101! Mine is only 66 and we started at almost the same time. You're plowing through the levels Eth

If you go through the portal under start island and start moving quick, nothing will spawn until you stop. This includes Fens, TG's, etc. You'll quickly be at the Guardians door in relative safety.
It's a slightly longer run than the portal though.

Occasionally I find the doors ridiculously difficult to open. Just keep clickin!

Podgie, that's a real shame. My windows key doesn't work when I am in the game. Perhaps see if you can find something to disable it.

Interesting.
I am slightly concerned about random attributes on items you are having crafted from materials that may require a long time to acquire.

You should only really need the BFG itself as a weapon.
As for armor, try to get the Endijian's Artifacts set, or alternatively armor with as many sockets as possible. Into the sockets, stick things like: RpH, All skills/CAs, deathblow, +evade, -dot, along with blacksmith arts (Niob level if possible).
Try to find a few pairs of gloves with elemental modifiers and switch between them as needed for bosses/enemies with specific resistances.

If so, no it doesn't need to be in a single playthrough, just with one character.
