Game client has stopped working

I wonder if anyone out there knows exactly that error message means. I had been getting it early on in my Sacred 2 life, never before with any other game I have played. This would happen on line and off line (single player). I think it was here it was suggested to me to tone down my video setting which I did. The problem stopped for what seems months. Then this weekend I had it pop up maybe three times with in several minutes. I was playing single player. My laptop runs Vista for what its worth. I mean my gaming life has not been all that extensive, but Diablo (all legal interactions) Hellgate London, Mythos, some of the Command and Conquer stuff, Age of Empires, and only with Sacred 2 did I get this message. Please tell me what is it trying to tell me. Thanks.

I think it has something to do with the way the game creates/runs the different games...even though you may play single player it actually creates a server for you locally which allows someone to drop in if you need help. This is done by the game client and I guess if that hangs up then you crash.

Try adding -skipopenal to your shortcut to start game. it should look something like this "C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel\system\sacred2.exe" -skipopenal. Make sure there is a space before -skipopenal.

 

If that doesn't work make sure your audio and video drivers are up to date

Thanks for the replies. I will check into the upgrades as soon as I am able. Knuckles, what does skipopenal do? Just curious .

IIRC it's Creative Labs 3D audio API

 

I checked on the SIF for the error you're getting and it seems that adding -skipopenal fixed it for some

I almost have the same problem and I think I have tried everything....

 

Me and my friend started playing some chars on closed net, and in the start there wasnt really a problem. Then after some time I think acouple of hours he started getting kicked out of the game, saying Game client has stopped working. And as time went by, it happened more and more.

 

A few days went where we didnt play, but then we started again, this time it was me getting kicked out more and more often. At last I couldnt stay in the multiplayer game for more than one minut.

 

we can play all the closed net we want, we just get kicked out if we play it together...

 

We tried updating all video and sound software,we have patch 2.4, writing -skipopenal, empying the temporary sacred 2 folder, upgrading the pagefile, and running as xp and such....

 

We have all the recommended hardware....and really dont understand...

 

anyone who can help:)
