  1. Nice info, thanks Maurice!

I think I'll get this game just for the sake of the connection it has with Sacred 3!

You probably can't give away too much about Sacred 3 at this stage, but please tell us that the showing will be a bit more than a cryptic 1 minute video?

Can you tell us how much more "modern" the game is going to be since the time line is so much later? Will there be sharks with frikin lazor beams?

  2. so after playing for a few hours, how are you guys finding the server populations? From what I gather about yesterday's launch, some servers were just nasty over populated, but later on when I watched some live streams of Asura (dunno what server it was...) there was nobody in the Asura main city apart from the two players on the stream... they did mention that the human zone was over populated and that you'd often times get placed back in the overflow server after completing a personal story instance.

I suppose that Aug 28 will reveal more, but Anet said that the free home server changes will only be available for the next 7 days, so I imagine that we'd need to settle on our final choice of home server by Aug 31?

  3. yeah that is the one I used and the top one I used a yellow background, but it won't be part of the emblem creator in the game as I understand... just for viewing what the emblem will look like on different backdrops.

But I imagine the choices will increase over time. As Kiyeri pointed out with the GW1 wiki - there are tons more options available there. I wonder why they did not just copy/paste all the old ones in the first place? mebbe to give us something to talk about. :whip:

  4. and so... 1 year later... :Just_Cuz_12:

Well, with GW2 about to be released, I noticed a few real good signature generators out there already! But none that would be 100% personalized. So if you want a GW2 sig just gimme a shout and a screenshot/mugshot (as I understand, high res screenshots can be done by holding down Shift, or was that Cntrl, or mebee Alt? :Just_Cuz_21: dunno, I'll edit this post when the I get into the game).

And samples of what you want is always good to have as a head start. And to keep cut-out work to a minimum, try and pose in front of a green screen when taking yer screenshot  ...OK, so probably no green screens floating around in GW2, but perhaps a solid wall background or somethin'

EDIT: about the high-res screenshots... just did a lil google search and apparently you have to enable it in the options menu... there is also anoption for 3D screenshots and I'm rather interested to see what the outcome of that is!

  5. I always liked the reversed idea:

Defending dragons against knights who don't notice that all the virgins are groupies listening to the dragons heavy scales rythm beat and its fire light show...

Defending orc lands from all these nasty adventurers who look for treasure....

The class I would like to see again and this time as a playable one:

    Orc Cook ...

collect the most nasty recipes from dark kitchen and allow the cook to do alchemy with them...

Orcs.. Yeah.. I can get behind that idea. But for cripe's sake - make him a bit more noble than that. Not so sure I want the equivalent of a monkey running around tossing his bodily waste at people - no matter how toxic it might be. I'd rather see one with a big ol' 2 handed battle ax or an archer. Sure.. Make him so he can be good or evil.

In fact, I think it would have been quite interesting - and challenging - to see an orc play through Sacred 2... Maybe see people running in fear at first, then generally learn to accept the guy as he does various deeds. I think it would have been quite interesting to have that sort of dynamic - as people learn that Orcs may smell funny, but they're not all that bad and <gasp> be heroic even. There's all manner of comic gold that could be mined from such a character. Have a running gag where people offer to hook him with a bath.. Introduce him to the concept of soap... And when he gets to the Orc lands, have his fellow Orcs comment on how funny he smells. Genius...! It could work. Maybe for Sacred 3...?

ahhh - ye ol' friendly Uruk Hai

    tumblr_lwkjuac2mM1qih4j7o1_400.jpg

But it sure would be a grand option and rather unique class!

  6. Nice tips here Kiyeri!

I saw another tip in videos for casters and that is to have "smart cast" enabled (I really don't know what the correct term or setup option is...). Basically it's to insta-cast your Area of Effect spell wherever you mouse pointer is, so there's no need to aim the Area of Effect first. Perhaps that's more a matter of preference, but something I'll surely use when rolling an elementalist one day.

  7. So interesting reading these replies!

Well, I was not really a lurker on this site, but started with a little lurking on the SIF and occasionally found myself trapped without sunglasses here

Back in the day I thought of myself as a Sacred guru and pointed out to all my friends where they could improve their game. I actually only stumbled on the SIF when downloading the Sacred Gold Plus patch, but soon found that I really knew very little about the game. Not long after registering on the SIF did I register here. The general mood was just a lot more friendly and I fell right into place, wanted or not. I will, however, be eternally grateful to the SIF for winning my free copy of Sacred 2 (although I was unable to play it on my low-spec PC when it finally arrived in the post).

