Fire Imp for High Elf on PS3 version

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if ppl have found the Imp to be of use in the later lvls? Now I know he misses alot, I know he may die alot, I know he is like a 12 year old kid amped up on Surge but im looking for maximum fire damage from my HE late game.

Stat placement will mainly be Stam/Int/Vit. In that order as I want to have really nice regen times on my Combat Arts while still being able to read alot of runes as the mods I am pciking will increase with those CA lvls.

Skills I will be taking.

Arrant Lore 75+

Arrant Focus 75+

Concentration 75 (DEPENDS ON IMP)

Armor Lore 75

Constitution 75

Bargaining 50 + (will be a filler skill will keep as high as possible with suit and relics etc)

Delphic Focus 9

Combat Discipline 75

Ancient Magic 75

Shield Lore (still undecided but alot im hoping)

Mods will be a little hard cuz my work blocks the wiki but I pretty much got those planned out down to personal preference and mx restarts of this HE.

This toon will be couch co-op played with my GF who is running a Polearm Seraphim Exalted Warrior/Rev tech.

Again I want maximum fire damage from my HE as my GF is already making me look bad, she is level 16 hitting for 1k with soul hammer! :) thats good tho at least she plays right..

Any and all help/feedback is greatly appreciated. And before you go to the trouble of linking me to various HE builds I have read and studied them all multiple times.

Cheers!

I just started a HE (like 30 minutes ago). The Fire Imp sounded good, but so far he seems of dubious value. Most of the time he just stands there like a statue. Is he supposed to follow me? I will be running in circles trying to keep away from an enemy and he just stands there. Does he get better?

I think it is best not to think of the little guy as a minion/escort/etc, and just use him for the passive effects. Unmodified he adds fire damage, but the silver modifications can add casting speed or lessen detrimental effects.

IIRC, the PC versions have keys that can direct your escorts (ie attack a certian enemy); but on the consoles, we're subject to the AI programming, which is erratic at best. He can stand there and be useless, or cast fireballs (which miss moving enemies), or get caught in buff-casting loops.

I guess I actually expected him to do something. Are the passive effects worth it, or should I just restart the HE without him?

If you are using buff suits, I see no reason not to use him after you have conc. mastered. If you do not plan on using Grand Invigoration, then I would skip concentration and forget about the fire monkey.

Looking at the wiki, he offers 18% + 2%/CA_lvl boost to fire damage (native boost),and will add 10% + 0.2%/CA_lvl cast speed if that silver modification is chosen, OR a 25% (flat) reduction in detrimental effects for the other silver mod. IMO, the other mods are not of much use.

I think the fire damage boost is decent, when the buff is kept at a reasonable level. The DME reduction is OK, but the cast speed option is better if you are using Combat Arts that are "in penalty" (ie partial levels). Cast speed is reduced by 1% per level above your malus, so that silver mod on the Fire Demon can save you some headaches if you are eventually using very-high level combat arts, which is easily acheived with buff suits/IS buff.

I have tried using buff suits, but they seemed to be more trouble than they were worth (I guess I am not at that advanced yet).

I took Concentration at level 2 and planned to master it by 75, so I could use Fire Demon, Incandescent Skin & Grand Invigoration. Without Fire Demon, I would have taken it at level 3 and left it at 1 hard point.

I really don't put buff suits together until I get to Gold difficulty (or level 35 - when my toons can socket Platinum-quality runes). They are a little bit of trouble, especially if you use full-suits; but very much worth the effort to have high-level attack Combat Arts. Weapon-sets are somewhat easier to "use", you just have to remember to switch back to your "slaughtering" weaps after casting your buffs.

If you're a "pure" fire elf, then I would say go for the Demon ASAP. If you're playing a 2- or 3-aspect elf, then it is probably better to keep concentration at 1 and boost your other skills and/or mod other AP combat arts.
