  1. Hi Hooyaah,

I haven’t come across the Stalwart Safeguard yet but will look out for it. My Seraphim made it to level 50 last night, my Husband and I only have time to play for a couple of hours in the evening, and I am slowly getting the CAs regen time lower and lower and am hoping to take her as far as I can without having to start a new game, that way I can learn by my mistakes and not make them with the next one. I don't think I should have joined this forum as the level of knowledge in here is very overwhelming and when I don't grasp what is being said I feel stupid. I’ll stick to reading forums in the future!

You are right about my husband and me. We do everything together and when we started playing Sacred he was delighted I was enjoying it. I can’t imagine not playing it with him now.

Twitty Tister is just one example of the detail they put into these games. The bones and skulls at the back of the building were amazing. There are so many wonderful places that visiting it all again is a must in order to appreciate the work that’s gone into it.

The one thing I want to know is who designed the Werewolves? All the other creatures in Sacred are true to what they are or what we think they are like the zombies or the skeletons but the Werewolves always make me laugh. I don’t think the designer has read many books or watched many werewolf films. Where did the way they walk come from?

In an earlier post you mentioned putting spare stuff into the shared chest and starting again. How is the shared chest still around in a new game?

    Thanks Banshee.

First of all, I will apologize if I came off a bit harsh with any previous post.

Actually, it's a good thing to talk with people who have such knowledge and ask questions. It's one way of gaining knowledge. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Werewolves... Hard to say who exactly designed them. But for the most part, I found the look satisfactory - even if there are only a few repetitious models of them. Kind of find it hard to believe that every werewolf - male or female - is wearing the same clothing every other one wears. But I do realize there is a limit to how many types they can squeeze into the game and have room for everything else. Truth be told, the way they walk would be more along the lines of how I would picture a real lycanthrope to look/move. These are more wolf than human. Don't forget werewolves in most movies are real humans running around in furry makeup. More recent trends use CGI replacements for the actors so they can do pretty much anything they want.

The shared chest... It's around because it's stored in an independent file. If you look in the Saved Game directory you'll find files called "Hero021.sacred2save" and "Hero021.sacred2stats" and one file called "Chest.sacred2chest".

The Hero021.sacred2save file stores your actual character's information between games.

The Hero021.sacred2stats file stores text based statistics for the game - how much gold you've got, how far along you've got, how many of each bad guy you've killed, your character's choice in gods, your alignment to dark or light, etc...

The chest.sacred2chest file stores the shared items in the game and stores your group's achievements. These can be found in the log book on the 3rd tab on the top.

  2. I still own by 14 years old IBM keyboard with its lead filled plate and the micro switches. Like it more than any other keyboard I tried.

Trackball vs Mouse in case of my wife:

I was told it is psychological. The desk with the screen is covered with papers and information about the patient/sick person. At a 27 or 30 inch screen the mouse needs room and aiming is not easy. With a trackball she doesn't need to clean up, can use just the fingers, no silent cursing because the cursor (is it really named after cursing) is never there where it should be...

So a clean shining trackball surely wins over a dirty rat on a smelling mouse pad if you see it from the side of the patient. Showing fine finger control instead fast hand movements invoke less fear for a surgery done by these fingers, ...

Add that too long mouse using a day can do injuries and pain-

I'm not entirely sure it's psychological. Liking one particular keyboard over another is probably familiarity - you're used to the one you've got. My KB is 9 - 10 years old and I am not too thrilled with using others myself. I'm a touch typist. I almost have to be - the letters on this KB have pretty much all worn away on the letters and I would have a VERY hard time hunting and pecking manually.

But I'm used to this thing. I like some of the features - the macro buttons on top that launch stuff, the feel, the throw of the keys.. etc... I don't really care for the chicklet keys they've got on some new models and I really HATE those "ergonomic" boards. Mainly because I can't find the keys without looking. That just slows me down too much. I can maybe do 50 words per minute - or more on a normal keyboard. I'll be lucky to do 15 on one of those.

That said, if I had a few months to get used to one of those ergonomic keyboards, I would likely get used to it enough to improve on that..

Those old IBM keyboards, tho, are great. Pity you can't find too many of those old style ones any longer. Hang onto it as long as you can.

