  1. If you look up Xanthiar on the wiki, you'll see he's weak against ICE damage.

    So.. I'd recommend:

1.) stocking up on plenty of health pots

2.) socketing ice dmg into your weapons

NOTE: Once he's beaten you and killed you off.. It'll be pretty much impossible to kill him.

Why? Because you've lost your entire Survival Bonus. I learned this the hard way with my first ever character.

At this point going back and trying again is kind of futile - best to go back and grind a bit to build up your survival bonus a bit before trying again.

  2. FWIW... I dunno how you can make a project like that LESS terrible than what it already seems to be.

Secondly, German isn't that hard to learn. The basics are pretty much the same as English - with a few variations.

Ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist = I am, you are, he/she/it is

Der Hund und die Katze = the dog and the cat...

Ich bin ein Berliner = I am a cream puff. What? you thought it meant something else? Actually, JFK got it wrong. A Berliner is a type of pastry, not that you're from Berlin. A more appropriate translation would be "Ich bin von Berlin" - I am from Berlin.

OK... OK..So I'm oversimplifying the task... BIG time..

Needless to say, I'm not so sure how you could contribute much to a project that is, by now, already etched in stone - as far as the concept and general layout goes.

At least, you'd think by this point in time, it would already be already well past the point of hashing out concepts and ideas and well on the road to being completed.

  3. Well.. If you think about it, what else can they be?

    Consider the following:

1.) Ascaron went belly up years ago and the employees took the programming tools and what not with them, leaving Deep Silver unable to do much with the actual game code. Hence, there are only two official patches, both minor, for Ice and Blood from Deep Silver.

2.) The official release of the game onto Steam includes a note recommending the CM Patch to players.

Ergo, the patches for the Steam version - which is nothing more than a repackaged version of the game - must be the same patches for the "regular" version.

  4. S3 will not be released in 2013, of course :)

    http://forum.deepsilver.com/forum/showthread.php/68438-Sacred-3-end-of-year-update

The big question here, why not?, is a little more complicated I guess. Since there is absolutely nothing of news since the first previews, there is nothing we can do but speculating. Which, to be honest, leads us nowhere right now ...

Yes.. And they (DS) have only themselves to blame. So, yes, we will engage in much mental mast.urbation just for the sake of doing it since we don't have anything better to do.. And we will do a spectacular job of coming up with all manner of wild scenarios. For this IS what we do.. :tease:

Huh. Keen Games are looking for programmers for Sacred 3. Anybody want to try and join their team?

    http://www.keengames.com/keen-games/careers/open-positions/

Why? Unless you got the right kind of mad programming skillz, they'll likely shuffle your resume/CV off to the rectangular file.

Sacred 3 will NOT be released this year. Posted in the SIF.

Gee.. Not a surprise. They already missed the golden window for that. For them to have made it, it would have had to have been released in Sept or Oct... That the buzz will be out there, the game will be on store shelves, ready for people to buy it in time for Christmas.

 You guys do know that that post was made yesterday?

And that right now it’s the middle of December, as in “last month of the year”?

And the development team at Keen Games, who are now in charge of developing Sacred 3, is at least 3 developers short on the project?

Huh. Keen Games are looking for programmers for Sacred 3. Anybody want to try and join their team?

    http://www.keengames.com/keen-games/careers/open-positions/

Seriously, nobody is even going to try and send in their resume/CV to these guys? Dream job, right here... :bump:

Btw... Keen's had that ad up since just before it was announced that they would be spearheading the project for DS.

The truly disturbing thing about this - they STILL have the ad posted. You'd think after all this time, they would have a FULL team cranking out code like a well oiled machine.

There are a couple of reasons why this ad is still posted.

1.) They're losing people left and right and can't hang onto anyone.

2.) Their web guy is a total putz and/or is a lazy slacker who can't be bothered to remove the ad from the web page.

3.) They can't find anyone willing to work on this project. Given the vast amount of negativity, it wouldn't be super surprising. Would YOU personally want to put your name on a project that people will hate?

  5. Make that 3 groups..

The 3rd being those who feel the utter silence this past year means that Sacred 3 has been binned and put on indeterminate hold and no release is coming anytime soon.

But seriously, Thorin... Can you BLAME Dork Sliver for using the word Sacred in their email...? It got you to open it instead of tossing it. Didn't it?

And I'm sure you're not alone in that respect. I'd say it almost guaranteed that anyone getting that email would open it - at least among the Sacred faithful.

