spooky -> Brotato
Currently most played at firefighter station. Advantage is that a game is quite fast. Nice while waiting at the phone for calls:
Brotato is a top-down arena shooter roguelite where you play a potato wielding up to 6 weapons at a time to fight off hordes of aliens. Choose from a variety of traits and items to create unique builds and survive until help arrives.
It has a ghost class...

cold -> undercurrent
There is a little artificial lake near. With the heat and dry we have the water level is way lower now and the dangerous undercurrents caused by cold water from a rivelet moved. They are way closer to the other side of the lake now. We were swimming with the family when we watched girls swimming towards the under currents. Shouting was not working, so I decided to swim towards them for warning. And suddenly there was a torpedo overtaking me...
I must be getting old. I was still considering me an excellent swimmer, even at my age. But my son is now faster and probably has better eyes because he watched nice girls in his age from other side of the lake...
To excuse the girls, the warning signs weren't adapted to the new conditions.

1933 the firefighting laws where changed here. The result was that many volunteer firefighters were founded in this year and celebrate their 90th anniversary in 2023. The neighbour village one is doing it today so our one is in readiness. Turned on the TV and there was something about good heavy metal bands. Hansi from Blind Guardian was one of the moderators and they played 'The Bard Song'. Named because one of the members was a big fan of the Bard's Tale computer game.
Was chosing the live version at Wacken. Wacken is a small village with a band of firefighters. From year to year they did bigger concerts and today Wacken is the biggest heavy metal festival at least in Germany, perhaps the world. The firefighter band is still performing befoer the international stars. Playing brass music and the audience is with them. Was at Wacken 4 times, great-

what is -> Hummingbird hawk-moth
Daughter of my niece growing up in Munich and on visit. First time seeing the moth which looks and flies like a hummingbird. We call it Taubenschwänzchen which translates as little pigeon-tail. They are fast, up to 80 km/h and can fly 3000km in 2 weeks. The hot winds from the mediterran helped them to cross the aples this year. So there were a bit more this summer

slow ball -> dilemma (of the goalie)
At a penalty you have to jump as a goalie before you know where the ball is going if aimed most left or right of the goal. The penalty shooter however can make a slow ball into the mid while the goalie who jumped is already on the ground at one of the corners when the ball arrives. The goalie can decide to don't jump at all and laughs at the one who tried a slow ball.
After a virus when I was 14 the growing of my legs was reduced compared to my arms. Long arms, short legs . they nicknamed me monkey. And monkeys are not the fastest runners. So at soccer I was the goalie.

Sheriff -> Slowhand
I always wondered how Mr. 'Slowhand' Eric Clapton was able to shoot a sheriff who was probably a trained gunfighter.

13 hours ago, Flix said:Funny, our views on the Shadow Warrior and TG are sort of flipped. They both "come back to life" after a time and have to decide whether to reinvent themselves. I guess I just imagined the human as being more likely to do so than the machine.
The Shadow Warrior reminds me of The Nameless One from Planescape Torment in a way. Wakes up in a morgue, can't remember much about himself, finds out later that he did all kinds of awful things in his past life, but is he still that same person? Maybe it is kind of cliche now. Maybe the relentless cyborg that can't be turned from his original purpose is too.
Now that I think about it, a Light Path TG might make a better foil to the Inquisitor than the Seraphim does, honestly. The TG at least is embroiled with the ancient history of the Machine and has a personal reason to care about its disposition. The Seraphim just wants to shut if off because... bland goodness.
It gets weird. There are these recurring "romance" story beats, in Thylysium and Nor Plat, and then with her old flame. For the first, the Shadow Dryad hatches this convoluted conspiracy to pit two families against each other that results in everyone dying. Why? Cause someone cut down a tree at some point, or something. It feels like a scheme the Shadow Elf might do, but way out of character for the Dryad. Then in Nor Plat a similar "Romeo and Juliet" situation arises and the Dryad just goes psycho and kills everyone.
I think there was more 'love' in the shadow warrior (Schattenkrieger). He had 5 (in words five) audiobooks to boost his story.

Global Warming or more probably: I am getting old. We visited our second at Frankfurt with the twins. Because it was hot we stepped into an ice cream parlor. All except me ordered an Eisburger. I said since when ice cream parlors sell Eisburgers. 'Pa, it is in!'. Then the Eisburger arrived. Far away from what we called an Eisburger at my army time. It was a brioche bun filled with ice cream. Well I had ordered Rosebud-ice with pears marinated in elderberry juice.
What I called an Eisburger is a burger made from Eisbein
The Eisbein is cut in pieces and this what I called an Eisburger
And this is what they sell as Eisburgers, or since the owner has italian parents: brioche con gelato
And that is Hagebutteneise mit Holunder-Birnen/rosebud-ice with pears marinated in elderberry juice.
And they call me a barbarian because not knowing what a nowaday Eisburger is. But I bet my choice was more tasteful and gourmet like
BTW, are they selling Ice-Burger on the other side of the Atlantic too?

