  1. I feel your pain podgie. My worst computer experience has been with the GeekSquad. ...

[/b]Erased system Harddrive?!? I could have done that for free, not for $200! #$@%! Anyways, I was very angry to say the least and I recommend for people not to support crooks like GeekSquad. Now back to my NEW computer... :)

Yipes! What they did for you is nasty! Not helpful. And... BAD. (lame).

I'd like to submit that viruses these days are getting more and more sophisticated. Two or three years ago someone demonstrated at Black Hat that even wiping the hard drive might not be good enough to get rid of a virus... it can live in the BIOS... so just booting the system could potentially (one day) re-infect the system. I hope we're not there yet! That will be a scary day indeed.

These tales are warning to us all to take copies of cherish data: Sacred info (guides, pix, screen caps of chats with friends) and CHARACTER and Save games--and put them on another media (USB drives--which by the way are the preferred means of infecting systems these days)--or burn to a CD or DVD (or in the near future: a blu-ray disc {will that be brD?}).

    Backing up data is important.

  2. Re: Invulnerable quest companions. I thought all children companions were immortal... from S1 forwards (to Sacred 2 and beyond). The fallout of a kid dying is waaay too much to allow it to happen... so I believe kids were made invulnerable in Ancaria.

  3. The question is do you believe they get a kind of secret MF value that is set on creation?

    ...

I talked with Lllama a bit about this but we didn't come to a conclusion.

    ...

The only other difference between them is kill speed. One uses fiery ember which kills slowly in small hits and the other uses Amplified Discharge which is one-shotting most things. This could be further proof towards kill speed affecting drops

I believe that drops are affected by class in S1. I further believe that drops are affected by CA type in Sacred 2.

Each class has 3 different combat art trees. I believe fatal damage source is considered when the game is generating drops.

That way the game can slant (but not stack) your drops towards your character.

We know that runes are 40% likely to your class (from the balance.txt file).

It's not much of a stretch to believe drops are slanted towards your character type of that particular character.

A slant does not mean 100% chance your type of special drop... just that, over time, the average drops should be better for that character type.

You can still have horrible dry periods where nothing comes... or bizarre times where everywhere you turn there are great/useful drops.

Our brains are always making patterns--even when no pattern is there (or is insanely complex like Sacred). Personal experience will make us think one way, but the only real way to know for sure is either to reverse engineer the code... or take a huge sample, (10,000s of drops). With a huge sample the local hill climbing and clumping will be overwhelmed by the wealth of data points.

That all being said: I believe our combat arts used influence our drops. :D

  4. It may seem like the bosses's drops are disappointing compared to what you get from the mobs... however, you're likely only looking at the items you kept... not the items you sold right away or didn't even bother to pick up.

We kill about 100x as many trash monsters as we do bosses (takes a while to wade through the masses to reach more than one boss in a session). So. 100x time base chance.... compared to 5x drops from one boss (who has a higher chance--but still a slim one of a 'great' drop).

Hands down, unless you farm just one boss/game session (and restart) you'll be get many more drop chances from lesser opponents... which means more of your drops will come from them...

    Cheers all!

  5. Just wanted you to know that you're not being ignored. I read your message, but as I'm not using Windows 7...

Let me just clarify: You were using Sacred 2.43 on Windows 7.

Now, you're trying to use an updated version of Sacred on Windows 7.

Are you logged into an account with administrative access? This might be your problem if you're not.

Activation probably needs higher level system access.

Try an account with Administrative access is my suggestion.

  6. imho...

...one root canal treatment was more than enough :Just_Cuz_21:

I'm using this one since two years ago, and boy, my teeth and my mouth feel so much better since then.

    You won't regret it!

    Max

Wow! Highend toothbrush! Smeagol luvs electric toothbrush! Ooohhh! Yes, my... PRECIOUS! :( (Philips_Sonicare_FlexCare in Rotluch's post... I couldn't read the name from the pic, but it's in the file name)) And Fish! Lots and lots of wriggly wiggly Fish!

  7.

Question: To play on the closed servers can only be done with Ascaron provided patches, yes?

Yes, our CM-Patch is inofficial improvement and thus not available on closed net servers.

With the recent v0080, all shrinkheads that exist can be found ingame.

Soooo... time for a little SP head huntin' fun! :Just_Cuz_21: With the patch!

  8. My fav movie would have to be Jeepers creepers. I dont find it scary I just love the story I could watch it over and over!

I'm really wondering why this one is your favourite... I'm tempted to watch it... but want to know more.

Can you tell me more (characters, dialogue, camera work, twisted plot lines, complicated, simple and pulse pounding action that never stops, etc... what is it that makes you want to repeat?)

    =======

I highlighted the ones on your list that I've seen and enjoyed too:

    other films:

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels ^^

    Les Rivières pourpres (crimson rivers)

    Léon (The Professional)

    Nikita

    Run Lola Run

..and a lot more, like almost all genres,

except for Manga , Romance , Sport I don't bother..

and I can't stand Splatter (because without 'depth') -

also dislike Comedy like American Pie or Scary Movie, those are just dull.

