  1. Ok, what I did was a complete revalidation of the game in Steam. It replaced 88 files totaling 145 MB. Reinstalled the Community Patch & Elite Trimmed, so far I've been able to play my Seraphim without issue for the last ten hours. Edit: I tracked it down to a missing particle effect for Warding Energy (and similar Shield buffs). How I tested before I redid the above: Copied out my saves, ran with Warding Energy until I hit the issue (I could reliably get it to happen within a single 2-4 hr play session), then copied my saves back over after I ALT-F4'd the game, ran without Warding Energy for 8 hrs, never had the issue. After I did the above "reinstall", I have not had the issue repeat after this even with Warding Energy or similar running. Note: This also happened with other characters that had any sort of activated Shield, such as Barkskin, which is why it affected my Dryad too. Note to self: Do not hit the attack, run, and casting speed caps ever again.
  2. It is possible if you have two PCs running a copy of Sacred 2, each with their own HDMI/DisplayPort output to a tv and you play a LAN game (I do this with my wife on weekends). We have two network-capable 32" Samsung tvs we got just for the purpose of "couch gaming" in games that were not designed for split-screen co-op or have otherwise had everything but LAN matches get shut down for various reasons. Be warned, we also had to use wireless keyboards and mice because I can't get Sacred 2 Gold to work with any of my Xbox controllers, even with remapping software.
  3. Yes, like how I am still trying to figure out how and why several of the exact same item can, and often does, drop when you kill an NPC. Or why you can randomly run up onto the top of tents OR spawn on top of the "save towers". Or how some glowing, clickable boxes don't actually open when you click on them and then have no locked icon (Seraphim Island comes to mind here). We won't go into the weirdness of NPC AI.
  4. My RAM is fine (I run MEMTest86 overnight every 6 months). Running it from a Samsung EVO Solid State drive (It has TRIM and all of the goodies). It's definitely a texture issue, not sure exactly which. What I should do, is copy my saves out, and just reinstall the game. I'd rather have it blank in terms of progress than being locked out from a difficulty entirely because it's partway through and refuses to load.
  5. Yeah, I've been thinking of doing that, it seems like a good idea in general to back up the save folder period. I think I've tracked the issue down to being a missing/corrupted/incomplete texture being saved from the stored game state in RAM to the save file. One other thing I've considered doing, is creating a "clone" of these characters using the character editor, and transferring over their gear and stash (via the common stash), because this bug doesn't affect loading the save into a multiplayer game, just singleplayer on whatever difficulty the bug occurred on. Something I have yet to try: Starting in multiplayer on the difficulty I get "stuck" in when this happens, progressing on some quests and seeing if that can sort of reset the save in some fashion back in singleplayer. Usually I just go into multiplayer for easy access to the vendor and whatnot on Niobium.
  6. Has anyone else run into a weird situation, where you save your game and exit just fine, but when you try to load the save file, it starts to load, but the screen stays black and eventually the game CTD's? I've had it happen a few times (only on Seraphim, Dryad, and High Elf Mage, oddly, played all the way to Niobi on my DM, Inquisitor, and TG without this happening), and my workaround (and the only way I've found so far) of keeping that "character", is to change to any other difficulty than what you were playing. Of course you lose all progress you had made on your save, which is annoying. If you have, and have found a better "fix" than I have, please feel free to share, heh.
  7. Yes, what you should be doing: Install Steam to Drive C:, then in your Steam Settings, create a Steam Folder on another drive, then install your games there. Permissions in Win10 are much stricter than in previous versions and even Admin isn't really Admin anymore, coupled with programs installed to the same drive as Windows facing much tighter restrictions than previously in Win8 or earlier.
  8. And here I have a few Kal'Durs in my bank but can't seem to find the pieces for all of my Seraphim sets (I also have a few each of things like Magisil). Still missing two pieces each of the Infinite Revenge and Sofia's Benevolence sets and I've been grinding and grinding.... (have all other Seraph sets completed but those two). As for having to portal around a bit, I don't mind doing that because it gives me a chance to farm all of the Champs on the way to the Dragons. Between my Dryad and my Seraph mowing down large groups is a cakewalk. I don't do the same on the more single-target focused classes and I haven't cared for the High Elf so far either.
  9. Finally, finally finished it, yay. Got the NIF Lightsaber and the regular goodies. Pewpewpew. Now my Platinum journey has begun, this time taking the Bugs! quest.
  10. My first few were probably The Magic Candle, Akalabeth (which is the game BEFORE Ultima 1), The Bard's Tale Trilogy and then later on things like Diablo and Aquanox.
  11. I think that's a display bug, the DR on anything like that is way above rank 5 or 6.
  12. Better off farming dragons on Niobi than Nameless, they drop more items on death from what I've noticed. Swamp Dragon and T-Energy Dragon is an easy farm. That being said, I was getting a few just from farming Champ class enemies in the Dryad area and in Crystal Planes.
  13. One thing to make sure of, you are not installing it to anywhere in Program Files or the base C: drive where Windows is installed. I have had no end of headaches installing games to even a Steam folder on the same drive where Windows is actually installed.
  14. Thank you, because this is the place where the Wiki says he is (even matching the wagon and grass), but if I go to where the quest marker points in game, I can see his pointer off in the "black area" on the minimap. His coordinates are definitely set to be in a cave area of some type.
  15. I am sort of stuck on this, looking for Dag Winderlich, which according to SacredWiki should be standing by the wagon near the vendor that is close to Twitty Tister (south of East Turbak) but he is not there and the map pointer directs me to enter Giganthropod's area, and of course he is not in there either. On the world map, his quest marker appears between the bar and Gigan's claw. In fact, he isn't there with or without the CM Patch 1.60 applied (sitting there on more than one toon). Oh which rock did you decide to hide under, Dag.
  16. Hey Thrive, do me a favor, if it still isn't running, check the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages related for Sacred 2, in particular, look for LaptopGaming_xp.dll, if there are any, go into your Sacred 2 folder and rename that thing LaptopGaming_xp.dll.bak and then try starting the game again.
  17. Interesting.....that .dll shouldn't even be getting loaded unless you are in fact running on a laptop (and my guess is with Intel Integrated Graphics), no wonder you were getting a black screen, the damned thing was trying to access an IGPU you didn't have.
  18. Out of curiosity, do you have DirectX 9.0c installed? If not, try that as well, this game requires it. Also, the LegacyPhysX driver I was referring to earlier is the one from here: https://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0604-legacy-driver.html (Ignore what cards it says it works with, mine is way newer than those listed and it still installs and works).
  19. Part of the issue lies in the install.vdf file. Mine started to the black screen and wouldn't go further until I did three things: Drop the refresh rate on my system to 60hz/disable GSync, disable Full Screen Optimizations, and then delete install.vdf, followed by creating an empty text file in the Sacred 2 directory, renaming it install.vdf, then setting it to Read Only. I have the Sacred 2 Gold Edition from Steam, and it now runs perfectly fine on Win10 64-bit Pro.
  20. I wanted to say thank you for the wonderful games. I am sad that Ascaron is no more, but I love the Sacred games.