    Can't believe it's been 6 years already! :Just_Cuz_21:

  8. I gave the Charr a good look, but I don't like their armor that much. Especially that face cloth thingy... there is obviously some better looking gear, but none that attract me as much as the Human, Norn and Asura gear.

Just one thing about the small and scrawny - I was mostly referring to human males there. I think female characters can get away with the short and "cute" approach. Asura, well there's no fun to be made of since they are a short race... I'm thinking of an Asura as a race I'd play further along the road, but I watched a few Dontain's "Get Crit" videos and he sports an Asura warrior all in pink that color just seems to bring out the worst in the armor and put me a little off Asura.

@Kiyeri about the "top heavy" models - mebbe confirms my argument of a "male testosterone" influence :sweating:

  9. Just as I thought. I really don't see any reason why a woman would play a male character (other than jealous boyfriends). I understand that for women it's nothing to do with the staring at anything, but I'm pretty sure you won't be choosing the shortest, stockiest model available? I'd bet 99% of women create their ideal look and figure in-game. the other 1% create male characters to keep their boyfriends happy.

I really can't say why men play female characters either... I know there are the "obvious" reasons but somehow I think there's more to it than that. I think there's something about playing a "fragile" character but secretly striving to be the strongest and most revered player on the server that appeals to men. :paladin:

dunno - I'm probably totally wrong and just comes down to "men" and the "obvious" reasons...

Either the "secret surprise" or create the tallest, most muscular Norn possible and jump around bear chested and dance in the fountains. I really don't see any man creating a short and scrawny human male and feel totally proud of his character - there's just no surprise element there, just lil guy running around waiting to be made fun of...

I certainly don't want to model my character after myself! I'd be politely asked to leave the guild asap, I'm sure..

  10. During the Beta Weekends excursions Max and Ryanrocker were the only male characters - well at least I think Ryanrocker's Asura was male. But Kiyeri, lujate and myself were running female characters.

So only you and lujate were playing off-gender (if that is an official term:) ) and I guess the question to Kiyeri is then if she would ever play a male character?

    lol about Asura gender comment!

  11. I think we should wait until one or two days after the launch and see in which server we're going to settle. Then we'd need to check how many people we meet that actually want to join in our guild and then make the call about how strict/lax the joining rules should be.

Whatever the call, I think the intro page of Clan-DA that flooxim posted above is good and we should probably set up a new topic rather than extend to this one. The GW2 specific intro Q&A is also a good idea, but I think we can stick with the DarkMatters Tricky Questions

But this game is a wierd one to pin point with guilds, since players can belong to multiple guilds and we really can't insist on exclusivity... but Kiyeri's point is totally valid that it would be nice to add someone to the guild roster that you "clicked" with in-game. I dunno, guild and DM admin to make the final call. I suppose it's just as easy to get anyone kicked out of the guild as it is to join...

  12. :Just_Cuz_21: :Just_Cuz_21: :Just_Cuz_21:

    What will you choose?

I'm still leaning strongly to creating my 1st character as a guardian. But elementalist and ranger are both running close 2nd. The guardian just has that "something" that draws me in - the protection, the two handed hammer, the conditions.

As for race... I really don't know! Most likely human, but the Norn character models seem to have an edge! (especially the Norn females). My 2nd character will probably be a Sylvari...

But the gender has me in a twist.

Most human male characters look very much alike:

    2ew1l421.jpg

Just add a bit of stubble or a goatee and you're 1/10000

There appears to be a lot more variety on the female end and even more so on the Norn females :sweating: PG13 ratings should be in place for some of the created models I've seen!

I'll probably end up playing a human male... or at least my 1st creation...

Although I'm sure there are tons of male players that are sporting female characters, I'm actually wondering how many female players run around with male characters? Do the female players create male characters and try and turn them into some hunk? I'm sure the reason why men play with female characters is that they get to run around with their "dream date" (well perhaps sometime go totally in the opposite direction and create the absolute ugliest model the game can conjure). I'm leaning towards female characters because I'm so used to playing with the Seraphim and staring at a "womans" behind for hours on end is just a little more pleasant in general. I'll play around and see if there's a kind of anime look that can be attained... I don't necessarily want to run around as some super model, but hey, a female supermodel is a lot better than a male supermodel...
