Steve, how we find time is ...... we get our kids addicted to gaming too *lol* Daemonrocks now has a guild wars account and after watching him play this week our 6 yr old was very upset that he had to wait til he was 13 to have guild wars ( per the box ) because he intended to ask Santa next year for guild wars so he could play too .... He also thinks its funny to watch me "kill" his brother in quake every so often.

Some gamers may be born gamers but many more are made ... *g*

"I don't do much online gaming - ok.. I don't do online gaming. I like the ability to pause the game whenever I need to and not worry about getting killed while I do an update on the wiki while whatever I'm updating is there in front of me so I can do it accurately." (Wolfie - I cut the age off the front of the quote out of sheer bloody-minded politeness). I am with you on this. My all-time favourite is still Morrowind - I never did finish it, and never will - I got hooked on modding.

Perhaps you could persuade some of these on-line games producers to sell a home version, for off-line play, where you were not constantly up-dating and patching to cure the updates; and with further episodes available only if you wanted them. Sacred 1 provided this option. I don't know about Sacred 2. I am thinking about 1 particular game, which is always producing new material (of no earthly interest to a bloke who rarely gets beyond about level 30), and always having a barrowload of problems each time. There are a couple of "free" on-line games that I would cheerfully buy if they would only sell Part 1 for play off-line at home, and sell extension bits separately. Or even (possibly preferably) have separate servers for newbies which remained on Part One, with an option to move to the wider game if required. They are always moving the goalposts so to speak.

"I think that some old games are are better than newer ones despite the lack of graphics. I always loved 'Settlers' and 'Settlers2', but I can't play them on my new machine (Win7 64bit) and I still love 'Elite!' and my favourites 'Colonization' and 'Heroes of Might and Magic3' with the WoG upgrade." (Podgie). You should have kept the old machine laddie, for times when the web connection breaks down or someone else needs the PC (damn, I shouldn't make it so obvious that we only have one PC). You know, I preferred the graphics on Settlers 1 & 2 to the later over-size stuff, and with both Settlers 1 and Colonization you were offered almost unlimited 'random' (that's not the right word but I can't call up the right one) scenarios.

Also I will widen my previous offer - if we ever meet on line YOU can call ME "grandad".

Aah BondBug I would have loved to keep my old machine, unfortunately my old machine was not so well protected against powersurges as was claimed. I shut down when an electrical storm arrived, but obviously did not unplug it in time as the motherboard was fried and the harddrives (internal and external) were both unrecoverable. I lost everything except what I had backed up onto CDs, which was only a small percentage of my stuff. The worst was all my digital photos which were irreplaceable. Who says external drives are a safe backup? Only when they are disconnected!

And I agree that one way Diablo2(LoD) and similar games are in fact superior to modern games like Sacred2 is the way the maps are randomly generated each time you play, so you don't play over the same route everytime you play the game. It was the best 'play extending' feature of those games.

So do tell, what online games do you still play? Perhaps ickle Podgie may come pay Grandpa a visit one day?

PS. I do still play Sacred, though in single player offline as I forgot my account details (senility strikes us all sometime)they were on the hardrive of my 'fried' machine.

Thought I sent you a brief note last night Podgie - must have omitted to "post".

Not to worry. I caught sight of Chattius earlier post in this thread with his Isetta and jews harp. And he is just a growing lad. Incredible.

I have half reloaded Sacred2, but still have to update from 2.0.2 to 2.43. Haven't time just now. Takes ages - then it probably won't work.

On-line I play two 'freebies' Runes of Magic and Lotro. RoM is quite good but subject to all sorts of infuriating problems particularly after updates. Last one took me three weeks to sort out. Lotro is good. If you are looking for constant nerve-wracking conflicts, these may not be your games. I remember with Sacred 1 I eventually got tired of the sheer density of enemies ... like trying to run through treacle and without a great deal of variation. I liked WoW which could be played with less hassle, but got tired of the prancing around of idiots demanding duels - even one lvl38 character who pounced on a new char of mine as he emerged from the starters womb, so to speak. And I couldn't afford it!

The two games I mention are more relaxing. Plenty of hassle if you want it, but both have a range of crafts for relaxation. Lotro even has housing estates where you can decorate inside and out and socialise with the neighbours - when they are there. I spend a lot of time mining, chopping wood, farming and working to produce weapons, armour, food etc., as a rest between hacking around and questing. No rush. The levels build up fast or slow as you wish. And the settlements and folks are well done, as between The Shire and lands of dwarves, elfs and humans. Have a look at it on WIKI here or the Lotro lorebook here

We could start a Grandpa group for over, say, 45s (open to discussion)

On second thoughts, and to stay on thread, put my age down as 19, 18 next birthday.

I have to admit that although I have never even looked at Runes of Magic, I did seriously consider LOTRO and even started to download it, but cancelled it when the download time topped 2 hours and I wanted to do other things online that it was interfering with. I may well try again though as the thought of a gruff, grumpy, axe wielding dwarf really does appeal, especially since I could be 53 and still be only a yougster barely out of childhood!

Got one of them with a nice white beard, and Grumpy is what the grandchildren call me - couldn't manage Granpa

The way the survey is going we might have to let the 40-50s into the granpa squad :D most of them probably are in any case

(still can't get Sacred 2 to run)

I am 29..and being a woman makes it even worse..women are not supposed to be playing games, they have to be in the kitchen cooking, or doing different household chars..according to my friends :3lmao:

But I really enjoy playing games..that somehow relaxes me and keeps my agression :pirate: , if such, focused on evil beasts and monsters..

Moreover..I have xbox 360, ps3 and wii with balance board...I use to jump and do different exercises on it..it's sooooo funny..

Well, there is always the problem with "time for gaming" but I manage... :)

Well, tell your friends to buy you a kitchen/cleaning game then.

Everybody's happy, hahahah!

Good call.

Sounds like Lelo's friends are stuck in the 'dark ages' !

Tell them to crawl outta thier cave and get with da modern world. ;)

As long as you are happy with your life, then that should be enough, IMHO.

When you get a bit older and tired of leaping around you should try Lotro. Sacrilege. Pig to instal, ask Podgie, but you can cook some good stuff there. All you need is a farmer friend ... and a tailor, woodworker, weaponsmith ... I have a hobbit hunter who cooks the most useful Coney Pie you ever tasted ... :chef:
