New to the Game - Questions regarding Runes

Recommended Posts

Hello guys!

Im new to the game (level 6 highelf) and have some questions..

* First I saw a review on youtube about the game and they mentioned something about NOT using runes as soon as you get them. Why not? ive read something about "penalty" if you max them or something.

he talks about it at 08:30 incase you wanna hear it.

As im new im not all into the gamelanguage, but any useful info/tips for a noob would be great  thanks in advance and sorry for terrible english ^^

Hi Saltsten, welcome to DarkMatters!

There's a very comprehensive page on runes in SacredWiki on runes here:

Have a read, and if you have any more questions after, don't hesitate to post.

Cheers

p.s Great article on Highest Combat Art Level without Penalty here:

Ok thanks for that mate!

A few more things

* Can you respecc talents/skills? Im suspecting not and thats of course not a problem, UNLESS it's really crucial that you pick the right talent/skills. For example: im going fire elf and thats just a horrible build on later stages. Im wondering about this cause I just wanna (mostly) explore everything about the game on my own(+with a friend) not you know.. reading forums 24/7 so we wont get instagibbed . If you get my point =D

Ive read a few threads here and there and the game seems pretty complicated in a way that you know, pick one thing wrong and you get smashed^^ Gah, well im noob so could be totally wrong but yeah, some thoughts.

There is no respec for skill selection, skill point allocation, or CA rune consumption.

There are also very few "must have skills" that will completely kill a build if you make some suboptimal selections.

If you have a basic understanding of the regen system, attributes, and a basic understanding of how to boost spells versus weapon damage you will be doing fine.

Remeber to have offensive and defensive skills in your builds.

Also there is a lot of information out there (and helpful people) to answer any questions that come up along the way.

Have fun!

You can't respec in any way.

It definitely is a game where choices are permanent, and it's possible to make a character that is... less effective than it could have been.

Sometimes weaknesses are what make the character interesting -- and often they are not really weaknesses, and can be compensated or taken advantage of through equipment, tactics/playstyles, and future choices.

Some "mistakes" are no big deal -- reading the wrong or too many runes for instance, is eventually made up for by raising skills and getting regen-lowering equipment. Others are more permanent -- you only ever get to choose 10 skills and every character build could benefit from about 15 of them, so picking the wrong one can be pretty serious.

Often if you plan ahead though, you can choose the "wrong" sets of skills and playstyle for a given class and do very well with it. If you just pick stuff more or less at random, and they don't compliment each other, you could be in for a difficult ride

Okey guys thanks for the helpful info :)

One more thing, me and my friend started playing today and I created a server on Open net since we dont feel like playing hardcore in Closed net. Now we found out that all our quests/campaign wasnt saved. What are we doing wrong? read the manual/forum/google etc but nothing helpful. How can you play with your mate+have saved content+no hardcore mode? If it even works ^^

Sorry I dont wanna spam questions here but I get a feeling that you're not going to flame me so =) cheers

Make sure that the game that you create is a "campaign" type game and not a "free" type game. In a "free" game the quests are not saved and can be completed multiple times.

Also if you and your friend are not at the same point in the campaign then quest status will not be saved for the player that did not create the game.

I have only played closed net and single player (oh and xbox version) but I am pretty sure that this advice applies to open net as well.

Edit 2: not a fast as Spunky heh

Ah fixed it now I think! Yeah I had it on campaign BUT when we first created our characters, we did it in single player. Therefore it didn't wanna save in multiplayer im guessing. Now I created a char in Open instead and it worked =)

Hehe Spunky, im used to reading wowforums where you get flamed for anything.. thank god I left that stage
