Which is better - plain damage or % when socketing for damage

hi just need your vast knowledge, pls could you tell me wats betr damage % or plain damage numbers wen socketing ?

heh, don't think you're going to like my answer to your question... it depends?

 

I was asking this same question a while back actually, you can read this page here on what I discovered for a Dryad at med high to high levels and her experience with damage rings:

I guess the boil down comes to...if you have a lot of mods on, base will give more damage. If you have a ton of base on, a mod(percentage multiplier like crit, smith runes etc) will help.
