :)

Question: What version of Windows do you have? If you're running Windows 7, there's a known issue or two. You might want to try running it in XP SP3 compatability mode.

  10. Keep in mind, Gogo, that 32-bit OSes can't use over 4GB, so slightly older systems like ours are more likely to have 3-4GB whereas newer systems seem to all be going w/ 64-bit Win7 which can go as high as 192GB (depending on version: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa...imits_windows_7 ). Man, if only I could think of an excuse to build a system w/ 192GB of RAM :D .

One further note about 32 bit OS's... The final total of RAM you have installed will always be less than 4 GB. Remember, devices installed on your system suck up some of the RAM space. Case in point - if you've got 4 GB of physical RAM and a 1 GB video card, you're only going to get ~ 3GB of usable physical system memory.

  11. it looks to me like your local image files might have been corrupted

you could try reinstalling the game (I do understand that means revoking your code)

maybe some of your game files as well

    good luck

    grumpy

Thanks.. I'm probably gonna need it... As it is now - when I save the game with F9 (to keep my position) and then exit the game completely, and restart it - it's all good - for a while and then it goes wonky. I think I've pinned it down to entering/exiting too many caves or teleporting either by F12 or by portal/ship. Maybe has to do with swapping out scenery or something.

And oddly enough, now that I've pretty much left the human and elf regions in the dust, the problem does NOT happen. I can teleport around, explore caves and such and NOT have the corruption.

Eh.. Oh well. I'm going to have to hold off until I get my copy of Sacred 2 Gold. Not gonna worry much about it for the time being.

  12. Re: pumping your bargaining skill: relics in Silver in Ice and Blood give +2, so +6 there. 3 socked sword (one is elemental ) and 2 shield give a chance for +4 all skills, and armour and rings and pendants allow you to pump the Bargaining skill. yellow "to all skills +X", blue "to all skills +X", blue "General Skills +X", blue "Bargaining +X" are all mods your looking for. The blue "to all skills +1" was a surprise.

Hmmm. I'm seeing something different - in Bronze. The early level relics I got were all +1.. But, when I got to level 30 relics (or so) in the desert region, many of them now have a +2. Not entirely sure, but the level may be a factor as to how much bonus you get.

  13. Thanks for the info, I'll get gold also, once I've got my new PC that is. It was going to come with a 1MB ATI Raedon 5450 and 6MB of RAM, will this be sufficient to run the game smoothly? I would hope that it would be at least as smooth as on the PS3, which is already pretty choppy at times.

That's a lot of ram. When I got my system for Sacred 2 I had only 4gigs...but more than enough to play the game on highest settings.

    :)

    gogo

Uh.. 6 MB?!?! Maybe if the PC was from say... 1992! Maybe he meant 6 GB..? I would seriously hope so.

    @ RHS408

About the only issue I can see with your new system - Sacred 2 FA can be kind of tetchy at times on Windows 7 (32 bit). It'll run, but you've gotta run it in Win XP SP3 compatability mode. I have no idea how well it will (or won't) run under Win 7 64. One hopes it's a bit better under the 64 bit version. Other than that, you should have more than enough RAM. I'm getting by quite nicely with 1/2 of what you've got. My Nvida GT220 w/1 GB VRAM based card renders everything quite nicely.

As far as installing XP on the beast... Not so sure Sacred 2 would run much better under XP or Vista than it does under Win 7. I'd keep 7 installed and just work through the rougher parts. Once you get past the Human region and get into the Orc territories, things should be smoother sailing.

  14. The teleport button is in the log book. Open the log book, go to the 4th volume (IV) and look for the Arena in the Clouds quest. Click on it. The teleport button exists on the bottom on the right hand page - but ONLY exists if you're between rounds. As soon as you've completed the quest OR have failed it, the button goes bye bye.

    Awesome info!

Has this quest already been put into Wiki? If so or if not, this info about the button being in the log book... a must have

    :)

    gogo

The quest DO seem to be quite unwritten as yet in the wiki... http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php5?title...amp;action=edit

For that matter, you can include the rest of the info as well. Sanitize as needed.

Edit: I gotta be honest. I have NO clue as to if the button exists while you're in the arena and are fighting the demons. I was kinda preoccupied with staying alive and not if the bloody button exists for the entire duration - for all I know - it probably does until you leave the arena either by victory or defeat.

Edit 2: Ok.. I went back into the game and checked the quest log - and I've got more info on it...

1.) The quest is actually a chain quest - a 3 parter. Each round in the arena counts as ONE subquest on the chain.

2.) The three subquests are called in order: "Demons", "More Demons" and "Even More Demons".

3.) The teleport button only appears on the log entries for the 1st and 2nd rounds. There is no teleport button the log for round 3. No real need since once you've completed it, you're done with the area and the seraphim returns you to your starting point.

