chattius 2,526
It is somehow strange how close celebrations and tragedies are. My oldest sister did the annuary of her second birthday.... 7th July 1987 a truck transporting fuel had malfunction in brakes. It crashed into the inner city of the nearby town of Herborn and exploded. 3 friends of my sister died in an ice cafe at the center of the explosion. My sister left just minutes earlier for training with her handball team. I was at youth firefighters then and we weren't allowed to help directly but to direct traffic and incoming help. I heard 3 people dead in canada at radio, but I fear all the still missed are dead. At Herborn it were 36000 litres of gasoline and 6000 litres of diesel. The gasoline was flowing into the sewers and there were explosions and fire bursts up to half a mile away, even the river was burning. Canada was heavy oil but a whole train... The thoughts of our family are with the families of the victims ... Link to comment
