  1. Ooohhh Droolz!!

a huge glass of red wine ..oh I feel a sauce coming on!!

Is the wine for you or as flavoring in the spagetti? I'd prefer two or three glasses...hahahah

Does anyone remember the Gallopin' Gourmet? He used to get pretty well sloshed up while cooking all kinds of good things on his TV show... /lmao

  2. gaaaak.... liver.....runs away fast!

Now with that said, my wife makes the world's best spagetti sauce you ever tasted. Lots of sausage and ground beef, fresh tomatoes in season, garlic, mushrooms and the right combination of seasonings ( you know til it tastes right, she never measures).

So she stuffs the meats and the sausages in the pot and cooks it up...( from the Godfather movie)

I'm gettin' hungry for spagetti /yay

    Oh! Honey !

  3. It's a wargame... or the world ends or the war does :-D I say we must only make sure we end up on top when it all shuts down. We will leave one day if the uni is still there anyway. Once again, make sure we end up on top and that our phasers are still smoking from shooting at our ennemies once the sun sets.

Wow...well said... "our phasers are still smoking..."

    Ya gotta love it /diablo

  4. Well we could start with the D.H.A. (David Hasselhoff Alliance, eeeeeeek!!) and then take out The Dark (you know those guys that haven't figured out how to fleetsave yet and sound too much like us) and then F.C.A. ....move onto Jin Roh and then TLA (I'd love to tackle Zual /oooo ) ....hmmmm interesting thought there Schot.

@ Esfan, I hope you're saving some of those IPMs for El Makedonero [F.C.A.], when he get's back from his vacation. I think I'm finally ready to nail his butt! /diablo (with your help again)

  5. A gentle update:

UNI 9 is now comprised of only 4,006 players and continuing its slow slide into oblivion. We've lost another 871 players (times the number of colonies they had ~ figure around 6 colonies each = 5,226 less opportunities for attacks, trading, whatever). :)

The universe gets tougher all the time. As we each grow, we become more dependant on deut for transporting rez and fleet and that gets tougher to find with less players to trade with (thank goodness for this alliance). And those who are strong keep pushing the weaker into despair. I know I've contributed to way too many players simply giving it up, not that I feel bad, but there's no new blood.) /oooo

I did find a player (ferdl) that gave it up a while back and has re-emerged by starting a new account (in noob protection and colonizing the same area in Galaxy 7). I sent him a note welcoming him back and offered to send a gift package. No response...(but, it was me that drove him away int the first place, go figure!) /blush

What a dilemma and what to do? Maybe we could recruit others with offers of gifts to get them going and then beat the snot out of them...

    .... wait ....

no, no that might not work out either, lol /rofl

Will the return to school and full-time work schedules in the fall bring new blood into the universe?

Should we find a group of new folks and mentor them..maybe a little protection and see what happens? As the Universe shrinks we face a new and unwanted threat that those stronger will want to aggressively prey on us (or even declare war) --- if we can increase our numbers through increased alliance relationships we may be able to prevail in the long run. /thumbsup

These are just a bunch of ramblings from me... but I like this game and want to play for as long as it stays interesting and fun... How about some other random thoughts about what to do.... please!! /rolleyes

  6. Da Girl! Welcome to D.a.r.k. Matters.

It is soooooo good to see you here. You have been missed for sure. /wub

Are you going to take your account out of vacation mode and get crackin? If so, please let me know and I'll get you some rez to help, as a welcome back gift.

  7. Hey schot...two things I noticed while looking at the "skinning tests" options:

    1. Remember that white text issue when previewing a post -- well it seems to be resident in this skin

    2. The post date doesn't appear, making it a little confusing.

But, I really like the background design around the avatars and that the "lines" are not there....

  8. Welcome Back, Tim. Wow --- Scotland. It's on my list of one of the hundred things I want to do before I die.

And a fine how-do-you-do from your neighbor. And, Way to go BlueRookie --- that's the spirit. /diablo

So, Tim, did you bring us a mascot? We could really use a fuzzy four-legged haggis running around the forum, you know.