4.) The teleport buttons, after you've completed round 3, are dead. Nailed to a perch. Extinct. Deceased. They are Ex-Buttons.* Therefore, there's no chance of teleporting back there once you've completed the quest or have failed it. Not that there's anything of interest there once you're done.

5.) I can now state with certainty that those buttons exist during the duration of the quests while you're pounding away at (or getting pounded by) the demon(s).

I have screen shots of the various log books - in case anyone's interested. Just need to know where to put 'em...

*See Monty Python: The Dead Parrot sketch.

  15. well evocator is a boss were u need to start a quest for I know were to start but I wanna have a quick walktrough ( like the undead legion chain ) so I need to lknow the first name of the quest so I can look it up.

That is easy, the quest chain is as follows:

    The ghost village

    • A long lost letter

    • Following orders

    • Forgotten valleys

My house got flooded so I haven't been able to turn on pc yet alone look here until now.

The only bosses apart from the mini bosses who need quests are already mentioned above.

I don't think I have all the mini boss quest names. Here are some of them: The Griffin, The big bad werewolf, The wild Boar, The Ice Lord, The mad ogre, Flame Lord, The harpy queen, The Earth Lord, The poison lord. I think I am missing one still.

Maybe you're forgetting the Banshee in the cave that leads to Crag Rock. The quest in question is Monster in the Cave.

  16. Thing is I can't seem to find the Teleport Button. :/

I've talked to the Serafim when there was a ! on her head and when there was a ?. Nothing happened... And even though everyone says to click on the TP, I can't find any... O.o

OK.. You don't need the teleport button under normal circumstances. If you whacked the demon, you can just rest IN the arena. After you've talked to her and she tells you to rest up, just wait a minute, cast any healing spells or pop a potion and when you're ready talk to her again. You should see a ? over her head again. Unless you somehow failed - I.e. got killed in the arena by the demon(s) - she should be willing to continue the quest. If you got killed - that's it, game (quest) over. She will resurrect you and bring you back to the starting point.

  17. From what I remember, you talk to the quest giver and she sends you to the Arena, Talk to her again for the first spawn? after killing the demon talk to her, get reward and goodies, she says to come back when your ready for the next round and she becomes a question mark again. click on her again and spawn happens. rinse repeat.

I have not done this quest on normal SP. Only on CM-Patch.

Ok.. The quest goes something like this in Sacred 2: FA.. You go to the Seraphim on the island. You talk to her, she gives you the option of going to the island and testing yourself. You Accept. Then both of you teleport to the Arena where you'll find one demon waiting for you (on Bronze). Kill it. The seraphim gets an ! above her head and tells you she's not that impressed - one demon was pretty easy. She will then tell you you can take a break, rest up and try your luck again. You click on the OK button. She gets a ? mark overhead.

In the quest book, when you've clicked on the appropriate quest, you should see a Teleport button. This will take you back to the island so you can do a dump run to a merchant. Clicking the TP button again, should bring you back to the arena.

You can then talk to the Seraphim again, and she will serve up 3 demons (on Bronze). Kill them and it's lather, rinse, repeat. On the 3rd time out, the Seraphim summons 6 demons on bronze. Whack the lot of them and you get a prize and a trip back to where the quest started.

  18. I am curious wolf, do you have your expulse magic modded yet? With the 3rd mod Protection, I get a huge boost to Block Chance:Combat Arts which will keep anything from casting on you in or out of your circle.(which I think is r00sters assumption) Otherwise the native spell banishing effects only work on enemies you cast the expulse on.(as you have observed) The undead prince's expulse can also take down your buffs I think. which is not good for a high elf. I keep expulse as an automatic mini-buff to cast freely. that is when I remember to cast it. lol

Actually... I haven't gotten to modding that one yet. Given my HE is only level 36, my points have thus far gone into boosting Grand Inivigoration, Blazing Tempest and Cobalt Strike. I've also got a few mods for the Frozen Fusilade - the ice daggers.. I can see your point - IF you've got EM modded AND you've got it active, it would go a long way to keeping enemies casting magical baddness in check. IF - as you said - you remember to cast it.

Not so as I've noticed, if the Dark Prince casts his EM unless I have very high level CAs, I won't be able to cast them either inside the EM or from outside in. Though that was "only" at lvls below ~80. Maybe at low levels he's not got the Protection mod?

Could be.. Something for further research.

  19. Hi.

This is a special case, his poison 'arrow' attack (his ca) is not considered a combat art I don't think. The servants of the harbingers of death have this exact attack too, and seems to be governed by ranged defenses.

    As for you not being able to cast vs. him, this is a simple explanation;

His expulse is stronger than your characters.

