Headache from the Black Lagoon

A terror for the last two days. I think it started with all the rain coming down in Montreal for the last few days, but no amount of ibuproffen or tylenol could put his one down. Last few days has kinda felt like a twillight zone, grey and murky, and I even had to cut some hours off for late day just to be able to close eyes and see if I could will it away. Cool thing is that in MOntreal they're offering something over the counter which I've never had before called Alleve... anyone tried this? Apparently it's like one pill for twelve hours, and last night I was able to sleep, and I finally feel kind of half human

Beware...I think I'm back!

Wow.. You guys are only now getting Aleve? We've had that stuff down here in the US for a few years now. It does work pretty good. I get a generic version of the drug (it's cheaper) called Naproxen Sodium. It does work pretty good.

"...Aleve became available over-the-counter in most provinces in Canada on 14 July 2009, with the exception of Quebec. It most recently became available in British Columbia in March 2011...."

Lot of names in germany:

Alacetan (D), Aleve (D, CH), Apranax (CH), Dolormin für Frauen (D), Dolormin GS (D), Dysmenalgit (D), Mobilat Schmerztabletten (D), Naprobene (A), Proxen (D, A, CH), zahlreiche Generika (D, A, CH)

I learned from my wife: Don't mix it with other drugs without asking a doc/pharmacist. It can boost or reduce the use of other drugs. People normally try Aspirin or other weaker pain killers first. But for example Aspririn is a blood thinner and the blood thinning effect can be boosted by Naproxen. So if you ever suffered from bleeding in your inner organs, be careful.

LD50 (lethal dosis, 50% chance to die) is at 250milligramm per kilogramm weight, so at 100 pounds weight 50 pills each 250milligramm. So don't go above 1gramm a day if you take it for a longer period.

Yeah it's kinda a new thing here. We spoke to the lady across the counter, she was saying that naproxen's fairly new, but more powerful than ipuproffen...better for stuff like associated neck and back pains. In this case, I had a headache, but a part of my neck with it was always sore. The Aleve helped me get that night's sleep.

Actually Chattius, it's interesting that you're listing a dosage chart...there is none on the bottle

This is the first time I've ever not seen suggested usage/dosage on a medicine bottle...maybe becuase it's Over the Counter only? I'm only using one every twelve hours, and nothing else with it, and actually today we may not even need it!

Hmm... And they say Canadian health is somehow better... No wonder Canadians have been known to slip over the border for meds...

The lack of a dosage chart or any sort of instructions IS odd. Even OTC meds here in the US demand that sort of thing printed on every bottle - even if you need an electron microscope to decode it. Thus sayeth the Food & Drug Administration...

The max OTC dose per tablet here in the US is 220 mg. You can, however, get perscriptions for higher doses - I've gotten 500 and 1000 mg tabs. My Dr has me taking 2 220 mg tabs per day. I've had one 500 and one 1000 - depending on how much I complain about the pain.

We used to be better... now we are definitely worse. Much worse, IMO... but I won't rant on about that (I do not have a "doctor", believeitornot).

Thankfully our most recent federal election managed to get a "socialist" party as the official opposition. Time will tell if they can do any good for our health system.

If you ever need any tips on how to rid yourself from headaches, just go ahead and ask haha. I came down with menegitis when I was about a year old and it's left scar tissue up my spinal column, specifically in my neck. I get some of the worse headaches you can think of (gets to a point where I will bleed a bit from the ears because of fluid buildup and then become unaware of where I'm at for a few hours) but on top of that I've got genetic migraine disease as well as a frequent sinus issue beingin the dry desert...so I've learned to deal with every one of them, in different ways depending on where the headache starts, what it feels like, where it's located, etc. I ended up finding that a lot of the tricks and methods I've discovered have helped a lot of people I've spoken to.

Best one that can soothe any headache, but not always make it completely gone required near boiling water (not too hot to burn but hot enough to make it...well hot enough for you to barely stand it) and then ice water. Use the hot water and soak your head, be it in the sink faucet, shower, etc or a bucket for extreme cases. Once you have the water surrounded to your ears and eyes, rub where the pain hurts until you can't stand the heat, and immediately take the ice water and dump it on your head to sort shock the vessels into shrinking again..

After that an ice pack, a bit of numbness kicks in, and you should be free. This works generally qith everything but a sinus headache, though it will still help, just not near and much. also, if you have migraines don't take asprin or anything with asprin, and caffeine will always help in very small doses.

Dunno if this information would be useful haha.