Oh.. And we've got something like what you've got in Germany - it's called a Tax Deduction.

I got the Logitech G600 Gaming mouse because the one on my iMac was starting to act up. It fits my hand nicely, has a nice positive click, and all the buttons are even programmable. The only problem is that, once programmed, none of the programmed buttons work inside games!

I haven't tried it on my Windows machine yet. I'm sure it will work great there but I need it to work on my iMac. :(

Going to the site now to see if there is a software update that might help.

    [Added]

Just updated to thelatest software and it seems they've "fixed" it. The keyboard macros, to record multiple keystrokes for a single button, are no longer available for the Mac. Haven't tested it on the Windows PC yet ...

DOH! Good thing it's not an Apple mouse - they might claim the reduced functionality was an "improvement"...

  3. Rodent update time...

I've had a bit of time to play with it and some things I really do like - the fit in my hand is pretty good. It's quick and accurate and goes right to where I want it to go. And it can't be said that you can't find this mouse in the dark unless the mouse is in the lowest possible DPI mode... Here's a composite pic of the mouse - in a dark room.

    post-14586-0-28063000-1379906938_thumb.jpg

And of course, there's a few things I'm not too thrilled about. Like the profile/macro system. The multicolored LED thing is only configured for the default profile and yes, you can change the colors for other profiles, BUT, I have yet to figure out how to change the colors for those other profiles when it comes to changing the DPI like in the default.

The macros themselves are a bit of a challenge to figure out as well. You can't, it seems have it launch a specific app - which means configuring the magnifier to a specific button is not an option. But I did manage to figure out a way around that - by pinning the magnifier to the taskbar. It's now just a quick flick of the wrist to the bottom of the screen to launch it or kill it.

My only other gripe about it is that you can't disable any of the buttons in the default profile. Sometimes I find myself clicking one on the right side by accident and if I'm on a page, it wants to make the page to the previous page. It's kind of annoying - especially if I am trying to preview a post I just wrote and it just wiped out everything.. So I gotta be careful with those buttons.

  4. The idea behind a pyro high elf - you turn the enemies into crispy critters before they can do anything bad to you... In conjunction to that philosophy, there's the Incandescent Skin buff. Modded correctly, that should offer you enough protection to get through most fights. Blazing Tempest needs to be spammable. Few enemies can withstand that kind of punishment for very long - even those with fire proof undies.. :D

There should be a number of posts in this forum section that have good Pyro elf builds... Also, check out Locolagarto's posts about his Piromante build.

  5. Why blame me? If the song didn't properly ROCK, you would have said "meh" and moved on with your life. If you must blame someone/something blame the Williams clan - Jeff for writing and Casey for singing. And of course, Monty Oum's gotta shoulder some of the blame for coming up with the series.

But I'll take an order of pulled pork and gravy.. In a heartbeat... At least until I had a coronary.. LOL..

  6. Welcome to DarkMatters...!

What irony... The last two characters I've played in Sacred 1 were - the Daemon and Dwarf. If I had to choose - I'd go with the Dwarf as he's got some fairly amusing lines - "Smoke me a goblin, I'll be back in time for breakfast."

I also see you're a fan of Vista. I used to be as well, but, these days I like Windows 7 better. I find 7 to have pretty much everything Vista has to offer - and is much snappier in getting things done.

    Feel better soon!

  7. The problem with horses is that they limit your combat arts. Many of them will not work while on horseback.

I seriously doubt horses can be rewritten with much in the way of success in a way it would work properly in the game.

As far as future versions of the patch go - it's hard to say. There has been a resurgence of interest in the game since Amazon and Steam have gotten Sacred 2 Gold... On the other hand, Marcus and Czevak do have lives and have stuff to do and work on the patch part time - whenever they have free time.

So.. Only time will tell. That and if someone comes up with an issue that's serious enough - AND one that they can do something about. There are plenty of things they can't do anything about as they have no access to the part of the game code.

  8. I really haven't got much of a clue actually. It's hard to say as most of the dwellers of Bengaresh appear to have headgear that makes inspecting their ears difficult...

