Ranged Weapons Skill Question

So the ranged weapons skill says its for "equiped" ranged weapons.. Now I was told to level ranged weapon skills to help my BeeFeeGee, but the BFG is a BUFF, so b4 I go wasting skill points I want to find out if the BFG counts as a ranged weapon?

BFG is a Ranged Weapon and gives you a great boost in ranged weapon skill

BFG is a buff that creates a ranged weapon. The buff determins the level & damage of the weapon & certain mods on the weapon (dependant on what mods you choose for the buff), the buff also gives you a nice big +Ranged Weapons bonus, so most people ignore putting points in Ranged Weapons for the most part. A BFG seraphim is probably the only build where I'd take a weapons-specific skill before anything else (since this will allow you to actually use the high level BFG weapon that you're getting from putting loads of points in the buff without any attack speed malus).
