Hey I just wanted to start a thread to say CONGRATS! to cyclops on breaking the million point barrier
Way to go man great achievement keep on pushing lets see if I can beat you to the 2 mil mark heh
-
yep gogo is on the money also I guess maybe not at this point in your game but later getting at least 1 rip will save you millions and millions of deut as the base speed of a dstar is so tiny that the consumption becomes negligable particualry if you fleetsave to your own debris field

This topic interests me cause networking and security are what I'm studying at uni My advice to katran is to use zonealarm or another free reliable one is tiny personal firewall. Both provide excellent protection on a per system level. People that use nat/pat routers have by default a built in firewall, and so dont "have" to run personal firewalls... Basically a router takes one public ip address and shares it with many private addresses within the home lan. When a computer in the lan requests some information from an external site the router takes note of the machine requesting the data and where its request is going to. the router then waits for a return packet from the "noted" destination to route back to the requesting computer... so what this meen is that unsolicted packets of data ie 99% of all forms of internet attack are unsolicted packets attemting to gain access to exposed ports, cant get in. when a packet hits a router the router looks in its routing table to see who requested that packet when there is no entry in the routing table the packet gets dropped and never makes it inside the network. Thus routers are very cool But this doesnt meen you shouldnt use a personal firewall... Nowadays our computers are more often infected by trojan style adware and spyware, typically this happens when you download and install trial/shareware etc or almost definately in "freeware". These programs typically use system resources collect various forms of information and attempt to transmit that information back to base so to speak... This is where personal firewalls become essential. Programs like zonelalarm etc while being somewhat noisy and annoying are also invaluable in showing you a trojan horse program dialing back home. when the programs attempt to communicate you are prompted asking if its ok for the program to send data out. I cant tell you how many times I have installed something then had zonealarm jump up and let me know I just made a mistake...
So yeah long post short I reccomend that everyone use a personal firewall even when behind nat/pat routers and especially if using wireless

As far as the points thingy goes I have to agree with bef. Points dont land till units have completed... I tested this a loooong time ago by doing nothing for 2 updates and watching my points score stay static, then 20 mins before the 3rd update I put 50 bships in the queue with only one completing prior to the update (49 still building at update) my score then increased by 60 points inline with 1 bship. That was a long time ago 8 + months and maybe things have changed... also it is my understanding, though I havent tested it, that deut never counts to score... no matter if it is spent on research, travelling costs a ship or a defence... so those that dont raid can seriously increase their growth by having large deut mines and trading from early on for crys and met to invest in economic upgrades

Gratz dude!! you make Spawn a very proud clan indeed gimme a month and I'll try an join you in the high rollers club I look forward to the day whn spawn and dark have an average points per member of 1 mil +++ Uni 9 has sure matured and for those of us who have ben here from the beginning the massive economic benefits are starting to really show go Spawn Go dark go anyone with the steadfast resolve to continue on in uni 9 till uni 9 is no more... or at least till star is no more heh.

Hey everyone I know I dont post very often but I just wanted to come in and say WOOT WOOT finally got my second building!! It will be interesting now to see how much difference it makes to my economy as I intend at this busy stage of my life to be a Miner/Honest business man... trying his hardest to make it in this oh so dirty world... /rofl
-
those are some great tips claire thanks heaps for sharing
Can I ask though... you and Aurora have been playing this on server 1 for a while now if in that server you have unlocked any other building researches etc could you please share... I would love to know better what is coming up...
Heres my tip folks I was wondering for a while, why of why my points were not going up then I realised that you get bugger all points for buildings that create resources... you do however get MUCHO GRANDO points for research's etc... you can click on the building/research names and it shows you how many points they are worth.
thats all for me folks.

Ok this is mainly for those in Dark that want to join in on the fun... Apologies for the length of the post its just they have so many damn members... I have organised it by galaxy location so everyone can see who is close to them etc. If anyone wants a concise list of a particular player or wants it presented in that way let me know B)

Well the time has come for this game to go up a notch in the excitement levels. Recently one of our members Grim Reaper has been inundated by incoming IPM's. The person responsible is a girl by the name of Xual. Xual runs the TLA alliance and is a frequent poster in the Hofs section of the ogame forums.
I sent her a msg asking quite politely (I thought) to refrain from further defense bashing of grim and alluding that if she was not willing to stop me and Aroura would move in to her neighborhood to "encourage" her... then a few msgs went back and forth (unfortunately I didn't record them all) but I did keep this one which I found to be somewhat cocky and challenging, well actually somewhat insulting.
the Msg
03-05 16:30:30 Xual [2:271:7] Re:No subject Refrain from attacking TLAs and I will do the same.
Plus, tell Grim to stop probing (ie provoking me)
And yes, do get your fleet AND aurora's here. Get as many fleets as you can gather and come fill up my neighbourhood.
Cyclops may have a chance btw, but not you and not Aurora
I allready mentioned the incidents to TLA. I was pleasantly surpised by their reactions ))
Like I said: Refrain from attacking my people and I will stay away from yours.
kind regards,
Xual
there were a few other msgs of similar meaning but yeah you get the idea...
Now that kind of msg translates to me as bring it ON!! So we WILL, us in spawn have spoken and decided that we are going to go to war with TLA. We have decided not to let them know our intentions, our plan is to all build fleet constantly for 2 weeks then me and Aroura and a couple of others will send colony ships to her system with her fleet and declare war while the colony ships are deploying with the intent of having our fleets there ready to go as soon as the 12 hours pass's and war begins B)
I anticipate this really changing the game for all of us in spawn in a really positive way! As our allies of course you are all invited to join in on the fun for any of you that are interested in helping one way or another please let us know and we will provide any intel etc required
What I think Xual has failed to realize is that Spawn is an alliance of powerful miners. We don’t have fleet cause we chose not too, now she will see what happens when the miners turn on their war factories and beat the drums of war... Our top 10 players are all capable of producing around 25-75 bships each per day just from our mines...When the war begins she will realize with dismay that she truly underestimated us and our resolve.
Their days are numbered...prepare people to see a wave of hoffage as yet unseen in this universe.

I am truly intrigued by the afore mentioned tool... When I first learnt of ogame one of my first thoughts was of scripting things...then I read the rules...
Having not seen the tool or its complete range of functionality I cannot comment entirely on its professed legitimacy. from the sounds of it though it breaks the rules of the game providing an unfair advantage to those you deem worthy of sharing it with. I myself while impressed with your ingenuity feel that regardless of your success in desining said tool have lost your way.... I previously respected the rank you had attained and attributed a level of respect towards your achievement, but at this point I wonder whether I have been playing against you or a computer... Regardless of whether or not the tool is detectable it is none the less cheating. In regards to your comment that the only thing you could see that specifically provided functionality outside of commander being auto fleet saving, well I wonder considering the apparent undetectability of the original tool and think to myself how many morally unencumbered people will take the original version with auto fleet saving and possibly other illegal functionality with little or no compunction...
I personally believe that you have a decision to make.
You can continue on your current path and possibly rule the universe that is (you meaning your script)
or
You can beg ignorance of the rules and try to save all those involved in your trials because while I personally wont go snitching to anyone in ogame admin, it seems inevitable that this will come to light. This has the potential to be one of the most controversial issues in ogame history or at least uni 9.org cause if my gut feeling is right all of those using it may find themselves banned and I hazard to guess that the star alliance are probably long term members of the test group...
Just my thoughts and as Gogo says
Respect-well done on the design of your utility I doubt not the time you must have spent
