wolfie2kX 528
I do not understand what you are saying. Plain English please? You've got which version of Windows? Vista - right? Should be simple enough to deal with. First things first: On the laptop 1.) Disable McAfee. 2.) Install the CM Patch. 3.) Open Windows Explorer. 4.) Click on your C: drive. 5.) On the right hand side, right-click and create a new folder. Let's call it "CMP Backup" (without the quotes) 6.) Click on the folder to open it. 7.) On the right hand side, right click and select NEW and Compressed File (If you have WinZip installed, you should see. WinZip file instead) Call the new ZIP archive "S2Updater.zip" (without quotes again) 8.) Windows treats ZIP files as if they were folders. Which is a good thing. 9.) Now then, navigate to C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel 10.) Find the file called "Sacred2Updater.EXE". 11.) Right-click on the above mentioned file and select CUT. 12.) Navigate Windows Explorer back to the C:\CMP Backup folder and click on the S2Updater.zip file to open it. 13.) right-click on the right side and select PASTE. This should move the offending file from active duty to a zip file. 14.) Turn McAfee back on. Enjoy. Link to comment
Ysne58 236
Vista is on the desktop, 7 is on the laptop. I just thought of something else to try first. I'll get back to you. Link to comment
Ysne58 236
I had been hoping to resolve this without disabling the antivirus. It appears that the only way to resolve this is to disable the antivirus while insatalling. Step 1. disconnect the computer from the internet. Step 2. disable the antivirus Step 3. install the patch. Step 4. turn antivirus back on Step 5. reconnect the computer to the internet Step 6. play the game to see if anything else is needed. I did not need to follow any of the other steps. wolfie2kX 528
OK.. Tho I suspect the AV will trip whenever you launch the game. Simply because the game launches the Sacred2Updater.exe when you start the game - to see if there are any updates available. And should you do a scan, it will once again complain about there being a trojan downloader (or whatever it found) located there. Link to comment
Ysne58 236
Actually I haven't had any issues. I've started the game up several times too. Link to comment
marcuswob 43
A few comments from my side: - We're building the Patch with a similar product like Ascaron did before. - Even the old patches were sometimes flagged as trojans. - The updater can be renamed or even deleted, that won't stop the game from working. - I myself prefer to exclude the Sacred2 directory from being scanned by my AV product. - During the patch process also ZIP files are altered. Some AV realtime scanners try to open and read the ZIP Düring this procedure. This lead to corrupt files in the past and will do so in the future. - After all, patching is a similar process to infecting. Files are being altered and inserted. Sometimes changes are made to the registry. The only difference is the intention. CU Marcus Link to comment
