My XBox will not read any disks any more

Sometimes when I get a new game I have to scratch it a little by rubbing it on some surface so my Xbox will read it, I had to do the same thing when I had a PS2 -
I am currently readin Flight of the Nigth Hawks by Raymond E. Fiest.