That said.. My story - Sophia's Choice - has that territory owned by Elves. Given Elven tendencies, it is entirely probable they had humans working there as slaves. During the era of the story, the Bengaresh region is a huge agricultural paradise instead of the desert it is in Sacred 2. It has been called (during Sophia's Choice) the "Breadbasket of Ancaria"... So it's entirely possible that the people living in "modern" Bengaresh (Sacred 2 era) are both of Human and Elf descent - possibly even hybrids.

It's entirely possible that the Sand People aren't either. Mutations after the cataclysm that engulfed the region and turned the lush fields into desert. In fact, this cataclysm will also have an effect on the lizardmen's region as well.

  9. During the TG chain quest “Verification” you do have to interact with 3 consoles/terminals where they act differently - they fix TG software memory issues and give out historical logs of the great dragon war chemical weapons development program. Evidently they don’t provide all the information, like the new location of the great machine, but function as complicated computers.

Other than that, it’s just a repeating “Don’t push that button” joke described earlier. So dont push that button. ;)

There's also another quest in Artamark just south of the Royal Honkytonk where a group of people got ambushed and their women got captured. You have to pull a crystal out of the console to save the brainwashed women...

Umm I have probably clicked on every single console in game :)

I just said I haven't seen the consoles do anything other than a little ground shaking

Ok.. Well.. that's about all they generally do.. They would appear to be monitoring stations for the T-Energy collectors scattered around Ancaria. And like modern computers, they can do more than one thing...

  10.

3.) The tools the original developers used to develop the game - many of them no longer exist.

What happened to them? Why? How? I know its now impossible to find an editor to the Sacred:Underworld GRN graphics format, without permanently converting it into GR2. But to loose tools to a big game from 2008-09?

It's rather simple. Ascaron went bankrupt and out of business. They likely overextended their finances and spent more on developing Sacred 2 than they ever made back from sales at the time.

Deep Silver bought SOME of Ascaron's assets - they bought the Sacred game franchise but apparently the deal they struck did NOT apparently include the servers and other computers used to produce and maintain the code. This is why Ice and Blood never got more than a few minor fixes in the 2.65.1 and 2.65.2 releases. What happened to the hardware and related software - I have no idea.

I would imagine the tools used to make the game went with the programmers who wrote the tools in the first place. It's my understanding that Deep Silver hired a couple of Ascaron's programmers and they muddled together the last 2 patches for the game. But what they could do was limited in so far as they didn't have full access to everything needed to do things right.

  11. 1.) Nor do most of the skills in the General category. In fact, the only General skills I can think of offhand that does unlock item modifiers is Enhanced Perception which can unlock the Chance to Find Valuables modifier on some items and Riding - which unlocks stuff on Horses - which, FWIW, are pretty much useless in Sacred 2.

The real question is why anyone would want Divine Devotion to unlock anything. For that matter, what COULD it unlock? There are no related skills as there are with the ones mentioned above. As a skill it's generally regarded as being a wasted skill. Not quite as bad as Pacifism - but almost.

2.) If you have evidence (screen shots) that there are issues - please report them on the Mantis site found in the first post on this thread.

3.) None that I've seen on the current roadmap.

  12. Mer kil -

That aspect of the game is never truly explained...

But given what happens when you DO click on a console, the ground shakes - I would venture that whatever the effect is, it's not a good thing.

We can surmise given what little information is known about the Great Machine - those consoles are there likely to monitor the flow of T-Energy that's being collected and fed to the Great Machine itself. Playing with the controls, I'm going to guess, somehow stops the flow of T-Energy and it may cause it to stop and get backed up somehow.. Or some such.

And Knuckles - you might want to give it a try. Nothing really bad happens. Any T-Energy console that is NOT located in Thylysium will do. The first one - and easiest to get to is located under the Celestial Dome - where you get the data for the professor in the 2nd of his quests.

  13. I love the character creation of Sacred 2. But I HATE the map. It's sooooo frustrating because this is halfway to being a great game. The original map was boring the first time, with it's meandering around obstacles while killing hundreds of weak useless enemies. Now, I'm on my 9th character and I'm bored out of my mind playing the same old running back and forth through near empty winding map quests over and over and over again.

