Specifics about Dual Wield

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have a bunch of dual wield questions:

-- Do you swing with your right or left hand first always? is it random which you swing with first? or do you swing with one hand first preferentially (but not always)?

Assuming you swing with right hand first always,

-- Is the damage you do dependent on the weapon in your right hand or is every hit it the average of both your weapons?

Also,

-- If one of your weapons has a mod like Direct Damage x%, Leech life x%, etc... do you get this chance when swinging with your other weapon which does not have this mod? This goes for any mod. If so, is there any mod this does not work for?

-- Do you have an 'off' hand? or are you ambidextrous? ie... is damage/chance to hit/any factor in one hand less than the other when wielding 2 weapons?

-- If so, does it help wielding a small weapon in your 'off' hand? or is wielding 2 large weapons the same?

-- If not, is there any difference whatsoever, no matter how small (other than the way you look, and which weapon is defaulted to switch when right-clicking a new weapon) when swapping hands? ie. Is damage calculated differently or something? Does it sound different when attacking? is it possible to change anything by swapping hands?

Thx in advance!

To start, I would suggest that you post these questions either in the char-specific section if it's for a specific char, or in the general discussion section. This one is strictly for guides.

-- Do you swing with your right or left hand first always? is it random which you swing with first? or do you swing with one hand first preferentially (but not always)?

----> yes, you first swing with the right one, then, after a very brief delay (less than a second, so it's hard to notice), the left one. It's all the same really... The only occasion in which the hand matters is when executing Archangel's Wrath CA. It this case, only the right hand weapon damage is applied.

Assuming you swing with right hand first always,

-- Is the damage you do dependent on the weapon in your right hand or is every hit it the average of both your weapons?

-----> The damage is weapon-specific. Weapon 1 successful hit damage calculation + weapon 2 successful hit damage calculation will show in your char overview though, so it might mislead you a bit.

-- Do you have an 'off' hand? or are you ambidextrous? ie... is damage/chance to hit/any factor in one hand less than the other when wielding 2 weapons?

----> If I recall correctly, there is a damage penalty for the left hand weapon. Just put the better weapon in your right hand and the secondary weapon in your left one and you'll be ok.

-- If so, does it help wielding a small weapon in your 'off' hand? or is wielding 2 large weapons the same?

----> There are restrictions as to which weapons can be dual wielded. You can't dual wield ranged weapons. On the sword and hafted one-handed weapons can be dual wielded.

----> How do you define small? 2-socket, 3-socket, 4-socket one handed weapon? Each of those is governed by its own weapon lore (daggers are sword lore). About the sound - come on, you're delving way too deep here without much point. If you want to hear blunt sounds, use hafted. If you want slicing, use swords. It's as simple as that.

You'll turn off these sounds after 50 hours of play time anyway.

There are some combat arts which use only right hand weapon (modifiers from left weapon like x% life leech will still apply):

all hybrid attacks which don't use tactic lore like spectral hand from shadow warrior, archangel wrath (seraphim), magic coup (elves don't have dual wielding anyway)

all sweeping attacks (attacks which hit ecverything in a certain angle and range around player): darting assault (dryad), ruthless mutilation (inquisitor), ...

The dual hits seem to have same speed for different weapon combinations. At dual wielding daggers seem not faster than swords or axes.

Double hits from dual wielding mastery will not apply on combat arts I think.
