I've only played through most of Act 1, so have only encountered two of the followers the game provides, and only as a barbarian and monk so far (I have a demon hunter set up for when I get one of my first two characters through Act One).

My question is if you are playing Single Player, which of the followers is best in your opinion? I played my barbarian alongside the templar for a while, thinking his healing and regeneration abilities might make an unstoppable melee force, but then he antagonised anything within range at the drop of a hat. (I was vaguely reminded of the Sacred 2 Seraphim class quest where you have to escort an orc from one town to the Seraphim Leader). I'm not even sure now he will be useful when playing a Wizard of Witch Doctor, as more often than not antagonised monsters seem to make a beeline for you as the main character.

So I tried the Scoundrel tonight, and this is working for me at the moment. By taking (early on) his slow and blind abilities, I'm finding it easy to melee enemies, and also he has a tendency to draw out enemies, rather than the templar's charge in regardless.

Needless to say, the dialogues in both cases is brilliant, although it gets a bit repetitive (says he who's listened to a Seraphim for the last three and a half years).

Good topic Steerpike.

I was reluctant to use them at first but now in Act II I'm finding them a necessity. I'm a wizard so I use the Templar to draw attention away from me as much as possible. At level 26 his health regen for allies is pretty impressive. I stopped playing with him at level 27 and I noticed a HUGE difference in health regen. Didn't take down any numbers but... Oh alright I'll go check in game...

Some time later...

Ok, so without the Templar my Health per second is 9.0. WITH the Templar my Health per second is 27.55. Lemme tell yah. When he's with me my health shoots right back up after taking damage. Big life saver. For those not familiar with picking Follower skills, the skill of his that does this is called Loyalty which you have to choose for him in his inventory. If you choose the other option you can always retrain your Follower's skills by right clicking on his/her portrait at the top left of the screen when he/she is in your party.

I agree with schot that the templar is a great follower with the loyalty ability unlocked at level 10 I believe. That extra boost to health point regeneration is amazing, especially for hardcore. He doesn't seem to do much damage at all but he can be a good meat shield if used correctly ;)
