Evade/Reflect

Recommended Posts

First off, hello to ya'll, nice to see there's other people like me.. Whether that's good or bad.

However, on topic, I'd like to know how Chance to evade (+%) and/or reflect damage work.

I've figured that evade gives you a high chance to.. Dodge, or in otherwords, evade an attack, and while it's impractical.. If you got +100% or more evade, does that mean monsters cannot touch you? (At least with physical attacks?)

I'm currently playing a Seraphim, and she has some 88% chance to evade.. And extremely low defence for her level (52, 500ish defence), but she's almost never hit.

This, could also be because she has 45%ish chance to reflect close combat, but it still seems illogical that ranged attacks are rare to strike as well.

And since Battle Stance is able to raise your chance to evade/reflect close combat, it would be rather odd that 100% chance to evade.. Means you're untouchable, coupled with a mount and some proper items, it's also fairly easy to aquire.

So, if anyone is aware how they work.. Or at least has tested similar effects themselves, it'd be wonderful if you'd share you knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. From what I've seen, set item bonuses change with level? Used to have +5 from three items of Niokaste's Blade Dance.. Now I have +6 and still three items?

Evasion & damage reflection are treated separately, evasion (whatever the source, be it items, CA/buff or Combat Reflexes) is taken into account in the "chance to be hit" % on the C tab, but damage reflection isn't. Evasion also works for ranged attacks as well as melee.

IIRC, evasion from items & evasion from Combat Reflexes are treated differently (in terms of calculating hte chance to be hit). The evasion % from CR is applied directly to your chance to be hit, giving a "new", lower, chance to be hit (so if you're getting +25% evasion from CR, your new chance to be hit = old % chance to be hit * (1 - evasion %)). So if monsters had a 50% chance to hit you before CR, & you've got +25% evasion from CR, your "new" chance to be hit = ~37% (I've got screenshots of this & the numbers work out to within ~1-2%).

Evasion from items is different. First of all, there's diminishing returns kicking in, so equipping 5 items with +25% evasion won't give you 125% chance to evade (far from it). The sum of all your evasion bonuses from items & CAs/buffs is shown on the sigma tooltip, they're then converted to a "true" evasion % which is shown on the Inventory weapon damage tooltip. This figure is then applied to your chance to be hit in the following formula: new chance to be hit = "old" chance to be hit * 1/(1+evade %). So with 50% evasion from items, you're only reducing your chance to be hit by 1/3.

Damage reflection is a straight % chance, so ~45% of all the attacks that would have hit you will be reflected.

You're probably not being hit much due to the combination of your evasion & damage reflection. If that's your "true" evasion %, then it alone is reducing your chance to be hit to ~53% of the pre-evasion figure (so you're getting hit slightly more than 1/2 as frequently compared to if you didn't have the evade %) & damage reflection is then reducing that by a further ~45%.

The only thing I don't quite understand is the sequence of the to-hit calculation (which involves evasion, reflection, defence & block). I'm also not quite sure whether both evasion chances are somehow added up & then applied.

Edit: Oh & welcome.

Set item bonuses are based on a combination of item level & the difficulty they were found in (some increase with difficulty but not level, others increase with both). Set completion bonuses are only dependant on the difficulty that you're currently playing in.

Alright, thanks. Since I don't have CR or any of that jazz.. I've determined it was my 'true' evasion, which explains it. Shame I can't be untouchable.

Reflecting seems to be more effecient.. Shame it doesn't effect all damage types at once, ah well.

And as a note, not to change the subject of my own topic, but I've had threse set pieces from Niokaste's Blade Dance (Gloves, Arms, and Feet), my character's always been played on silver, and I've got the items from drops (So someone didn't trade me a bronze item).. But a few levels ago (..42?) I had +5 Exalted Warrior Focus as a set bonus.. And now I have +6, it's quite odd. And this would be, I suppose, the set completion bonus (As it states it in the ever so helpful 'Weapons and Armor Sets'... Thing)

Odd, but thanks again.

.. Must find more damage reflection!

Edit: Now it's at +7? Level 59.. Still on silver.

Based on the fact that even with High Evasion I know that Reflect triggers at it's listed rate the order of effects is:

Reflection

Block / Evasion (Order of these two won't matter, but they aren't added together, it's one then the next)

Defense / Spell Resistance (I'm assuming)

Armor

Mitigation (Using it before Armor seems pointless based on how they work)

Warding Energy Effects

Life Reduction