  6. Ack.. Sounds like you're gonna be busy for the time being!

Cast Iron... To a degree, yes, I am a fan of it. But it does require proper seasoning in order to make it work right. It can be a bit of extra work.

The only other issue I have is that my non-cast iron pots and pans have a stay cool handle and I don't normally need a pot holder to manipulate them.

Cast iron pans - not so much.

  7. There are some great 3rd games in the series that made big changes and were better for it.

“GTA 3” was a historic 3d urban sandbox.

“Thief 3” removed loosing your gear after every mission and let you climb walls.

“Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind” became a full living 3D world of RPG.

Point being, that in each of these games the developers WANTED to make a special new creation and paid respect to the worlds lore established before it. Money based on the name was never the primary goal of the project.

So for now having no Sacred 3 is better than what they were trying to pull on us. We can wait for a dedicated team of people who will honor the legacy of the game, no patent-farm the name for money. I can wait forever for “Sacred 3” and “Dungeon Keeper 3” (my other favorite series) if they are done right.

Meh.. GTA3 was OK.. Tho Vice City was better and San Andreas was even better. San An was probably my favorite game until Sacred and Sacred 2 came along.

  8. Well.. you gotta understand something about the differences between Diablo 3 and Sacred 2..

Diablo is produced by Blizzard - a huge mega game company with lots of successful titles under it's corporate belt. As such, Blizzard has bazillions of dollars to spend on advertising, promotion, marketing, etc...

Sacred 2 was produced by Ascaron who produced a few games - but wound up going bankrupt. It had little, if any budget for ads, promotion, etc...

Blizzard is it's own distribution house.

Ascaron needed help in that department and CDV (in the US) and Deep Silver (everywhere else) were chosen (BIG mistake) to represent them. As such, when Ascaron went belly up, CDV didn't get to distribute the Ice and Blood expansion while Deep Silver did. Of course, Deep Silver bought out the franchise. The problem is, the US market didn't get the expansion and as such, unless you were a hard core fan of the game, you had to suffer with the basic game. If you were hard core, you would have shelled out another $40 US for the UK/International version from places like DL Gamer.

Console players were also unable to get the Ice and Blood expansion - due to the collapse of Ascaron.

Sacred 2 also suffered from other minor issues - like buggy game play in the early versions. Even the Ice and Blood expansions were plagued with bugs. Most of the big whoppers were dealt with - by the tireless work of the CM Patch team.

  9. Nope, no files have been tweaked. I have noticed one other thing. When I first downloaded the CM patch, the animations for scythes were off, but now my SW swings his scythe in a realistic fashion. I'm sure I didn't tweak anything there, either, bc I don't know what files I'd even play with to tweak animations

Hmm. The only effect I know of on NPCs in the CM Patch is that they behave better.. They follow you around instead of running ahead of you and doing their best to get killed. This applies to Mailyn as well as the other nearby NPC who wants you to take her to Orpheus' lair.

  10. Personally I woulldn't mind if there's not a Sacred 3. I wouldn't feel disappointed or let down. We have two excellent entries in the franchise that provide YEARS of gameplay each. The team that made them, they're gone and scattered around as far as I know. I'd rather maintain the good feeling that the legacy of Sacred 1 and 2 give than have a bad taste put it my mouth by a lackluster third entry by a different team.

Part 3 seems like the cursed entry for RPG's anyway.

    • Dungeon Siege 3 (disgrace to the name)
    • Gothic 3 (bad reputation for being buggy, although I thought Gothic 4 was worse overall)
    • Diablo 3 (maybe I'm just getting old but always online DRM and auction house killed it for me before I finished the demo)
    • Mass Effect 3 (an ending that shat upon the entire story line)
    • There never was a Baldur's Gate 3, despite years of "almosts" and pining from fans.

Maybe The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age 3 will break the spell.

    The number 3 isn't always a curse..

Lest we forget - Duke Nukem 3D was probably the best of the series... The ending on that one was quite amusing, if a big nasty.

Of course, the 4th installment took like 3 centuries (or so it seems) to get done..

  11. There are lots of options out there for self- publishing.

I was just going through old emails -- a friend of mine self published a novel through Smashwords about 6 months ago and liked how it worked. I've never published anything so I can't really make any recommendations myself.

Yes... I looked into some.. Most require that I put forth a big pile of money in order to get the books printed. Which I suppose isn't so bad - except funds are kind of tight at the moment.... But I'll look into the link you provided and see what all your friend did..

Oh I just thought of something, seeing how seraphim "wings" looks like I think they were made with a purpose, maybe interstelar traveling while using the wings to adapt themselves to the hybernation chamber, tho I wouldn't see how practical would that be. Its just a thought you might add in your story under some circumstances.

Well.. The ones in the game would seem to be a bit.. clumsy if you ask me. they're fixed, they don't flap, they can't fold, they're well.. more in the way than anything. Which raises other questions. Like what purpose they really serve... Which brings us to...

As far as interstellar travel.. Meh.. not so much. Wings are good for a bird flying thru the air... but there's no air in space. If anything, the wings in Sacred appear to be more like antennae.. Remember, they can contact those orbiting satellites to summon BeeEffGees and the like. Thinking those are more what they're for than anything else...

True.. tho it's kinda hard to put up that kind of thing here on a chapter by chapter basis. Debating my publishing options. Yes, putting it up here is cool and everything, but it's been a lot of work and wouldn't actually hurt to get something out if it.

Wolfie, I can't think of many more ways to keep Sacred alive than with what you're doing.

We've change the Sacred 2 Fan Art section to Sacred 2 Fan Art and Fiction

There's a book a literary creation that a member put up a few years ago along with some painted art as a contribution:

    This book is Sacred

I'll also change the Sacred titles in a few minutes.

There will always be home for your work on your Wiki

    :gogo:

    gogo

Well.. SOMEONE'S gotta keep the faith alive until Deep Silver gets their act together and puts a proper Sacred 3 on the market!

The story is kind of amusing.. Not very Seraphim-like though. :4rofl: Never known a Seraphim to be quite so selfish or into jewels and the like.

I think this is how male seraphim should look like :)). http://www.deviantart.com/art/Seraphim-208964064

And gogo it should be Fan Art and Friction .:drool:

Oh and I dont see Sophia Choice in there... is it in another category ?

Its only on DarkMatters.. for now.. :)

As for the male Seraphim.. Hmm.. Great art...

    BUT...

The guy in the picture won't quite work. At least, not what I had in mind. The guy needs to look MUCH more demonic.. Remember, he would have to be more of the embodiment of evil in order to make a Seraphim be so disgusted. Except for the lack of er.. cleavage, that one could almost pass for a female Seraphim...

  13. Wow.. Never quite seen that. Sounds more like Wonder Woman.. :)

Have you been tweaking any of the game files? That'd be my guess - you may have changed something you probably shouldn't have.

    Does she take any damage?

  14. Novel size? It's over 317 pages now, single spaced. 12 point Carolinga (The font from Sacred 2) font. In Arial, it's 322 pages long. 129,395 words... And this doesn't include things like table of contents, the 5 diaries and other stuff.

And I'm nowhere near being done.

I kinda wonder if this isn't going to turn into another Battlefield: Earth (1000 pages in paperback)

  15. It's a quote by Benjamin Franklin that kind of got distorted over the years. The actual quote (from a letter he wrote) was :

"Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards, there it enters the roots of the vines, to be changed into wine, a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy."

It's a widely misquoted line, very popular:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=beer+is+proof&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=iHOeUrz4L6fd2AWx5oFI&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=2144&bih=1178&dpr=0.9

Yeah.. But gotta remember, the guys from Ascaron were GERMAN.. And Germany isn't really that well known for wine.. Not like France or Spain...

But they ARE quite reknown for beer. So it makes sense they would make that alteration as such.

  16. FWIW... I thought the story line in Sacred 1 to be rather quite good actually... Lots of plot twists and the like.

Kinda tore me up the first time I had Wilbur die on me. Not so much that I lost him, but that he was actually dead dead.. Was like losing a friend for me.

But I soldiered on and finished the game. The ending video was quite spectacular..

Compared to what was in Sacred 2, the story line in Sacred 1 was quite epic.

In Sacred 1, there's Shaddar and he's evil and you KNOW he's evil. In Sacred 2, there's no real connection with the opposite side exactly. You don't interact with the shadow forces until near the end. You see elements of what the dark side has done, like the poisoned well in Sloptok. and on the dark side, you have the task of poisoning the well. But you never cross paths until the end.

As it is, you're kind of running around in the dark - without having much of a clue as to what is actually going on.