    1. Mare

      Mare

I would like to do so too. Thanks.

  21. Interesting series. I've been curious about some of this and had the feeling that stacking certain things was just OP, and turns out I was right. Since I use Lightsabers mainly, I stack Willpower using assigned stat points vs the other stats, and in my gear I put as much +Vit/Stam/Life Leech/Enemy Evade/Mitigation and Shielding as I can. I took Warding Energy and Concentration and run my two Warding buffs (BeeEffGee is garbage in Sacred 2 compared to Sacred 1, as is Cleansing Brilliance), along with Dashing Alacrity. Manually attacking everything, bosses drop in a very few hits, I think the Golem took the most hits, everything else dies in one or two (especially Goblins, they are one-hitters). I use the Revelations of the Seraphim set because two pieces (instead of just the wings in the Ein set) have mitigation + the full set gives Leech Life % (and it looks damned good, the most important part). My alternate weapon set is the Remnants of Drizzt set, (I have the full set of that too) and it's hilarious how fast you swing those at max attack speed. In fact the reason I have that set is that nice spider quest in Ulli's Potato Field, killing the champ spiders dropped both Icingdeath and Twinkle. I'm only level 98 in Gold currently, and am sitting on 20,783 hp (+Vit/HP jewelry in gold slots, giving me around 730 Vitality total from gear + 8k bonus HP), and 83.6k energy in my shield. How survivable am I? I let my character sit in front of Shelob while I took ten minutes to flip laundry and my shield wasn't even gone, let alone my health.
  22. Make sure you are running the game as Administrator too, forgot that one. It won't run without Admin rights. I also can't get the game to run faster than 60hz, so if you're using 144hz, GSync, etc, all of that should be off.
  23. A few things: A) Go to the nVidia website, get the LegacyPhysX driver, and install it. B) Go to your Sacred 2 install directory, and the System subdirectory, and set compatibility mode for both sacred2.exe and s2gs.exe to Vista Service Pack 2 C) Delete installscript.vbf from the Sacred 2 install directory D) Install the Community Patch 1.60 E) Install the Elite Textures Pack F) In Steam, under Launch Properties, type -nocpubinding Sacred 2 should now start (this is exactly how I got it to run on Win10 64-bit Pro). Once at the start menu, go into Options and disable PhysX. It seems counterintuitive, but the way PhysX is implemented in this game causes no end of headaches and random CTDs, but the game requires the LegacyPhysX driver to even run. I also found it better (as in the game is far more stable) to disable everything such as AA in the options, and force AA, etc from the nVidia Control Panel instead (obviously make a profile for Sacred 2). It may or not be beneficial to turn on VSync, it really depends, and you'll have to experiment. My refresh is 60hz to begin with, but with VSync & Triple Buffering enabled I get a steady framerate with very limited lag from texture buffering when the game is caching new area info, such a when you enter a large city.
  24. I use Toughness/Constitution/Speed Lore/Damage Lore/Dual Wield, with Blacksmithing and Enhanced Perception, and pay little attention to my CA's overall outside of the perm buff and Dashing Alacrity, because my crazy self will run in (high run speed is godly in this game) and just hack things (I have extremely high LL). Not sure if taking Sword Lore would be of any benefit or not for me due to item modifier unlocks. I also dump a higher percentage of my stat points into Willpower and Strength instead of Stamina and Vitality, so it looks more like 50% Willpower, 25% Str, 10% Vitality, 10% Stamina, the remaining 5% are just Dex dumps for the flat defense bonus. What might help is if you put at lest one Atamark's into your gear in some place because it gives a very large armor bonus to several elements at once, followed by completing relic runewords instead of stacking lesser "plain" relics.
  25. So, deletion seems to be the better solution, do we delete everything from tokens = { to the second }, or just the part that says "et_mult_weapondamage", 1000, 0, 0, 9 ? I ask if you get rid of the entire section there since there will be no defined entry0, rendering the rest invalid anyhow.
