Sirius 16
For months now, I have been trying to play this game with a little bit of dignity. That means non-choppy gameplay and just a joyride through Ancaria.. First, I bought Sacred 2 for PC. That didn't go very well, as I had some serious issues with the installation. I finally made it to 100% without any hickups, and was of course dancing in childish joy. Then began the eternal quest for the right patches. After a couple of days searching the internet, I finally found just the ones. I installed the patches, and was ready for an adventure! I soon realised that my adventure would be somewhat.. slow. My 1500 dollar laptop clearly could not bear the weight of Sacred 2 on the lowest graphics setting. After a couple of weeks crying in my windowpane, I finally took to my senses and purchased the game for my Playstation 3. Oh joy! Earlier today, with trembling hands, I put the disc into my console. Could this be it? Would I spend the rest of my holiday in euphoria? I finally started playing as a shadow warrior in the crypt. This looks very fun! I loved the first impression. It looked flawless and clean, and the combat system was alot of fun. Then I heard something terrible amassing itself within my beloved console.. The INFAMOUS jet-engine fan starting to spin like crazy deep in the bowels of my PS3. The noise was unbearable. I quickly tossed myself over my laptop and roamed thoroughly through google for answers: "Some versions of PS3 was delivered with a 15-blade fan that was made in China. These are bad at running you PS3 and keeping it cool during gaming. There is a way out, though: You can buy a 19-bladed Sony original fan that is MUCH better at it's job, and keeps the noise at an ultrasonic level.." With that knowledge I quickly dissected my Playstation 3, and started digging like crazy. After a while I finally reached the "fan", and to my surprise it was completely free of dust. I carefully counted the blades on the fan.. 13, 14, 15... MADE IN CHINA! How can Sony do this to people? This monstrosity alone is responsible for putting many happy gamers into straight-jackets. I only hope I will be able to get a fan that has 19 beautiful blades that will transform my personal jet into a distant, shimmering crystal in the night. That being said, I look forward to playing this game ONCE AND FOR ALL! - Best regards.. (I would wave to you, but the straight-jacket.. well, you know..) Link to comment
essjayehm 58
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh That fan is the sound of death. My PS3 bit it (again) last week, trying to play in 30 C heat... teh fan comes on and then I shut down... got 4 or 5 days in a row quitting after 45 mins-1 hour, then on the 5th day.... freeze. Freeze. FREEZE. Currently it is enroute to Sony for repair ($170 Cdn), but I have again lost everything. I should've listened to my inner voice, but now you can listen to my outer voice: Don't play if that jet engine noise starts emanating from your beloved blu-ray playin' machine. Sorry it is too late for ya, Sirius, but your story put the evil grin of recognition on my face... love the roflcopter! Link to comment

