  1. Yep, the trading port does show inbound ships, and if you mouse over the number of ships, it shows what's on board.

I've changed my short-term strategy slightly... after trading notes w/ Llama, I've maxed crystal and will try to get some stone from a nearby island neighbor in trade.

Guess we'll see which of us is ready to start a colony first, Wankers, and decide then which of us does marble or sulphur. What's your sailing time to Llama? (if you click his town like you were going to transport goods to him it will show sailing time) He's 21 hours from me. Might make sense for whoever's closer to do sulphur. Reduce our overall transit time.

  2. I wasn't sure if the 50 of each good was from researching wealth or building a warehouse or what. Took me by surprise. But it was enough to upgrade my academy and town wall a level or two more.

I'll start working on a boat load of crystal to send your way. I figure I'll be right behind Llama on starting a colony, so we'll see about getting you some other resources to pay for vino. :)

  3. I've also been wondering about the possibility of getting a single enemy to split several times.

Something I haven't had the chance to try is having several players try to split an enemy at the same time. This would be done using say about 8-10% split per player and have them use a very weak area of effect CA on a single enemy.

Schot - to best keep track of the original versus the split, try using low level ranged weapons. As you know, the split will appear next to the player. So if you and I stood a little apart and shot arrows at the same orc archer, we could tell if we both got splits. To maximize the probability of split, I'd have a high attack rating but a very low damage rating (like a level 20 toon using a level 5 bow).

And I concur w/ Sil about past discussions of having an entire party wearing sunglasses. Nightwolfe would be someone to query about as I seem to recall she was among those who've played w/ them. My recollection of the discussion was that if at least x number of people were partied and wearing shades then 1) there is a visible aura and 2) there is an experience boost. I don't remember if it can be a party of just one or two classes or if it's something silly like having one of each class. And I don't remember exactly how many must be in a party and wearing sunglasses before the effects occur.

  4. So I've decided this game has elements of Age of Empires and Stronghold in it, only it has limited graphics (meaning static, not moving). But... it's much slower than those to keep it more fair on the whole MMO side of it (meaning one player can't stay up all night and overrun the whole world). Heck, I doubt you could overrun much in less than a month.

Llama, when you get ready to send out a colony, let me know if you go marble or sulphur and I'll do the other right behind you.

  5. hmmm well I still dont know exactly what I should be doing but I've built a research center type thingy and have now started upgrading to level 2 for my city

Wankers, I sent you a reply in game... I'll post the bulk of it here in case anyone else decides to play and wants the quick start suggestions I gave you.

First step is send max workers to the saw mill.

    Next start building an academy.

After academy is built, recall all workers from mill, assign max workers to academy and then put just enough workers at saw mill so net gold is about zero. (Research should be on economy first until you complete "wealth")

Start upgrading academy to level 3 to accelerate research, keep # of researchers maxed.

Adjust number of workers at saw mill to keep net gold near zero.

Then upgrade town center to level 3.

At some point you'll want a barracks and some slingers (haven't figured out the whole warfare and pillaging thing; Llama's done more w/ it than I have, and from his results it sounds like you mainly need them for defense at first).

I'll work towards making embassies, which will let us start an alliance.

As Wankers has the only vines so far (and I'm guess we need vines to make wine) then Wankers will be in charge of getting wine production going.

Llama and I will work towards getting a couple colonies so we can get a foothold on islands with marble and sulphur (need marble for certain buildings and need sulphur for higher level combat units).

  6. Think this may be fun... only needs a few minutes every couple of hours to keep things on course... actions can take anywhere from a few minutes to a number of hours to complete (like upgrading a building or doing research), so can go away and come back later.

Edit: Llama and I both have crystal on our islands. If anyone is in Gamma, let us know what resource is on your island (like vines, crystal, marble or sulphur) and we'll see what sort of trading alliance we can work out.

  7. :( Sure Gogo, I delegate Knuckles to build a max Banish toon and report back to us.

Seriously, K, if you're looking to try this, I'd be interested to know if Banish Undead stacks w/ undead pots. If it does what I suspect, should get some nasty damage.