A randomized map like Diablo 2 would be great.

Yeah... Well.. That's never going to happen.

1.) The developers are no longer in business...

2.) and those who have taken over for them have NO intention on continuing development of the game.

3.) The tools the original developers used to develop the game - many of them no longer exist.

I've never heard of anything over level 200 in Sacred or Sacred 2.

That said... Consider the source. A web site called "Games Are Evil"... Seriously? There are some who are willing to go above and beyond the realm of reason to make something seem FAR worse than it actually is - and given their bent, I doubt the people responsible for said "evidence" would be truly informed on the actual workings of the games they preach against. It could be a clever photoshopped pic.

You can also add in the fact that the number do not make much in the way of sense. You've got characters that are level 500+ with fewer kills than those who have a level that's half of that.

And what are "killpoints" vs "points"? In the game, it's called XP...

  14. Ok so with a character editor I found, I started a game at level 1 on Niobium just for fun, and here is what happened:

The first enemies I ran into were level 111. I couldn't kill one for the life of me; I was taking about 2,000+ damage. I even created new characters to try every God Spell. The Ker God spell was doing 0 damage to the snapping turtle. The best God spell I found was Forens, because when it reflects damage it gives you a chance to get 1 hit in with the lifeleech skill of Dragon Berserk. (Keep in mind I only had 3 skills: Energy Blaze, Dragon Berserk, and Familiar). But it's only 50% chance reflect so you still die.

I then tried recruiting Private Rinmar from the pirate quest. I thought if he killed an enemy I could get experience for it. I managed to aggro a wolf and I let him kill it: no experience.

One time I got a ranged weapon out of the starter chest. Then I managed to get an enemy just out of aggro range and attacked him. The problem is I missed every single time. 0 Damage.

Then I tried to do a quest that didn't involve killing anything, to see how much experience reward I would get. So I did the "pick up 3 talismans" quest and I only got 150 experience for it.

Has anyone else tried this challenge with any class? I'm curious how much experience I would get for the first kill, and how many levels I would gain off of it.

    AC

Truth be told, there's an option in one of the text files that dictates the minimum level for entering each difficulty. You can simply change the numbers to 1 and you would wind up having the same general effect. A level 1 character in Niobium...

But as you found out already there IS method to the madness of why they set minimum levels in each difficulty range.

Truth be told, I haven't tried this particular setup, but I somehow doubt you could ever kill anything unless you maybe turned off ALL damage being dealt by the enemies you face. It'd be like trying to stab a guy in a suit of chain mail armor with a butter knife - you're just not going to do much damage.

  15. Welp... I'm necroposting here because my MS Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 started flaking out on me and I felt it was time for a replacement.

I looked around to see what was available - and I could have found another 3000 but I felt adventurous..

So while perusing the weekly Fried ad (Fry's Electronics) page, I saw a sale item for a Cooler Master Storm Recon rodent. Only $20 USD. So I did a bit of research - and the reviews were fairly glowing. So I've taken the dive and gotten myself one.

On the plus side, this mouse has a few extra buttons - all of which are programmable. On the sucky side, it isn't the MS COM 3000. Meaning the side button no longer does the Magnifier feature found in Windows 7.

    post-14586-0-94715600-1379689042_thumb.jpg

Aside from the looks that sort of reminds me of a recent vintage Batmobile, this is a gaming mouse that has a nifty trick - you can change the DPI settings on the fly by pressing the buttons directly behind the scroll wheel. This also changes the glow in the dark feature of the mouse from Red, to Green to Blue to Off, depending on the setting you choose - as seen here...

    post-14586-0-12189800-1379689240_thumb.jpg

These colors can be changed as well using the Recon utility which strangely enough, is NOT included on a CD in the box. You have to grab it from Cooler Master's web page - which oddly enough does NOT feature this budget mouse on any of their pages. You have to search for it in order to find it.

I'll post more later when I've had a chance to check things out a bit more.

  16. Oh.. and one more thing... Found this on YouTube...

Very interesting lyrics - stuff that was only partly explored during the trailer version of Ruby's theme...

