  1. I would agree with that Chattius. I prefer to eat things in season, that is, when they are in season where I live. That way we get good quality. Imported fruit out of (our) season never seems quite right, though in some cases unavoibable (bananas don't do to well in our garden!). I think I am out of tune with a system that says everything should be available all the time. On the other hand my wife makes jam, and bottles fruit. Plum jam, and apples and pears for tarts are available at all times. If not always our own, at least processed in the best season here. We have had so many appalling strawberries, for instance, in winter months!!
  2. Yummy. But have not had a jam doughnut in years. My teeth can't take it anymore. Pity. Wife makes super plum jam. Mebbe I could get her to try the liqueur filling. But why limit them to carneval? Les Anges Déchus look fairly appetizing too .. how did they get in there?
  3. Not a breed I recognise, and pity the English wiki is concentrated on sheep dogs. Good to see an old breed being brought back into use. Will send link to vet daughter in Canada
  4. Been trying to download pics of France floods - plenty on web .... but as usual I have forgotten how to do it! Good photos of the shrine at Lourdes, a flooded camp site in the south, and parked large vehicles.
  5. Seems we have serious flooding in France now - but I have no pics as yet. All I have seen in our village was flooding caused by overloading of road drainage system ... and of course my camera had flat batteries. We are reasonably high above the main rivers here. We had a flash storm but not as bad as elsewhere. Will try to get some news pics.
  6. Nasty. You lead a very active life my friend. But I suppose that, as with most flooding, it is the aftermath that causes the worst problems. I remember Claire reporting on the flooding in the north of England a year or two back. We get flooding on the Loire at the confluence with other major rivers, but though it looks as bad as your photo of Passau, it is not on such a grand scale, and our little village is above it all - unless the global warming brings back the ancient sea of Falun which almost touched our village - long, long time ago. You will be busy for a longtime after the flood goes down. Good luck.
  7. I hear of very serious flooding in Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia (or whatever the current names is). A 1 in 100years flood. Just checking to see if all is OK with Chattius area?
  8. Have anti-virus of course and scan for malware etc nearly every days. It doesn't seem to do anything, just interfere and make a simple process take longer!! I can't even make out what the program is - it is not listed on uninstall list. P.S. Task Manager is an interesting list - no idea what most are, but I looked a couple up on Web and got rid of them. Awesomium turned out to be a thing stuck on by Turbine (Lotro), cheeky b's and using a lot of juice though I gave up on Lotro some time ago. Plus a ConnectivityManager apparently installed by our old friends Orange (France Telecom). Erased both with gay abandon, and thought one might be the culprit - but the odd dialog boxes illustrated above still appear.
  9. Quite recent arrival on my screen and I don't know where it comes from or how to get rid of it. It interferes with the automatic connection to the internet, and involves several manual clicks before I can get on line. Does anyone recognise it? http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa150/sagbag/Descriptor1_zps38d8cf2f.jpg appears when I boot http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa150/sagbag/Descriptor2_zps1a5cfd06.jpg appears when I want to connect and I can't find a way round it so that the connection is automatic on boot.
  10. Helps if you get the name right Wolfie! As for me I must be a nervous wreck, I have ASC6pro, Spybot, Avast and probably others. I sometimes worry that ASC is clearing out too much when it wades into the cookies regardless, but can't be bothered to check if any should be kept.
  11. I hate to say so Gogo but Chattius sprouts look more appetising than your poutine. And red sprouts - this we must see.
  12. Oh man, Gogo - well done buddy. You might even hear from me occasionally now I have sorted out my own web access problems .... er ... last time I said that it refused to work next time I switched on. It must have done you good to realise just how much support you have, and how important this site is for people even if they don't log in for some time. I wonder if I could get Amazon to send you a special poutine ...
  13. OMG - 6 months since I posted here - sorry Gogo. however the site is looking better than for a long time - super work Gogo and team. Think I had better get working and get more active. Must have said that before ..... however, New Year resolutions are the order of the day Must admit I had been a bit scared off by the sheer superiority of knowledge among some of the folks now active in the old kitchen forum. Chattius is way above my level, and as for people who are professionals in food/cooking they make me want to runaway and hide rather than air my scrappy reminiscences. However I was given a decent camera - so no excuse now ... except that the battery is flat and I am always in too much of a hurry, to stuff my face before the food gets cold, to remember to take pics. Promise to do better? Who would believe it. Meanwhile has anyone any suggestions for a celebratory meal for DM's return? Yeah, yeah, drinks all round, but what about food?
  14. Are we back yet? at least this thread lets me type into it! If so drinks all round Wow - where did my "new" avatar come from?
