Aegis 256
After seeing Augmint's thread on games of 2017, instead of hijacking his topic, I'll follow suit and make this one. If there's one game that is giving me an excuse to purchase a PS4 or finally upgrade my potato PC, it'd be Nier Automata. I have two reasons. Reason 1: Music. Drakengard series always had great music. Nier Automata is no exception, especially with tunes like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poGw2dPHgEI Reason 2: 2B's skirt. The pic I've linked is tame, but big. Just so you should know, she also jumps alot. It also helps that Platinum Games worked on this as opposed to in the past, so the action in the gameplay has been stepped up alot. Edited February 25, 2017 by Aegis 1 Link to comment
Mystix123 60
I pre-ordered it for PS4. I couldn't justify the limited edition from Squeenix's website though...$250ish CAD was just too much. https://store.na.square-enix.com/product/435171/nier-automata-black-box-edition-ps4 1 Link to comment

Yeah, Black Box Edition will also put a black hole in your bank account. Wouldn't mind a few of those items, though, like the soundtrack. And all the trailers I've seen were epic. From seeing the frenetic pace of the gameplay and the positive outlook based on the demo, this could very well be the first Drakengard game that will do well in mainstream. Link to comment
Hooyaah 2,827
It has been over two months since I played NieR: Automata. It was the first 4K game that I played on my new Rig which has an Intel Core i7-3960X CPU at 3.30 GHz, 16GB RAM, and a NVidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti. I read a number of very positive reviews about the game and that's why I purchased and played it. I even disseminated some information at its respective wiki for the edification of fellow players. It is true that the game has a well refined synergy between visual, auditory (sound effects, vocals, music, etc.) which melds in a seamless confluence, transporting one into an experience that is simultaneously rare and unique. It is also true that the adventure is wondrous and one is drawn in wholly so that moving through the game is a sublime compulsion. One becomes so familiar with the protagonists and so fond of them that they feel like family. That is where the problem lies, in my assessment, because the developers made a singular but significant error, or at least a major miscalculation. There are no "good endings" but many endings, the majority of which are not only bad but fraught with sorrow, many with hopelessness, some that are just poor jokes. All of these I could discount if there were but one clearly "happy" ending where there is manifest hope and redemption, a reward for making good choices. It seems clear to me that Square Enix wished to make a statement against war and perhaps an illustration of the violence in and the futility of life rather that making a game that people would love to experience again and again reliving such joy. I have learned in life that the human creature can tolerate only so much of death. Death that occurs close to one, especially that of friends and loved ones fills said capacity much more rapidly. Perhaps this is a way to make gamers go on to buy their next game. I, for one, feel betrayed. A game should not make one regret playing it over and over trying to make things turn out "right" without that being a possibility. I do not intend to purchase or accept as a gift any more games of this franchise. Furthermore, I am no longer a patron of Square Enix. Link to comment
Steerpike1 53
Slight spoiler, but my favourite ending was if you turn the wrong way at the start of 9S's storyline, he just walks off into the sunset. The end. And for those still wanting to play, they are releasing Nier Automata on Xbox 1 X soon. Link to comment