Gotta say - This Jeff Williams guy they got writing the score AND Casey Williams (assuming relation) are musical geniuses... There are so many variations on the Red Like Roses theme now, it's hard to keep track of them.

  17. Banshee, there is an article on how to make your character god-like at Saced Wiki. However, once you have selected a skill, it's too late to turn back, unless, of course you are good friends with Dr. Who. I bulit a near-immortal Seraphim who has never had any resurrections, or close calls, and is at level 134/Platinum. I focused on defensive skills in order to make her more or less invulnerable. I will list the skills below which I used for her and that I recommend for you. Employing the following list, and using a good shield, armour which has max sockets for amulets first, then rings, and last runes, donning her too with armor with high physical and magic, fire, poison, and ice damage protedtion, you won't have to concern yourself with running out of health potions. The best chest armor for your lady is Holy Protection.

    WARDING ENERGY LORE

ENHANCED PERCEPTION (needed to aquire BARGAINING)

    CONCENTRATION

    ARMOUR LORE

    SHEILD LORE

    BARGAINING

    REVERED TECHNOLOGY LORE

    REVERED TECHNOLOGY FOCUS

    TOUGHNESS

    CONSTITUTION

By the time that you reach level 75 you should have WARDING ENERGY mastered. Arguably focusing on one's defensive skills first is best to avoid those nasty resurrections. Your mount should support Revered Technogy for better regen. It's better in my opinion to start over at Silver and get a build which will carry you all the way to the end of the Niobium level than to discover at some point that your toon is too difficult to manage. You may place all of your goodies in the shared chest to pass down to your new build and you may level up fairly quickly when starting in the Silver level. I hope that this helps.

While it's true that EP (or one of the other level 1 General skills) is needed to get to Bargaining, EP is also good on it's own - it increases you chances of finding better goodies in crates and bins and such as well as increases the odds of getting set items, uniques and legendaries and other desirable goodies from quest givers.

  18. I'm sure the abruptness of Weiss' change likely had to do with the need to move the story along quickly. Keeping that sort of animosity might have had it's amusement value but that kind of friction does get old.

Yah.. I gotta love ol' Oz.. I still have a feeling there's more to that comment than meets the eye - so far, anyhow. Just the way the story has been moving so far - Monty doesn't seem to have his characters saying stuff that isn't necessary. Can't really do that given the length of most of the episodes thus far.

Also like the professor what's his name - Pulled Pork... The big guy who talked to Weiss...

  19. It's Thursday... And you guessed it.. it's RWBY day!

    http://roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=8109

Grr.. And at the stroke of 5pm... roosterteeth.com is seriously lagging.. Probably as the legion of fans are clustering to be the first on their block to watch the just released episode.. They really, really need bigger pipes..!

Good to see Weiss and Ruby actually get along for real at the end, especially after Weiss got knocked down a peg. :P

FINALLY got to see the episode at like 9:30 PM...

I dunno bout Weiss.. Is it just me, or did that seem to be a weee bit too easy?

I mean, I've known a few people like Weiss in my day and I'm here to tell you, a leopard doesn't change his spots. Certainly not that easily, and certainly not that quickly.

Also gotta wonder where Weiss got that coffee so quickly. And so late at night.

As a side note... Ospin's admission of making "more mistakes than any man woman or child" caught my attention.. Wondering exactly why he would say something like that. Getting the feeling there's more to it than just something to placate Ruby.

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough...

    MORE Animation mistakes...

At the very end, after Weiss gives Ruby her coffee, and goes off - presumably to the head - Ruby has a mug full of coffee in hand and there's a second empty mug on the bed. During the last few seconds, as Ruby turns back onto her stomach, both the full mug and the empty mug vanish into thin air to be replaced by a pen in Ruby's hand.

  20.

Yeah, that's what I though but when I write it comes out at the top. I'll see how this comes out.

Oh dear, I've even got carrying a response into my new post wrong. Can anyone please look at my last post and tell me how to quote the person I want to answer instead of making such a mess?

This time I will say thank you.

You should be able to just hit the quote button, and then add your text at the very bottom.

Um.. You could use the arrow keys to move the cursor down. Or you can use the scroll wheel on your mouse to get to the bottom and simply click. This moves the cursor to the bottom...