  15. Great. Thanks. Will be here till late this evening, then away till 11 Nov, back for 1 day, the away again a couple of days to collect wife from airport in Paris. 16. Pity Gogo, but I think she has "gone off" Montreal. The plane arrived on time. But the outgoing flight to Vancouver had to be cancelled not once but twice because of engine problems and she was 3.1/2 hours late. Added to which her luggage had gone to Ottawa, though that was hardly Montreal's fault. She will be off poutine for life now. Plua she has a stinking cold and sore throat! LOL - oh no I shouldn't! PS Maples to me is a furniture store - does it have branches (oh dear) in Canada?
  17. Thanks Masteff for your help. I will be away for two weeks, but would like to take this up again when I get back. The SU connection is still not working. I have done a certain amount of analysis, but am now concentrating on using the Sacred Plus connection to get two or three chars set up to build while I am away. I will have PC but no Internet connection. The network IP address for the upstairs and downstairs PCs are different and keep changing. This is automatic and presumably OK. I need to check Carolyn's post again for other connections/ports. Also not sure whether I can in fact create two on-line "servers" on one connection, one for each game - and if not how to delete the one I have now created for Sacred Plus. As you can see, I am a) ignorant and b) confused!
  18. Hey - can that avatar of yours cook?. As Canada has my wife on loan for a few weeks, Perhaps you could lend me your avatar - sort of lend-lease?
  19. What we used to call "dreich" (spelling anyone?). But with my wife away perhaps I am biased - looks miserable and grey to me though. No photos - would be too depressing!
  20. For Pete's sake somebody give me a double Mickey Finn. Going bonkers here after several days (weeks?) of trying to remember all the little "wrinkles" to get Sacred Gold started in the right style. Been a real trip down memory lane digging among the old files for Sacred Plus and Underworld. Having to cook for myself while my wife is away (Vancouver via Montreal) does not help the morale Make that a triple. I noticed another old gadgee looking for shortcuts to work through the game quickly and see what makes it tick. I never did finish, even in bronze. I got my little local LAN server going for "hoarding", as someone called it, but only for Sacred+. It would be better, for a demon fanatic, if Underworld would connect up. Now I am trying to remember the technique for getting easy runes from the Rune Master, but none of my trial efforts are quite right. Helps to pass the time but frustrating when the memory has gone! All very reprehensible, but pure hack and slash can get boring. Oh for a plate of fish and chips and a glass of real ale. Don't suppose you have any? I saw Steve had restarted with Gold, or has that worn off by now?
  21. Brilliant Masteff - well remembered. That is precisely what I needed ... I hope ... will try it later when I have time. And thanks for the PM offer. I had forgotten about Co-op! My version is French unfortunately, so I will have to figure that one out. My memory is not so good these days!
  22. Yep Stormwing - hoarding - much better name for it. Must have been a fairly common technique, but can we still set it up:) I only did a double install to see if it would work on one or the other or both .... or more likely neither. So I was encouraged to get most of the way with Sacred+ ... if it would only save!!
  23. Once again renewing acquaintance with Sacred and trying to do something with LAN which may no longer be possible. - I have installed Sacred Plus, twice in separate folders, and I have added the Underworld expansion to one of these. So I can play Sacred Plus or Underworld separately. The latter mainly because I like the Daemon. I have not patched or updated either of these installations - they are as from the original CD. - When I used to play Sacred, I used a system for swapping items between chars, laborious but it worked. Set up a game on LAN, for my own use, send char #1 there, drop the item(s) to be shared, on the ground or in a chest, do not export the char but save the game and exit. Then send in one at a time any chars that could use the items so deposited, pick up what was useful, export the char, and exit without resaving the game. Like a form of shared storage. - I thought I would try to set up this system again. With Sacred Plus, I managed to create a game on LAN, send in my char and play solo. But I have been unable to save the game. I had assumed that the game would be saved in my own PC and reloaded from there (sheer ignorance?). With Sacred Underworld it appears to create a connection but I cannot use it. Is this now impossible? Would it still work with the right patch? Is there any other way of creating "shared storage" so as not to waste useful pick-ups? Academic problem perhaps, but comments/suggestions (polite) would be appreciated.
  24. Aye logic is a funny thing, but there are no doubt ways round Brussels logic. Administrative rules vary from country to country. Foodstuffs banned in one country sell in another. Mad cow seems to be still choking the English, but the banned cuts and bits in England are readily available in France. I can still have oxtail soup and make haggis, and go to the farm with my churn for fresh milk. When it is still warm from the cow, as it sometimes is when the wagon has just emptied the tanks and the fresh milk has not had time to cool, we get thick cream that whips up beautifully into thick cream not unlike clotted cream. People tell me it is not legal but it is difficult to believe. Er ... cholesterol did you say ... like all things to do with food and diet that is the wife's problem.
