It's only necessary if you've previously had 2.43 installed and have saved games that were created with 2.43. As in you're sidegrading from the US version of 2.43 to the UK version so you can install Ice and Blood. Ice and Blood will install on top of 2.40 without problems - so long as you don't have any saved games. Link to comment
