The nearby (30 minutes with a motorbike in my case ) manufacturer of the Rohloff Speedhub gearbox says that, even they produce an adapter (above picture) for the carbon drive, you have to be really really careful with carbon drives.

Small invisible damage to the carbon drive might result in a sudden rupture and severe accidents.

 

So our Speedhubs still have normal chains. We live mid in forest with many hills and the risc that a twig or stone may damage the carbondrive is just to high. The reason for the Speedhub is that you can change gears while standing uphill at a red traffic light, even only 14 gears they are all different and nicely placed, not as with a 3*8 where you have just 12 real gears normally, life long guarantee, damage to chain is less probabby because of no chaincage, a centered gearbox is symmetric, less risc of wheel damage, ...

 

We are considering something like this with a Speedhub for our 8 year olf daughter:
