  1. sounds like I just leave it the way it is then.

It is just my personal opinion. Hopefully other techies in the forum will share their opinions too. Than you will have an easier decision.

WD Black series are working great with their 32mb caches. Even blue series are more than enough for most users.

I was able to restore data from hdds, but I never able to recover anything from raid 0 configured harddrives. As long as you have your backup periodically, it shouldn't be a huge issue but still I like to be secure with my data.

  2. I don't believe and trust any raid configurations if the raid card is not server level quality. Raid 0 is too risky for a performance difference. If one of the hdd fails, you loose everything.

I have same hdd like you have (WD Black 640gb) and I never felt it is running behind on any application or a game. It is fast enough for any applications I used so far.

But I love raid 5 capabilities on servers.

  3. After your topic's inspiration :) , I started to read more about SSD drives and find out read/write speeds are very various.

On newegg it shows each speeds and make sure you get the faster one. it will make huge difference.

And Dane-Elec brand wasn't the best one out there.

Read speed is good enough but write speed is slower than most of them.

  4. The Mayan 2012 end of the world was actually supposed to happen at 2003 or so... but nothing happened so they moved it to 2012 :gun2:

When nothing happens in 2012 they will claim some mistake in interpreting the "prophecies", and move it to another date, like 2021.

    ;) Exactly

They speculate people something to believe or talk about for a long time, and while everyone is busy talking about it, politicians robs the people ;)

  5. The hard part is that Furian has a Dell Inspiron 530s computer which is a low prfile case. not that many cards out there. The best ATI I can find is this one:Asus

Or a GeForce like this one: Geforce

than 9800 gt it is. Not many options for the low profile. When the chip gets stronger, cooling become a problem on low profile GPUs.

  6. Are you set on type and brand? (Nvidia and BFG, that is.)

Because ATI's cards are quite a strong product at the moment.

Do you have prices for the two?

Not set on these as a brand. It just happens to be at bestbuy where I live. The gts 250 is about $189 and the 9800 about $150. I want to get a good card under $200 that in 2 months time I don't want to be saying " dang I wish I would have bought XXX"

I don't remember when I was shopping in bestbuy last time :)

buy it online and save tons of money. I recommend newegg.com

you could find decent card under $200 and you don't need to pay tax for it, and most cases it is free shipping.

check this table for comparing graphic cards

    4870 prices from newegg

  7. I am with Furian67 on this. I am planning to do it in some point. I am also not planning to add that much meat between the layers. With little bit of adjustment I think it will turn out delicious. Now I need to find a good time to call some friends to come over (to watch a game or something). I know I can not handle that beast alone.
