  1. You can run Underworld, with the 2.28 patch on a 64 bit system -- I have been doing so for 2 years. I did nothing special to make it work, at least nothing I can remember.

The most difficult problem to deduce and resolve related to graphics glitches and odd hangs once the game started. I finally found a post on the old SIF that indicated Underworld only runs on a single processor -- so you must set the processor affinity for the executable if you have a multi-core system.

  2. I've had a similar problem on rare occasions -- during combat all of a sudden I can't move. Teleporting does no good either, but a game restart always fixes the problem. It has seemed random for me -- not Gar'Colossus but rather ordinary mobs in the desert or swamp. I'm running the vanilla 2.43 patch under Vista-64, and usually SP as well.

There was a similar, common problem in Underworld. It was related to the "granny.dll" becoming corrupt. I'm not sure if Sacred 2 uses that, though

  3. Well, Ysne, that was rather sheepish... <groan>

A marathon runner without footwear suffers the agony of defeat. <cheer> doubly funny because not too many marathoners could actually win an event without shoes...

. . . Unless he is Abebe Bikila at the 1960 Olympic games in Rome.

Bikila won the marathon barefoot. He won it again in Tokyo, 1964 -- but wore shoes that time.

  4. Well you said your on 2.43. Think the only thing you can do is update to 2.65.2 as I have no issues killing him when he is spectral.

I just have Fallen Angel, not Ice&Blood for now...

I have just FA, too. No problem with ranged weapons on 2.43 and ghosts nor the dragon, either. And boy was I surprised when the dragon respawned. I did not know about that and just ran back into the cave "edging" it. Close call.

  5. Well I'll be dipped. I keep expecting to hear "Well done player . . ." every dungeon I enter. Now I know why I don't.

And does visibility affect % explored? I know in underworld it did not matter what your visibility was -- you got credit for each "block" you entered. Seeing did not matter. You got the whole block even if you only just crossed the edge, but got nothing even if you saw the whole thing but did not enter.

I'm at 74% explored now, with a couple areas I can yet visit. Plus I did not do good "edge" work in many dungeons. I fully expect to hit 80% without any visibility boost.

  6. I will give it a try this weekend -- although I do have Underworld. Buyt I fail to see how the process would "build up" your character. All you are doing is making a copy of it, then putting it into a new game. No gain I can see. If you are attempting to protect yourself against death, why not simply save the game and re-load it should you perish.

  7. Could be the psu. 460W is on the lower side for high end graphics. Depends upon how much else you have installed: ram, hard drives, etc. -- everything draws power. Also, is it a single rail power system -- I.e. all 460W on the same line, or is it divvied up into multiple rails?

I'd suspect that too much peak power is being taken on a warm boot, as Chattius did as well. On a cold boot, the load is probably more balanced, so the peak level is not as high.

  8. Hi Everyone,

Been lurking for a couple weeks now.

I play the singleplayer version of Sacred.

Found it in the store for $10. It's got both campaigns on it.

I found this site while looking for walkthroughs/help because the quest log of my character seems to stop at page 8 and nothing since then is recorded.

Also, at a loss as to how to kill most dragons.

And as my name here implies, yes playing a daemon.

Did you notice the tabs on the side of the book? You probably completed Part I, and further items are being recorded on tab II. As I recall, that is where Wilbur dies at Ice Creek Pass.

Edit: As to killing dragons -- keep moving; don't get caught in the flames. Using a high level combat art from a combo, repeatedly with concentration potions (yellow) to inflict more severe damage.

  9. Runes: As you say, regeneration slows. For most attacks, I usually read just one, and boost CA levels with equipment and/or socketing. For CAs with duration -- say Multiple Shot for the wood elf, keep the regeneration time smaller than the effective time, whenever possible.

Bronze v Silver: I always start in Silver. But it is somewhat more difficult. If you find you continue to die regularly, consider bronze until you get a better feel for your character.

Combos: I almost always play a wood elf using explosive arrow. Once I've progressed far enough (say around level 60 or so), I create a "combo suit" that maximizes the level of my EA. I then create 2 combos - 1x EA and 4x EA. The level of the CA remains in the combo even after I remove the suit -- these combos are on a different timer than my regular CA, so allow extra attack capability against large bosses and dragons, for example. But with extremely long regen times, they are not for frequent use. Yellow potions of concentration regenerate combos virtually instantaneously, for those that wish to use them as their primary attack.

Ideas/concepts: You could peruse the guides at the sacred wiki to get some ideas. Play around, experiment. Do what is fun. The last is the key -- FUN.

Sorry I did not see this sooner.