Hey - ain't haggis sheep? /blink Whoa, wait a minute --- a sheep, well it does get lonely around here at night, maybe a good thing! hahahaha...

gogo, we're gonna need a sheep smilie...(runs off to find the sheep)

  9. We were at a party recently and a bunch of us were sharing stories about encounters or brushes with the rich and famous. I thought this would be a cool topic, so here goes mine:

In 2002, while working in Washington, DC, my co-worker and I were having dinner at the Old Ebbitt Grill when we noticed quite a bit of activity and some secret service agent-types (you know the guys that talk into their lapels) scurrying around near us. There was about 4 of them and they split and took 2 tables; one right next to us and the other a few tables away. My friend and I exchanged worrisome glances with each other. Shortly thereafter, a tall man in his sixties with his wife and two other younger adults came in and took the table between the two groups of agents. Within a minute or two the man was surrounded by uniformed military personnel, each holding a dollar bill. In turn, the service men presented the dollar bills to the tall man, who autographed the dollars and returned them to the men.

The man finally turned enough for me to see who he was --- It was General Tommy Franks, the then Commander of our forces in the Middle East. I thought --- cool I've got a dollar --- maybe he'll autograph it for me. I never had a chance. Just as I stood up, in walked Wayne Newton who walked past me and sat with the General and family. By then the secret service agents who were sitting nearby had moved and were standing in a circle around the General's table and asking everyone to simply return to their dinners and not bother the General or Wayne Newton. Drats --- foiled again.

When we were leaving the restaurant and had made our way to the front door, I reached to open it only to have the door open quickly just before my hand hit the door handle. The door was being opened by Sam Donaldson, the then ABC News reporter. He said "Oops, sorry", stepped back and let us pass out the door. I was surprised to find out that Sam Donaldson is a very short man -- He's only about 5'6" maybe 5'7".

Well --- quite a night --- three famous folks in less than an hour.

My wife and kids once rode in an elevator with Samuel L. Jackson. They were in Montreal (Hi, gogo) at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. He was apparently staying there, too as they rode together from the lobby up a few floors. My wife was so excited, but couldn't remember his name, so it took me almost an hour to figure out who she had just been in the elevator with.

So, how about you -- any cool encounters with the rich and famous?

  10. Zounds...beautiful work there Schot.

I really like the blue background...it adds a tremendous amount of eye appeal to the AV.

Is there anyway you could capture those subtle trees that frame the character in the original?

And I must say that's one of the sexiest AVs around... /wub

  11. Within the last couple of days, I've noticed a weird problem.

When I prepare a post, I usually do a preview of that post to check my spelling and grammar. Sometime over the last couple of days something changed; what I see when I do that is: nothing. The text color is either white or non-existent and the text does not display. It will, of course, if I select all and change the text color to black or whatever.

This seems to have begun at about the same time I was required to re-log in rather than having the forum remember me and auto-log me in. Could this be related?

When I actually post the reply without modifying the text color, the text is black, so I think the issue is within the preview post function.

  12. This is very interesting...

Apparently, some users have figured out how to script esp probe attacks. So, in their infinite wisdom, GF has labeled the ability of esp probes to capture and transport resources a bug. And to fix the bug, they will remove that ability.

I think the real issue is the script users - clearly a violation of game rules - but no doubt difficult to detect, but a violation nevertheless.

The strategy to render the probes incapable of carrying rez removes a viable strategy from the game-play. I've never had a probe army and never probe raided. It always seemed that I needed the crystal for other purposes and it's that way even now for me.

I don't believe it's a bug (seems to work just fine) and I disagree with the strategy that GF is putting on the table. I am glad that there's been a lot of good discussion about the issue and that GF has delayed (only slightly) this change.

I'm hoping that continued constructive dialog on the OOF will make GF reconsider their "fix". But, I'm not holding out a lot of hope on this one...

Maybe they should fix the "No-Fire Bug" first, whadda ya think?

  13. /drool my ISP and the terrible heat just don't get along. I've been without connection most of the day and just now got it back. I fleetsaved immediately, lost connection about 3 minutes later. It just popped back in now, so I thought I'd send this, in case anybody's looking for me, I'll be at the mercy of the heat and my ISP.

Wish me luck until they get it fixed or it cools off. It hit 100 degrees in North Carolina today and with the humidity they heat index was 107. Way too much...
