  1. Here are a couple I made about 3 years ago ( the gimp has made major updates since then, much better features, IMHO) This was back when I played Lineage2 on the Gustin server --Russ edit: the image quality sucks for these because of size limit I had to put on them
  2. The thing about the GIMP is that it has all the same functionality as Photoshop but is just located in different places or has different shorcuts (keystrokes) to access those functions. I would recommend an online tutorial for it to learn the ropes GIMP tutorials from beginner to expert --Russ
  3. I am glad that you are picking up on the program quickly. It is alot harder to use than photoshop but 1. Its free and 2. It has some very powerful scripting functions. Hey, if you decide to learn the python programming language you can make your own tool too. I have been using the gimp since 1.0 ( which has been like 4-5 years I think) anyhoo ( I think I have been rambling) , long live the opensource revolution --Russ
  4. Lol, they would be some pretty ugly pictures, but everyone was so hung over the next day that cameras were sparse. It was good fun though!
  5. you bet I can't wait until it comes out !!111!one!one1one!
  6. omg I am having major flashbacks now... must have ...new ...starcraft ...game
  7. Google Memcheck software Just as a heads up you should get one of the free memory checker software packages from google, they should fit on a floppy and can save you tons of time diagnosing memory problems. Also make sure that when you upgrade your memory in the future that you match the exact type of ram you have now, because your system can do one of two things: either destroy one of the sticks (or more) or only run as fast as the slowest stick of ram you have. Just a suggestion based on my experience with the custom comps I have built. --Russ
  8. I also have never messed with calibration software and just stuck with adjusting the RGB values to around 70%. Take a look at this article, it has some useful info on calibration and some software suggestions Montor Calibrations and reviews --Russ
  9. That is indeed what I was talking about, it is an open-source imaging software program which IMHO could be proprietary if they wanted it to be. If you can't get photoshp anymore I would suggest using it. It is a fantastic bit o' software.
  10. What are you using for your editing software? I use the gimp now for all of my avatars and sigs (used to use photoshop but don't have a license for it now) . I find that even though the gimp had a larger learning curve it had some really great features that even photoshop didn't have. --Russ
  11. I'll take a cold one please, its almost friday and It has been another long week.

    Linux

Yes there are (mutella, QTella...), I just don't use them or know which ones the best. They have bittorrent clients for linux as well. I am sure a quick google will turn up quite a few results.

    Linux

With Ubuntu you can install it one of two ways. First you can check the synaptic package manager under the admin menu and search for the plugin. or you can follow these instructions which involve some commands via the terminal. Install flash in opera (its not as scary as people make it out to be. ) As for the web chat and camera. Gaim should work just fine, although I have never used web cams before so I am just assuming. If gaim does not support the web cam features then you should search under the synaptic package manager for web cam and see what programs turn up. hope that helped. --Russ
  14. Its Saturday and I haven't asked for a drink yet. Since this has been such a long week (alot of flying) I need something strong...any suggestions?

    Linux

This is why any software I develop is open-source. (Long live the free software revolution). Almost any game can be emulated on Linux, it just takes some finesse. I havent come across a game I haven't been able to emulate yet. (unfortunatly sometimes I pay about two months worth of subscriptions before I get it 100% working) but any game is possible if you understand how to work within a unix/linux enviornment. --Russ
  16. Your welcome for the suggestion. As for your desktop, looks clean ( I love a very minimal desktop ). Is that your child? He looks very cute and energetic. --Russ

    Linux

I would definitly recommend the Ubuntu Distrobution (Feisty Fawn 7.04) It is a great distro to learn linux as it has many GUI tools that normally would be done on the terminal. It also comes with great driver support including wireless. Beryl is a little more difficult to configure because it involves alot of tweaking of your graphics. I would just stick with gnome for a bit to "learn the ropes" then move on. (In my opinion Beryl had some nice eye candy but was a hassle because it is still relatively new and crashed often while switching between my Desktops). If you get bored of ubuntu and really want to learn the behind the scenes part of linux I would then recommend a stripped down version ( such as zenwalk or gentoo) and build a custom system. Good luck and keep the questions comming. --Russ
  18. its on the keyboard, but if your keyboard doesn't have it you can use an imaging software such as gimp and take a screen capture with that.

    Linux

Well almost any game that uses openGL can or is web based, wine is available for linux too. Unfortunately directX3d is proprietary (most newer games) so no go for linux on that. But I was able to get Oblivion running on linux But you can always dual boot
