Popular Post munk 28
It's hard to believe, but even after Sacred ll came out there was a time on most forums when Sacred shared almost equal space with Sacred ll. Soon it had about a third as much activity, then- the bit at the bottom of a long list of other things to do lies the original Sacred 1, now called "Underworld" by almost everyone. I can assure you when Sacred was out and Underworld just a dream, no one called Sacred "Underworld". Underworld was an expansion world we wanted to play. Even after its release there were two distinct games, Sacred and the child, underworld, and two sections on most if not all forums. When Sacred two came out there were three sections, Sacred, Underworld, Sacred ll. Now poor Sacred is the child of its own child, and is called Underworld, or sacred underworld. Does anyone still play Sacred? I do, as much as Sacred 2. I'll play for awhile, grow tired, quit, come back months or a year later and begin again. I have computers filled with Sacred characters and their games. Every computer in the house has Sacred. I play nearly all the characters. There's a core of favorites, but that has changed over the years too. Sacred One is cosier than Sacred 2. It's like curling up by the fire with a good book and a cup of coffee. Comfort, peace, contentment- very relaxing and enjoyable. I can't see a time when I won't play Sacred One and Underworld. in the early days I'd bop by Dark Matters occasionally- not sure when I first found them. or when they started, for that matter. There were more Sacred links long ago and I went to all I found, but primarily to the proper Sacred forum, official and all that, only delving into Dark Matters more extensively when Ascaron folded and the 'official' forum stopped being maintained. When Hatcher left, probably. (name right?) I've been reading Dark Matters for advise and help for years- years. And the wonderful Wiki, of course. When that collapsed it was a blow, even my son was saddened. It's late, but thank you to all who rebuilt the site and gave us back a little hope. There has been a Sacredwiki link on every computer I've owned since I owned computers and played Sacred. There are probably more people out there like me than you might think. It's true among the twenty something gaming crowd in America not many have heard of Sacred, but I'd bet older players from the Diablo and Morrowind/Oblivion days have. It was bigger in Europe than in the States was always my impression. Anyway, here's to Sacred and its child, Underworld. Still better than most games out today. And honestly, I can't really think of more than one or two that are actually better, even with their superior graphics. If Ascaron had survived, and perhaps developed more AI or response to the player from the NPC's, well, even Bethesda would tremble. There is a big hole in the gaming world and no one is filling it. I'm not sure if it's 'legal' in the forum for me to list games that do not fill the shoes left by Ascaron so I won't, but know that I've looked and tried to find one. Doesn't exist. 2 Link to comment
Popular Post Flix 5,116
I still play Sacred 1. Games can have a lot of replay value for various reasons, like a story that branches out at mutiple points, or changes according to your character class or choices. Then there are certain games that have a verrry long life due to the large number of character classes, builds, combinations of items, skills, etc. and the fact that the character can always progress and grow a little more. For that reason there are some games I am never quite finished with, and the Sacred games are 2 of them. Titan Quest is another one. 2 Link to comment
Spock 271
Don't forget Pevil's site and NightWolfe's site. They both had a lot of information on Sacred. 1 Link to comment
Popular Post DeonCruywagen 17
I also still play both. I have played Diablo II, but the Sacred family rules, IMHO. 2 Link to comment
SevPOOTS 90
Restarted Sacred gold right now. It plays better than Sacred 2 and the Story, VOICE ACTING, animations and CAs are alot better. Plays at 60FPS too. I dont know, it's the first RPG I've ever finished and it doesnt get boring no matter how many times ive restarted lol I remember when I stumbled upon a SACRED Cd in a video game store. I asked the assistant there what kind of game this is. He said it's like diablo (which I've played and loved, but never finsihed due to cheating lol) . Bought it and installed. Then I Saw the seraphim. I fell in love with her pigtails lol. Been a fan ever since xD 1 Link to comment
podgie_bear 184
Serephim? That lanky streak of fluff that belongs in a dress shop window? Nah, Dwarf is what makes the game great. There is nothing like playing one unarmed and slapping dragons around before heading back to a breakfast of smoked goblin! Mwuhahahahahah Edited February 10, 2015 by podgie_bear 1 Link to comment