  8. Oh no, it helps in MP too. It boosts damage vs undead significantly. You can test this very easily w/ the undead pots. Remove any crit or anything that makes damage vary greatly, then measure damage versus same type of enemy w/ and w/out pots (I like zombies as they're mostly identical). W/ undead pot will have higher damage.

Could probably get some wicked damage w/ combination of banish undead mod and an undead pot.

Note: Gogo is correct that in SP, both banish undead and the undead pots have the additional feature of making skeletons stay dead on the first kill instead of rising back up 2-3 times. But still get the damage boost in MP.

  9. Cyclops - my experience in my last job was somewhat similar. In an annual review I asked for metrics to achieve a promotion. The next year I documented how I'd met those. I was promised a promotion (which meant a 10% raise). Shortly after it was announced that our corporate headquarters would be moved to another city. The rumors slowly added up over time about personnel actions being denied at the old office. After a year and a half of not receiving my promotion and then being the target of "forced ranking" (like a bell curve, where someone has to be perfect and someone has to be horrible), I finally resigned.

I at least got back a little because I gave 2 months notice and they let me go a full 1.5 months early w/ full pay. So I was getting paid by them for an entire month that I was working somewhere else.

My advice is what you already know (I picked up on your three strikes)... if the pres doesn't put things right, then go find a different job where they'll treat you better. Not worth being unhappy and you've been there several years so a change won't look too bad on your resume... just portray it as "you wanted to get back into a supervisory role and your position wasn't really suited to that career path".

  10. A pax file is a character file. It will take one of the 8 slots on the character selection screen. If you currently have characters saved in all 8 slots, then you need to rename one of them. The files are name like Hero0.pax The files are numbered 0-7 for slots 1-8. Then put the downloaded pax file into your save folder.

If you haven't already read Prism's Master SP Guide, you should as it explains using a local lan co-op game to make drops for yourself, allowing you to transfer the equipment to another character.

  11. One thing to weigh in the make it or buy it decision is how much does the manufacturer's warranty and support matter to you. I've gotten four year warranties from Dell on my two most recent computers. When I priced the difference between making it and buying it, the warranty was often the main difference in price and I decided to spend the extra money for it.

  12. Hello all,

So this is my application to play Sacred as a member of FDM. Knuckles and I are applying on the same day as we've been playing together for roughly a year and a half and decided to make this transition together. As many of you know, Knuckles and I have played under the tag MC, which started from a personal joke of Knuckles and was later declared to stand for Misguided Companions. We really were just a group that played at the same time and were more of a club than what I would consider a clan (heck, rule one was there are no rules). Anyway, as Sacred 2 is approaching, we've stopped to assess where we're at and decided that the days of MC had passed. We then surveyed the landscape and thought of the people we know in Dark and looked at the Dark forum and the SacredWiki and, well, we like what we see.

My personal hope is to find a great group of people to hang with when playing and to find a place where people like to explore the game and share what they learn with others. FDM's sponsorship and commitment to SacredWiki really tells the overall Sacred community that this is a group that wants to share their knowledge. And the absence of the rigid rules and heirarchy present in some other clans was a big factor, showing me that FDM is about the group and about playing the game (and not about someone's power trip).

What do I have to offer FDM? Well, that's fair to ask. I have hundreds of hours of Sacred game time, both SP and MP. I started with the very original unpatched version and have been thru them all. I took a short break after Plus and then came back when Underworld was released. That's when I first started posting on the SIF and ventured into the MP world. I played softcore at first but, due to the many great HC players on the SIF, I moved there and haven't looked back. I'm currently in the top 10 posters on the SIF with over 1,100 posts. All of which is knowledge of and experience with the game that I hope to bring to FDM.

Thanks for taking the time to read my application.

    Sincerely,

    Mike aka masteff

  13. After you, first player, have collected your reward the second character should reject the quest.

That's trick for getting him to set up shop some place remote (Knuckles and I were trying on the island). I made the mistake of rejecting the quest before Knuckles had come back to the island, so the guy jumped back to Knuckles. Now we know that player #1 has to return to player #2 and complete the quest to lock the merchant.

Can anyone think of any other NPC followers who do something special (like turn into something or drop something) that it would be worth trying the two person trick on?