I really like American Pie --the humour of 'uncomfortableness' and 'embaressment {that is waaay over the top}' I find very amusing.

In real life any of these things would mortify me, but in movies, it's ok, and even funny at times. Just like real life violence makes me sick,

but movie violence just gets me excited.

    Your list reminded me of

XXX (not porn, the action movie with Vin Diesel. I really like movies that are rollercoaster action action action)

The new James Bond movie (1 back now) was like that too. Daniel Craig's first James Bond movie... imdb save me now: Casino Royal

  9. I joined here a long time ago... very excited about learning all I could about Sacred.

mini story: When my Mom met my kindergarten teacher (1 year of schooling before the official Grade 1)... my Mom was shocked because the teacher burst out laughing! "Oh you're David's mother" was about all the teacher could manage.

Apparently, I was quite a talker. Even then.

Not much has changed, eh?

  10. The community patch here apparently fixed some of the shrunken heads so more will appear! Let's go headhunting?

    "V0064 is Up.

    Changes:

    * Unavailable Shrinkheads can now be obtained from some special enemies (Except: rare human-head and rare goblin-head, for which we need some suitable enemies, but we are working on them).

I'm getting interested in this. As I understand it, if you play on the closed servers you can't use the community patch... is that correct? How to phrase this positively?

Question: To play on the closed servers can only be done with Ascaron provided patches, yes?

  11. As I mentioned earlier in this thread (months ago) I was tinkering in SP with the game parameters for drops.

When I did that, I cranked up drop quality to maximum. I also, somehow (did a lot of tinkering without documenting as I went...DOH!), increased the number of drops.

When twinked, at one point I completed the Kobold Chieftain quest in the start village.... and got about 10 set items dropping from the quest completion. That was weird! It would be nice to know what variables affected this... but I had changed so many of that point that this remains unknown.

Twinked, I would get set and uniques showing up regularly from chests and barrels. Untwinked, I've received 1 unique and about 2 set items from my 2 years of playing untwinked--I can't usually pass up a barrel or chest!

  12. Everytime you get a drop you have about a 8/1000 chance of a set or unique. So, randomly, there will be stretches where you get great drops, and sometimes big vacuums where nothing good drops.

That is why soldats was doing tests where there 100s of drops--and drops with the bosses who have the highest chance of good drops--plus multiple drops/kill.

I would be very interested in what others who play in Niob (or even Plat) get from boss runs.

To add one little bit: I've received a set item as a drop from a chest. I've also found an unique from a chest (in Khorum, right outside the merchant downhill from the portal). So. Even chests can set drop for you...and unique drop for you (though it sure is less exciting than risking your toon's life fighting opponents).

  13. In Sacred, I always want to have a character with the maximum movement speed. If you can outrun the opponents you can kite multiple groups together to increase your XP/hour rate. You can also outrun damage (melee/ranged)... which is also great.

In S1, that meant traveling to Mascarell and buying a mount with 220 movement speed (and buying a saddle with movement speed bonus IIRC), or, if a Dwarf, getting the set that boosted your speed.

In Sacred 2, I initially thought that the mounts (horses and epic) would do that. But, from what I've seen (and I've only dabbled in horses), the movement bonus is minimal.

I found that using a Niob shopper I can buy about 9.8% movement increase at char level 2. Socket and wear these rings... and blammo! Movement speed 150%. On foot.

Are there other strategies that work better to max your movement speed?

I'm sure there are and I just haven't thought of them.

    What do you think?

  14. Hmm. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to drop something that Hans-Arno Wegner (lead designer of S1 and Sacred 2) said in here.

I asked him about the Seraphim in S1 using Dual Wield, 2 Fadalmar's Embossed Axes socketed with 4 Fadalmar's rings (and over-socketed to allow a Seraphim without Axe Lore to wield the axes). That produced a Seraphim character that was never designed to have Fadalmar's fireballing axe (the bonus from a fully socketed, normally single weapon wielded axe was % chance for fireballs for each time an opponent was damaged).

I asked him something along the lines of, "Is this cheating?"

And he answered (with words to this effect), "No. It wasn't foreseen, but it is possible in the game as designed. So, go do it if it pleases you."

I'm pretty sure they've foreseen the ramifications of the shared chest. So, I think niob-smithing and niob-shopping of low level gear is a deep-gamer intentional aspect of the game.

  15. Ancient Magic vs Damage Lore?

As a spell caster you need Ancient Magic to lower resists... spells either come with optional DoT or can't proc it.

Damage Lore triggers when you use ranged or melee weapons... so it is aimed at fighters/archers/ranged attackers.

If your prime source of damage is spells, then Ancient Magic.

If your prime source of damage is Staves, then Staff Lore, Tactics Lore (damage multiplier), Damage Lore (DoT from Staves)

If your prime source of damage is Magic Coup ---it straddles melee and magic... so Tactics Lore and Damage Lore should support it. According to the wiki though, they don't. :P It is an unsupported spell, like the melee mage from S1. But RpH can still be used to regen the spells for the HE.