    Cheers,

I was thinking the poison arrow thing was like a throwing dagger - not so much a CA - more a weapon... I never really had the chance to use Expulse Magic myself at the time as I was too busy blasting his minions and those who were already around him to stop and swap out something else for that CA.

Either way, I think you missed the point - EM is great as long as your targets are all within the circle. However, if they're not - they can still attack you using magical attacks. All they have to do is stand just outside and wail away on you. Granted, SOME damage may be mitigated - if they're using some sort of chain lightning type attack like Cobalt Strike, it'll only hit the first target and not go further. Of course, you need to have companions in order for that to be an issue.

My inability to cast had to do with me being on the INSIDE of the circle. Nothing more. As soon as I stepped out, I was able to blast away at will again.

  20. Overall, elfs defense pretty much lies in 2 combat arts;

    Expulse and Shadow Step.

The two modded properly are a must for survival in high levels with elf.

One to make the elf the supreme kiting machine, that stuns on kiting, heals all hp each teleport, and remains invisible... its almost as good as shadow veil.

The second, to protect from attacks that wil outright kill the elf in about 1-2 hits in high levels, as well stack fear. Can just sit in the circle casting while everything runs around.

These two spells offer the best overall protecton for the elf, and are mandatory castings in higher modes.

It's interesting, elf starts out the gate as one of the fastest leveling characters, until defense becomes a necessity.

Then, having to always cast these spells to have proper protections does slow the progress considerably. What are we to do though? can't leave it defenseless...

NOTE: I am finding now with the nerf of all skills/all Combat Arts that elf may no longer be a suitable bargainer, if you wish to play it and do boss runs etc as well. If you plan to just grind xp, it's ok, but Delphic Lore might be needed to ensure combat art protection.

EDIT* Basically, with an elf I notice that some spells are actually making it through expulse, because I am unable to raise it high enough now with gear, sockets, etc.

    Cheers,

Expluse is pretty good - however, I've noticed it doesn't do much to stop spells from being cast OUTSIDE of the circle coming in and hitting you. Just ran up against the Sinister Dark Prince dude in the swamps. He seems to favor that one quite a bit. I noticed I could get outside of the circle and blast away at him with Blazing Tempest and Cobalt Strike all day long but as soon as he got too close, I couldn't fire off a BT to save my HE's bacon. I also noticed that my triple chained CS wouldn't jump to the next target if it hit something inside his Expulse Magic field.

  21. There is no chance that I will be upgrading in the near future I am afraid.

I have never done that quest online, I have this problem in SP every time.

CAs do not seem to be the problem, as just walking down into the pit is enough and since it is a necessary part of the main quest, I cannot avoid doing it. Everything is fine right up until the Orc says; "What are you doing here. This is the place where magic flows from the earth ........you do not look like a warrior ........kill 5 elementals to prove, etc". I start to walk down into the pit and the frame rate drops, the game stutters and plays more like a slideshow than a movie. At this point I have not even tried to to fight/cast/do anything except walk forward. By the time I actually reach the elementals, I could almost go make a cup of coffee between actions! The only character that has successfully completed this quest is my 'veiled' shadow warrior and it took me nearly 5 minutes to kill 5 elementals and that required casting 2 skeleton fortresses, since each skellie fort lasts 20 seconds, that 40 seconds of game time took 7 times as long in real time!

As I said, the stupid thing is that I don't suffer lag ANYWHERE ELSE in the whole game!

Bummer... What about setting the graphics display to minimal (that is, if you haven't already done so) - at least until you're done with the pit and are off to visit the old hag? I noticed before the CPU and RAM upgrade, knocking it down to bare essentials would let me get around a LOT better until I got to downtown Sloeford. For me, even that didn't help that much. Just too many people hanging around, I guess.

  22. OK.. Just so no one thinks I'm completely nuts... I've got a screenshot of the wonky map thing I was talking about originally...

Not entirely sure how to post an image from MS Live Skydrive up here - but here's the direct link. It's 424 MB...

    http://pq8xxw.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pAoM...0010.jpg?psid=1

As you can see... I've got my dryad in Griffinborough standing next to the monolith. The ghosty looking thing is her moribound animus. Note the distinct lack of map - except for the city and temple and the quest circles.

  23. ;) I added the description when I saw the post. Had me worried Podgie was going crazy on us.

Sorry to hear about your lag problems. I can't remember what hardware your running. is there any chance of upgrade in the near future?

I had a similar problem - Athlon 3400+ single core chip, 1 GB DDR 400 RAM. I upgraded the RAM to 3 GB DDR 400 RAM and most of my lag issues went away. Upgraded the CPU to an Athlon 4200+ X2 chip and the rest fell away to the wind.

Never had a problem with graphics. I upgraded my graphics card a while back to a nVidia GT 220 with 1 GB VRAM. It won't go to the ultra high end with PhysX and such, but it works ok on the default settings.