I wanted to buy swiss army knives for the twins. A must have was a tick-tool because more nasty ticks arrived with global warming. They spread tick-borne encephalitis. The old local ticks were smaller and you had 12 hours to detect and remove them. The new ticks from south the alpes: three hours.The knife shop owner looked puzzled when I told him that I want blue ones. Noone really buys them he said. I said ever searched a red, yellow, green or black knife in autumn wood? Had to order them, also these little screw drivers for glasses which fit into the cork screwer. And while I was at it, a knife and saw sharpener tool.
The tick tool is the hard to see plastic thing in the right outest

light bulb -> Firefighters
People used to screw very bright light bulbs in the sockets - often too bright like 100Watt in a 40Watt socket. The result was often a cable fire. Not so with LED. A 40W LED is really really bright. In our small village we firefighters exchanged all old bulbs and old two wire-cables into three cable ones for self cost price.

Do you know that Darkmatters is considered a cosmic mystery?
But robbed of its secrets - will Darkmatters still be the same?
While we did a family trip to the opening of Germany's biggest rope bridge just minutes away - ESA started Euclid, a research satellite to find out what dark matter is.

medium rare -> save energy
save energy, eat it raw !!!
Schabefleisch, use a real sharp knife and razor the meat and eat it raw. It is not minced or cut in small pieces, it is really very very fine. Tatar is cut and with egg. Schabefleisch is finer and without egg.

fast -> nearly
In German fast means nearly. So fast-food is nearly food?
Good, cheap: Mettbrötchen They sell for 1€
Not steak, sausage, or burger but Mett is the reason I never will be a vegan.
Germany has very had minced meat laws. So eating raw salade is more a risk.

Dampfnudeln mit Zabaoine, instead the german Weinschaumsosse

Opening of the Skywalk bridge at Willingen today. Just 15 minutes away. And we have tickets for late evening. It is longest rope bridge in central europe. It is above the ski jumping location, which is the biggest worldwide. Bigger hills are considered ski flying and not jumping.

throw up -> boar
Dancing schools give a ball at the end of lessons. Boys have to ask the parents of the girl for allowance. The 13 year old boy came while I was butchering a boar hanging on a tripod. Guess what happened when removing the intestines.

clockwise -> turpentine
Turpentine oil molecules are clockwise orientated in american turpentine but anti-clockwise in french one. I think different trees used. Germany uses traditional a different way of winning the wood oil, using local trees which need a fifferent way of production, called Kienöl.
My heating system uses wood pellets, They are turned into wood gas. The gas drives a capsuled engine. The cooling water heats the house. The engine also generates power Turpentine remains in the wood gas are to be avoided because they crystallize and damage the engine.
Thats why they are called BHKW, Blockheizkraftwerk, block powerplant with heating. They have to be small and capsuled to use nearly all the energy.

ivory billed -> cuckoo
Global warming, the birds which are used by the cuckoo arrive earlier from Africa. When the cuckoo finally arrives there are no eggs in the nests but nestlings. No chance that the birds will raise a late cuckoo nestling. I hear them very rarely now and report the place. There are several projects how to save the cuckoo, one is to capture cuckoo and teach them to breed themself.

diatomaceous earth -> ants
isnt this used as a non toxic ant killer as well
💪
gogo
Yes, you can use it against ants. It sticks to the oil layer on ant skin and they dry out. You can buy an anti-ant bag with 200g for 2€ at a vegan shop, or you can buy 10kg for 11€ at farm supply for you birds or as earth for bonsai trees
ants -> European green woodpecker
What you put in one end of the woodpecker leaves on the other end
Nice birds by the way. We have some near the house and whenever I cut the gras they look for ants.

fluffy -> diatomaceous earth
Quails are fluffy at least the first days when they just escaped the egg. To keep blood sucking insects away I use Kieselgur. In English it has the complicated name above. It is sediment from fossil algae powdered to fine dust. I hate to use insectoids considering that we eat the quail eggs.

fractal -> Apfelmännchen / small apple-people
We call pictures of the Mandelbrot set small apple-people. I remember when we calculated them at school on an old DAI computer. At least I learned to code in 8080 machine code. Which proved to be useful when I repaired the washing machine of my mom by installing a small motherboard with a 8085. The washing machine had lot of possible programs more now
Today I would have used a PI Raspberryi think.
The reason for the name small apple-people

In times of global warning I try to get rid of batteries. Remove them from your TG!!!
If you have no battery the TG can't shoot and tries melee attacks. So you get close for deadly spears and the touch attack used for recharging.
You know, with 5 kids you can't have enough of paranoia. Solar cell, crank, power input, and .... curse .... batteries possible.
