Sacred 2 / Ice and Blood randomly closes?

Recommended Posts

I recently bought both sacred 2 and blood and ice and when I start playing for a few minutes it just randomly closes and goes back to the desk top

Welcome to Darkmatters!

Ok.. A bit more information might be helpful.. Things like:

a.) Windows version?

b.) Patch level for Windows?

c.) ANY error messages?

d.) What else is running in the background?

e.) Anything in the Event Viewer logs (application section) that might tell us more?

Throw us some meat with the bone - so we can get you up and running...

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Didn't see the reply.

OK.. So you've got Windows 7 64 bit..

So what about the hardware? CPU? Graphics card? You can find this in the Device Manager - found by clicking on the START button, then typing DEVICE MANAGER - and clicking on the result.

Assuming you've got the UK version of the game - given you've said that you've gotten the Ice and Blood expansion. You mention that your game is at 2.43. This tells me that Ice and Blood hasn't been installed as yet. If so, your game would be at 2.64 or 2.65.1 or 2.65.2. You might try installing the expansion and at least the 2.65.1 patch. This makes the game more compatible with Windows 7. See the instructions for how to do this correctly here...

Also, in addition to this, you might want to try making the game think it's running under Windows XP SP3 by modifying the shortcut to run in Compatibility mode. Right-Click on the shortcut on the desktop and go to Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and tell it to fool the game into thinking it's running under XP...

Ok.. It's all pretty much stock gear. Nothing jumps out as being problematic by itself. Except perhaps the video RAM. You've got a 64 bit OS, NO 4 GB limitation and your video card is sucking up 2.24 GB of RAM? If that Nvidia 8600 GT is built into the motherboard, that means over 1/2 of the RAM you've got on your motherboard is going to the video.. NOT a good thing. On the other hand if it's an add-in card, it could still be sharing system memory. There's no good reason to have 2.24 GB of video RAM with only 4 GB of system RAM.

With games like Sacred 2, you're better off with more system memory than video memory AND tone down the graphics level to minimum...

In the mean time, did you read the rest of my post above and apply the steps in question? (I.e. install the expansion Ice and Blood and patch to 2.65.1)...

just got one more question how can I get the camera view to match this

I do not see anything about that camera that looks different to me, but I have not played with the default camera in a very long time. Try this thread and see if it helps.

what I want is a view thats behind the character instead of diablo view

Click and hold the mouse wheel, and then you should be able to adjust the camera position by moving the mouse.
