Played about 10 turns and we have something resembling an army at the Malinese border

OK, it was more like 5 turns. Just when I thought I couldnt get worse at maths...

Turn 248, 1690AD - Turn 252, 1710AD:

continue building troops

shipping workers to the southern island to clear that jungle

noticed that our cities have relatively small population. Ok, me and my whipping are somewhat responsible for this, but I’ll see if I can build some granaries.

Alexander has declared war on Gandhi!

our troops are standing at the Malinese border, so why not use them? ->

Turn 253, 1715AD:

We have declared war on Mansa Musa!

1202293353140.jpg

Bombing Kumbi Saleh

Turn 254, 1720AD:

1202293357765.jpg

Lost a rifle but:

1202293367562.jpg

1202293376140.jpg

too bad its this close to the capital

Turn 255, 1725AD:

some pathetic attempt at Gantobury, rifles take care of it quickly

1202293370843.jpg

Gandhi is losing cities, so why not trade with him while we can? We get Constitution and some gold

Turn 257, 1735AD:

Montezuma = priceless

1202293377000.jpg

poor Gandhi

Turn 258, 1740AD:

Baoding has been founded on a somewhat marginal spot of the island

Turn 259, 1745AD:

1202293381656.jpg

next tech shall be:

1202293386031.jpg

Tokugawa has declared war on Mansa Musa! he may steal some cities :)

Turn 260, 1750AD:

1202293389453.jpg

bombing Djenne and on the same turn:

1202293399406.jpg

Li Po, a great artist has been born in Beijing! – not sure what to do with him, he’s on his way to the front lines

Turn 261, 1755AD:

Saladin has declared war on Hatshepsut! - Divide et impera :)

And sent some troops to the barbarian city of the island:

1202293400703.jpg

Turn 262, 1760AD:

Delhi has been captured by the Greek Empire!!

Turn 263, 1765AD:

We have a bit of a problem here:

1202293407781.jpg

For one Toku may capture the city before we could. he doesn’t have catapults nearby though

And his borders are blocking the way to the Malinese capital. He’s Tokugawa so he wont sign open borders of course. Maybe use the artist here

Hey, I deserve a little more credit than that enci, I know you thought it was real ;) ... Everything is fine! Sorry for that

My turnset

Wow, so many turns now since my last turnset and I lost track of my own plans as we have progressed so much since the last. In a good way though :) I planned to finish what enci started and also spread our religon.

Turn 264, 1770AD:

Corporation -> Chemistry

Mansa Musa:s city of Gao is captured. No casualties and wasnt really a challange :)

1822_gaocapture.jpg

1822_gaocapture2.jpg

Turn 265, 1775AD:

Sent our Great Artist to Gao and made a great work. Borders didnt expand as much as I had hoped for so no clear path to Timbuktu. I sign a Open border agreement with Tokugawa and sends our huge army to Mansas capitol. I just hope Tougawa wont get there first.

Turn 267, 1785AD:

Chemistry -> Steampower ... wee... coal, factory and railroad here we come :3lmao:

Turn 268, 1790AD:

Mansa Musa's has 2 Caravels that lurks outside our capitol. I send our caravel to engage and even with a lower combat odds we stand as vicotorious when the smoke settles.

Turn 271, 1802AD:

The battle of Timbuktu. Finally arrived, this will be easy!

1822_timbuktucapture3.jpg

Timbuktu is ours! and the Malinese Civilization has been destroyed!!

1822_timbuktucapture.jpg

1822_timbuktucapture2.jpg

On the same turn has the greeks conqured Calcutta and Indian Civilization has been destroyed!! Bye bye ghandi.

Turn 273, 1806AD:

You have discovered Steam Power -> Assembly line

We now have 10 millions souls paying taxes!!

1822_10mil.jpg

Turn 275, 1810AD:

Yangzhou has been founded.

1822_yangzhou.jpg

Turn 280, 1820AD:

Abu Bakr, a prophet, has been born in Beijing, sent him to Djenne to found the islamic holy city.

Our army is fortified in Timbuktu. I send our caravels on autoexplore. I spread our religion to most of our cities resulting in a nice income boost +18g/turn.

My thoughts

With railroad and factories so close we might want to hold of any new invasion and build factories in our main cities before we start producing more armies. Economy is fine and we might even send out more settlers if we want to, 2 huge continents are waiting :) Though this is optional but as a builder its always fun :)

The Russians like us. And while we’re powerful enough to win this game without friends, I’d still go after somebody else. Possibly the Incas but their cities aren’t that valuable or maybe the Japanese. But yeah, those Russian cities are nice

Oki, im sry ... but I didnt check the pacts that were in place and after mansa I declared war on hatshepsut and lets just say one thing lead to another ...sigh

I guess I had this one coming :D

And nice work finishing off Mansa :D

PS

The capital is not growing, its not working on the fish resource again

Maybe even build some farms and have more specialists :D

Ohh, ill stay out of the "who to invade next" discussion ...hehe... I want factories and railroad first :D

My opinion is that we should attack the Incas. They should be the easiest to defeat as all our troops should be focused in only one area (apart from that city on the island but that shouldn't be a problem).

It's true that the Russians have nicer cities and attacking them would allow us to control the southern island almost entirely, but fighting them would force us to split our troops in half, on the mainland and on the island.

As for the Japanese, conquering them would unite the city of Timbuktu with the rest of the country, which would be a good thing, however if we chose to attack them the amount of border area we should defend in case of a counter-attack would be quite big. Also somehow I think that out of the three, Togukawa has the largest number of forces.

1. Assembly line, I decrease our research funding so we can upgrade our aging army

2. Haerbin founded. We also build the Masjid Al-Haram in Djenne

Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

Steam power for gold and scientific method from hatshepsut

3. Tokugawa cancels open borders

4. Democracy. I initiate a revolution, we adopt Universal Suffrage, Free Speech, Emancipation and Free Religion!

5. Inca cancel open borders

6. Nothing Special

7. Anarchy ends

8. Nothing Special

9. Kind of boring

10. Nothing Special

12. Steel

13. Nothing Special

14. Nothing Interesting

Didn't get to play yet (I'll probably play tonight, or tomorrow around noon) but I did look around a bit in the savegame.

It seems that if we are to attack anyone else first I should find a way to get our army (which is stuck up north) to the main part of our country. So what do you guys think, should I:

- take an awfully long amount of time to get some transports up there

- try and get Togukawa to sign open borders again

-OR-

- should I just unite our teritories the way germany reunified the teritories in East Prussia? *wink wink* :4rofl:

Link to comment

Hehe .. I sence what option you want most! :4rofl:

Lets go to war and unite the territories :4rofl: Though we need some additional units around our border cities as I think they will be raided as soon as we declare war.

Seconded. But we have to be more careful with Tokugawa, he’s churning out troops all the time

Link to comment

Didn't get to play tonight so guess tomorrow around noon will have to do.

As for declaring war on Togukawa, it would be nice, but the lack of troops in cities other than the northern one is my greatest concern as well.

Then again we have stronger troops, especially if we upgrade them, so who knows...

After lots and lots of thinking I decided that attacking Togukawa , as useful as it would have been, is far too risky for the moment. As such I focuse on upgrading our aging army and I can say I did a pretty good job, though we do need to upgrade some more catapults. As for the army stuck up north I decided to leave it there for now and use it for opening a northern flank should we decide to attack the Japanese.

Now for the turns:

Turn 1 - factory built in Kumbi Saleh; begining work on Statue of Liberty.

Library complete in Tianji, next tast granary.

Turn 2 - We research Physics and start working on Biology.

Turn 3 - Great scientist born in Beijing, I decide to consume him for tech points.

Also the population of Djenne revolts. How dare they!

civilization42008021513vf9.jpg

Turn 4 - Observatories are built in both Enciville and Guangzhou.

Turn 5 - Hindu temple finished in gao; granary is up next.

Lighthouse complete in Yangzhou; next step is forge.

Turn 6 - Biology researched, onwards to researching Railroads.

Bank is built in Xian and a Buddhist temple is finished in Hangzhou.

Baoding builds a courthouse; granary next on queue.

Turn 7 - Peter demands that we cancel deals with the Egyptians. Obviously we decline.

Lots of buildings are finished.

The revolt in Djenne has stopped.

Turn 8 - Even more buildings are complete. >_<

Turn 9 - Buildings again, argh, so many of them. :P

Turn 10 - Forge complete in Timbuktu; next up observatory.

Turn 11 - Hindu temple built in Macau => granary.

Courthouse finished in Khoisan => granary.

Egypt builds the Statue of Liberty before us. :P On the other hand we get ~580 gold to spend on upgrades.

Egypt enters a golden age, ugh, not that good. =/

Turn 12 - We can now build Railroads! Next we shall be able to provide our people with Electricity!

That and more buildings again...

Turn 13 - Nothing special.

Turn 14 - Again nothing special.

Turn 15- Iron Works complete in Borisburg.

A great artist is born in Beijing. Didn't give him any orders so I'll let someone else decide what to do with him. ;)

civilization42008021514cu1.jpg

Thoughts: again the Egyptians have some techs that we don't have and they are the closest to us in terms of research, which in turn allows them to snatch some wonders from time to time.

Other than that, we need more cannons. ;)

Save here.

renegotiated old deals and set up new ones, extorted money from all civs except the Egyptians, used the gold to upgrade units

also set the research to 0% for one turn so we can upgrade all catapults to cannons

Turn 1.

upgraded all except one catapult

Turn 2.

As for the war with the Japanese...

I don’t think we can win by domination, but the space race is a bit boring and we can still go into building mode when we wish, and war is just too much fun...

the backbones of our army, the cavalries are getting outdated quickly, we might as well use them up...

as I see things, the border cities are all defended, and we can move units pretty easily between them, and I plan to produce defensive troops in our core cities...

so Im pretty confident we wont lose cities, though we may have some serious problem with pillaging

so...

War is declared on the Japanese!!

immediately:

1203180719500.jpg

Turn 3.

Clearing up attacking Jap forces

only serious stack is near Djenne

1203180760578.jpg

our suicide cannon causes collateral damage. It may be a good idea to buy lottery tickets today as the cannon wins at 9% odds

also moved all available troops to Djenne

Turn 4.

Electricity -> Industrialism (Tanks!)

ok, its getting scary

1203180814421.jpg

so Im pretty confident we wont lose cities, though we may have some serious problem with pillaging

we wont lose cities, we wont! we wont...right:)

loooong series of attacks on Djenne...

Turn 5.

the defenders are still standing :wow: ...

so are the Japanese

I send 2 more suicide cannons to soften up the attackers, and also fresh defenders arrive at the city

Toku is settling faster then we can capture his cities, we razed the newly founded Yokohama

1203180892875.jpg

1203180955546.jpg

1203181004906.jpg

we have a slight problem up in the north: cavalries cant really handle the garrison promoted rifles, so I have to use infantry to attack and also have to leave some behind to guard the new cities. Timbuktu is producing units pretty fast though, I hope its gonna be enough

another loooong attack the Djenne

Turn 6.

Djenne still standing

1203181073687.jpg

1203181041843.jpg

one final failed attack on Djenne

Turn 6-8.

minor skirmish

Turn 10.

Industrialism comes in TANKS!! yay

or not, we don’t have oil wells, so the next tech is Combustion

Our forces arrive at Nara

1203181122000.jpg

1203181172015.jpg

Turn 11

first peaceful turn

Turn 13.

ombustion-> Flight

captured Bombay

1203181201281.jpg

1203181240921.jpg

Turn 15.

main forces meet another Japanese stack, no casualties, but we sustain serious injuries

Accidentally pressed Enter. Yes, accidentally. Honestly. Didn’t move any units

we have a stack of mostly defensive troops in Gantobury, with some tanks added, they’ll make a proper army. Still haven’t used the Great Artist

1203181313703.jpg

Speaking of tanks, oil is being hooked up, took a while to move the workers there

the empire

1203184173046.jpg

notice the Japanese city North of the Inca, we’ll have to ship units there unless the Incas change their mind and let us pass their lands

Tokugawa’s core cities are still untouched, and he still shows up with fresh stacks from time to time, so the war is definitely not over yet

My turnset

My plan was to try and finish the war with Tokugawa, build airports, connect most cities with railroad and just have fun!

Turn 329, 1918AD:

Oxford University is completed in Enciville.

Hatshepsut has completed The Kremlin! ...grrr..we lost a wonder

Turn 330, 1920AD:

Flight -> Radio I want Bombers!! Promise enci, its not because of the wonders!!

We now have airports!

1933_airport.jpg

We have captured Bangalore!! No casualites and will continue the advance!

1933_bangalore.jpg

Turn 333, 1923AD:

Satsuma and Kagoshima are assimilated into our empire. Again no casualties, marines > samurais

1933_satsuma.jpg1933_kagoshima.jpg

Turn 334, 1924AD:

Radio -> Rocketry

Ok, Tokugawa seems to finally grasp where this war is going...

1933_tagugawapeace.jpg

Turn 338, 1928AD:

Rocketry -> Plastics

Osaka down, whats next!?!

1933_osaka.jpg

1933_edo.jpg

O.o first tank built and we have a airport ready. He will join the siege of Kyoto!

1933_firsttank.jpg

Turn 342, 1932AD:

Plastics -> Artillery

We has completed Broadway! Yay..another happy face!

1933_broadway.jpg

Turn 343, 1933AD:

Ahh...tank in action

1933_tankfight.jpg

Here is excerpt from the combat log:

D.a.r.k II's Tank (33.60) vs Tokugawa's Pikeman(8.70)
Combat Odds: 100.0%
D.a.r.k II's Tank has defeated Tokugawa's Pikeman!

spearvstank.gif

Priceless!! Spear vs Tank!!

Koyto is no more!!

1933_kyoto.jpg

Summery

I built airports in the production heavy cities, additional workers that I set on auto trade network. Our armies are spread out in the border cities and a big army is currently moving towards Tokyo. I forgot about the small northern city but a transport is soon ready so we should be able to wipe the japanease in the next turnset. Great artist is still not used.

Civ4ScreenShot0136.JPG

1933_victory.jpg

My thoughts

Oki, I have a suggestion. Lets focus on the conquest victory!! Think this is possible if we just spam tanks and builds transports to carry them to the islands. Lower tech some to rush buy and upgrade our armies. What do you think:) Other possible win is spaceship and then we need to focus on those techs and maybe also not declare war so we can neglect producing armies. I vote for conquer!! :D

:drunkards: too bad spears lost that tiny little chance they used to have

Im not very familiar with late game wars, and Ive never even tried a late conquest, but if you think its feasible, then my vote goes to conquest.

Should we keep some of the conquered cities btw? Or just mow everything down?

Link to comment

Oh yes. .. keep them :)

117 turns left ... and roughly 60 cities ... so we need to capture 1 city every other turn!! ;)

Ohh enci ..50% chance we pull it off, either we do or dont :) ...but alteast its gonna be awesome trying :drunkards:

I say we try for the conquest victory. Way more fun than going for a space race. :drunkards:

The only problem would be capturing those offsea colonies, but hopefully we'll be able to manage it.

Imo our priority should be destroying the Egyptians while we hold the technological advantage as they are the closest to obtaining modern troops. And to gain access to their territories we have to attack either the Russians or the Greeks. Personally I think we should attack the greeks first as they aren't that strong and it should grant us a quick victory over them and allow us to attack the Egyptians faster than if we were to attack the Russians instead.

No problem then, guess we'll be going to war with the greeks then. :bump:

It's kinda late to play now (1 AM), but I will play tomorrow afternoon. :)