Sarcolemming 8
All I can think of is either this is a ps3 slim issue, cause my old fatty has no "jet engine" even though I can clearly hear the fan, it's really not so bad when I'm blasting away at kobolds for kicks and giggles(a far louder and more appealing sound). Or the other option, you've really gone off the deep end. I mean straight into the looney bin, hit the factory at 8 in the morning and didn't come home till the blue cows showed up. Yup, you lost the last few nuts in your meat grinder and have hit the wagon towards happy town. I really hope you guys feel better with the new "fan" but I'm afraid no amount of kobold bashing, however ego-maniacally satisfying it may be, will solve your present issue. Cheers though, Link to comment
Sirius 16
Great replies, folks. If you get this hideous noise, it is best just to shut it down. Dissecting the PS3 was actually kinda easy. It is a very neat console on the inside, as well as on the outside. You don't really need a youtube-guide to open it. Perhaps I should make a topic here about opening the PS3. Just know this: Be careful when dissasembling it! There are alot of small plastic hooks and stuff around that could break just by breathing on them. Also, the fan lies in the deepest part of your PS3. The console cannot be opened from the bottom up. You have to open it from the top. After you have removed all of the instestines, you will eventually reach the fan. Changing the fan is very easy. It is held down by three screws only, that are staring right at you. After removing this, the only thing you have to do next, is to pull out wire that's giving your fan it's power. Also, if you have alot of dust inside it, it is adviceable that you use a vacuum-cleaner and suck it clean. Now then.. the hunt for the perfect fan. If you find one the is 19-bladed and made in Japan, please tell me. Like I said, these ones will do a much better job at cooling your PS3. - Best regards! Edit: To Sarcolemming; All of the Slim's were delivered with a 17-bladed fan. If you get this noise from your PS3-Slim, I would highly recommend a vacuum-cleaner, or an exorcist. Scleameth 19
I think I know exactly what you're going through! I also had the PC version of Sacred 2 and my pc just was not up to the task. I gave it to a friend and played a while there, but it's just difficult to go visit and play regularly. OK, over to the PS3 then (finally!). Well my hard drive failed about 2 months ago and I took it in for repairs, but the policy here in SA (mebbe internationally?) is that "they" don't repair your system but replace it with a refurbished system, supposedly all new parts. Well, the refurbished system was just a slow piece of junk (It took about 3 minutes just to start up! and game freezes like crazy) and I took it back for replacement. I thought it might take a week or so.... 3 weeks and waiting I might get it back on Tuesday but I'm not overly enthusiastic.... Link to comment
Sirius 16
Oh, now that just makes my blood boil, Scleameth! There are ALOT of crooked shops out there that just wants to make an extra piece of money. The fact that your system took long to start up tells me two things: They either replaced the parts in your PS3 with cheaper, less effective ones, OR they can't fix for SH*T, and ruined your PS3. Either way, YOU as a buyer has all the rights here. This mess reminds me of my cousins PS1 back in the day: It stopped working so they took it to the shop to repair it. Stupid as they were at the time, they delivered it WITH the two original PS1-controllers that came with the console when they bought it. After a vast number of weeks, they finally got it back, but the two genuine controllers had been replaced with two "made in taiwan" controllers that was no good at all! We were too young to hatch a devious plan of retribution, and it still angers me to this day. Crooked people are everywhere. Stand up to your rights, and tan their hide if you must! Link to comment

Scleameth 19
Well, if the next unit is not 100% as I would like it, I'm gonna fight for my money back. This would actually be my first choice, since I bought it as a combo with NFS Shift. So I'd get a game and a new controller out of the deal - but I won't feel a tad bit louzy about it, 'cause of all the time, call charges and fuel money spent these past 2 months! Link to comment
wintermane 0
Ok just to pour salt into your wound. I am playing this game on mid settings... On a cheapo 400 buck laptop I got. Works wonderfully and.. The fan is completely silent too.... specs? My notebook has the ati 4200 with 128 megs of its own mem and shared mem too. Uses only a 2 ghz m100 amd cpu. But it does have 3 gig of ram. Dang slow harddtive tho. For some reason this puppy manages to play most all the games well... sept grand theft 4 it played that real slow. Link to comment

Sarcolemming 8
Edit: To Sarcolemming; All of the Slim's were delivered with a 17-bladed fan. If you get this noise from your PS3-Slim, I would highly recommend a vacuum-cleaner, or an exorcist. Well if that's the case I must have one of the legendary 19 bladed fans. Never heard a jet engine from my ps3, so I guess if someone posted an audio clip of it I might be able to compare. That said, good luck on the hunt, I apparently got lucky with my big bertha. x) Link to comment

On this video the person launches a "Fan test" on his PS3. It is mainly used for blowing dust out of the console, and from my experience, it works. Some people say that this test may harm the system, though I believe that to be just a rumor, and nothing more but bullsh*t. If you have a PS3-slim, Sarcolemming, I would recomend that you do not disassemble your PS3 if there is nothing wrong with it. The slim is a newer and improved version of the old PS3, and it should work just fine, as long as you don't beat it with a baseball bat. Link to comment

It's far quieter and sounds well... way quieter. Although I can see the comparison to a jet engine now, ty for the vid. ^^ So indeed those that have such a noisey fan should definitely go ahead and shoot for the awesome-sauce fans x) Link to comment
