gogoblender 3,071
I just heard last night that a few of my friends were going to see this film, I'll be honest and say that it escaped my radar. Okay, off to Apple Trailers to see what all the fuss is about. gogo Link to comment
soldats 0
I'm watching it again tomorrow...it's that good. this is a veiled social commentary beneath the sfx and action/violence.... and you probably won't believe that the movie only cost 30million usd to make... Link to comment
Flooxim 49
Saw it last night, and it was really good. Like soldats said : "go watch this....right now" Max Link to comment
Scarecroww 0
Wow... just wow. Just saw it and I think it jumps straight into my top 10 movies list. It hasn't really sunk in yet but wow... that was an AMAZING film! Everybody who hasn't - go watch it right now, one way or another.... PS. like the reviewer on IGN said it was really effective to not know much at all about the film. I pretty much only knew the name, genre and that it had been getting great review scores. And as a result, it blew my mind. So don't go research too much about it so some stuff might get spoiled. Edit: If I were you, I wouldn't even watch a trailer or review, just watched some right now and they spoil way too much. Damn I'm glad I did not watch any of them before I watched the movie. soldats 0
I've seen it twice and might go a third time now. the director actually has a short film[2005] that d9 is based off of. time to go watch it.... I thought the thinly veiled social commentary on apartheid was quite amazing. that he used prawns as a vehicle to represent the racially undesirable humans and we sympathize/empathize with them[meant to anyway] is testament to great storytelling ability. this ranks up there with city of god, mystic river, 21 grams...and a few other greats with the right balance of character depth/motivation, plot device, action and importantly...an understandable outcome/ending. and I would even say that d9 is a polished up version of schindler's list. you have the archetypal jesus figure wickus/oskar and the persecution/genocide of an entire race that is based on the grounds that they are different and contaminants of society. anyway, I'm going into my literary theory spiel on colonialism and the other.... hsedai 0
be honest will it be scary? I tend to scream like a little girl and gesticulate at the screen while yelling "Oh Lawd, ah don't know nuthin bout birthin no babies" when I got scared. My wife then escorted me out of the theater and I can't watch "A Bug's Life" again. Link to comment
FrostElfGuard 9
The film is social commentary... there is action and suspense. What I found best about the film is the background... fresh in that it was filmed in SA. Everyone appearing is SAn. Interesting accents. I had thought I was going to a mindless action flick... so didn't get what I expected whatsoever. It was tough to watch for me. I felt so helpless--I sympathized with the prawns. (prawn one of those words where singular and plural are the same? Or is prawn already plural?) Link to comment
Llama8 8
We saw this on DVD over the weekend & though it was fairly slow starting, it was quite amusing in places (sorry, but the alien weapon that makes people explode & the bit where the mech throws the pig were funny, even if they weren't supposed to be). And I can definitely see humans doing all the bad bits in the film (keeping the aliens in shanty towns, dissecting them, etc). Edit: Oh yeah, and what soldats said... Link to comment
Timotheus 416
Excellent movie, watched this today along with Law Abiding Citizen. I had my hopes up the other way round though, I was really looking forward to the latter but it was a big let-down, and District 9 was a darn good movie. Link to comment
