  1. On trimming inactives: OK, I will boot Esfan from the alliance later today. OMGSTUFF is at 34 days (I), so his account will be deleted by the system in a day or two if he does not log back in. Master of the Nuts is in (v) and has not logged in for 10 days, I was not under the impression that he was planning to return. If that is the case, we can boot him. He does have 66K ships. So, if he or someone is inclined to use those to hit Spanky, that is another possibility. Exile (BHJ), Toret, and Yarasa are all in (v) mode and I believe simply holding accounts at this point. If that is the case, they can also be booted. On hitting Spanky: Spanky's fleet is: Resources on 1 (Moon) [3:88:4] (Player 'KOVALSKY') at 05-05 15:22:43 Metal: 2,095,270 Crystal: 669,513 Deuterium: 2,212,359 Energy: 0 Fleets Small Cargo 19,547 Large Cargo 7314 Light Fighter 215,817 Heavy Fighter 40,042 Cruiser 40,000 Battleship 21,000 Colony Ship 97 Recycler 16,008 Espionage Probe 3945 Bomber 1114 Destroyer 1935 Deathstar 4 Battlecruiser 4362 If people who would be interested in crashing into Spanky could list fleets, recs, nearest planet/moon to 3:88:4, and deuterium/time cost to arrive, that would enable us to plan out what we can do, and what resources we need. Recs could be launched way in advance and fleets could be sent to arrive in up to 4 hours or so if necessary. My fleet at present: Small Cargo: 1000 Large Cargo: 1200 Light Fighter: 8500 Heavy Fighter: 5500 Cruiser: 10,500 Battleship: 1070 Bomber: 105 Destroyer: 3450 Deathstar: 55 (Pending the death of Moon @ 2:236:6) Battlecruiser: 1600 Recycler: 7000 Nearest Moon: 3:111:10 - But I will probably drop a colony in SS for the attack as it would enable me to send RIPs. - Ike
  2. First off, a special Thank You to GoGo for everything you've done. From your efforts in oGame to here at FDM . . . including letting me use your account. It is greatly appreciated and phenomenally well done. As for the future of oGame, I don't know that Uni9 has much of a future left. I've been playing now for about 26 months (not including a couple of months when I took off after my Jan '07 Goodbye hit). The Uni was starting to noticeably fade at that point and now it seem particularly hollow. There are still some fleet and fleeters, miners, turtles, aggressive players, farms, but the spirit seems to have gone. Just looking at the HoF board, you see a few people posting, but very little activity. I can't even recall the last probe I got. For me, I am definitely leaving oGame very soon. My wife is expecting our first child in August and with goings on at work and preparations to buy a house, move, and have a child, I simply do not have the time or inclination to press on. I intend to take out at least the one Spanky moon that is currently the bane of my existence (and RIPs). But other than that I don't see playing further. I am a bit concerned about the level of activity among the current oGame players. Not concerned that people are not doing enough so much as concerned about what it means for D.a.r.k. in oGame. If we cut back to *really* active players, we would probably be back in the single digits. Personally, I would prefer to see D.a.r.k. go out with a bang, rather than a whimper. It seems either that we boot the (v) mode players and account holders, and add a few dedicated people to get to about 9-14 really active players, or we jointly decide to pull the plug and do something Epic. If it is Epic we want, I think we could reasonably take out Spanky's fleet. It is parked on the Moon @ 3:88:4 and has not moved in about two weeks, other than to try to prevent me from hitting 2:236:6 once. From 00:00 to 07:00 every day, the Spankster is offline. It would not be too hard to hit his fleet, just a question of whether or not we have enough fleets to totally destroy him. If this is of interest, we should probably act quickly, as one never knows how longSpanky's lethargy will last or if he will hand the account over to someone else. Thoughts, comments, and concerns welcome! - Ike

  8. "Like with like" generally refers to grouping things or sets of things that are similar. So to put your fruit like with like, you would group apples with apples, bananas with bananas, and oranges with oranges. [Or perhaps citrus fruit together, apples together, and bananas/plantains together.] As a side note, ideationally isn't really a word. To the extent that it is, it is not in common usage. I would replace: "structurally and perhaps ideationally" with "in terms of structure, and perhaps ideas." They may actually mean 'ideals' instead of ideas as well. Hard to say. - Ike

  10. Given Spanky's lethargy of late, I decided to see what would happen if I went after his G7 moon. It is much smaller than the others (4898) and has no JG. So I launched the RIPs yesterday night on a 23-hour one-way odyssey across 212 SS. They arrived after the Spankster normally goes to bed, so I figured they'd be pretty safe. In addition, as his fleet is all on one moon, with 2.5 MM deuterium, and his closest JG is now two galaxies away, it seemed unlikely he'd bother to try to save it. So I watched his fleet moon and Main throughout the day and occasionally probed to make sure his fleet was still intact. No movement. I sent five waves of one RIP each. Each wave had a 31% chance to blow up the moon and a 34% chance of being destroyed. Overall, an 84% chance to take out the moon. A little better luck on this one, getting the average, 1 RIP lost, Moon gone after three attempts. The really strange thing, two hours after the moon blew, all of my RIPs returned to the moon . . . 21 hours early. 11. RIPs returned, I sent them on FS, and after Spanky went to beddy-bye I re-launched. I only had 16 handy as it takes more than 24 hours to send them across a galaxy, so more will be there for tomorrow. Still, overall a 52.79% chance to kill the moon on this pass and 81% between this and yesterday's hits. These were sent kinda late, so due to RL commitments, I may not be able to resend tomorrow. I'll need to send slowly and earlier. Tricky. Meanwhile, I have five waves of 1 RIP each heading to his G7 moon, which has no JG. Well, another 6 RIPs gone, 14 total lost against this moon. 12. Well, the second my RIPs returned from destroying Spanky's G1 moon I sent them back to G3. I sent a colony ship to 2:236:7 to arrive 5 minutes after my RIPs returned. When the RIPs got back, I blew the 1:234:14 planet/moon. Once the new planet was in place, I sent cruisers, recs, and cargos in one wave and RIPs in a second wave. After the RIPs arrived Lord Tiago succeeded in getting me a moon (4th attempt) and I moved the RIPs to the moon. I then did a short FS, watched Spanky and as planned, he visited all of his planets around 22:30 and never returned. When my RIPs returned I sent six waves of four RIPs. 13. If your Visa is granted, how long would you have in order to use it? Would it make more sense to wait a couple of weeks and then put in your notice? That way, if the Visa is granted after one month, you have a couple of weeks in your current job. If it is not granted for two months, you are only short a couple of weeks and may, as Gial notes, be able to extend your employment by a little. I also agree that discussing the situation with your boss (depending on your relationship) is probably best. Amazing how much latitude you can get when you and your boss are working together. - Ike
  14. I was scanning the area looking for something to crash, preferably with Crystal or Deuterium-a-plenty. I saw this fleet sitting on a moon. I checked his Main and there was a *. "Grrrrrr," I thought. But I did a quick SIM to see how many BCs and recs I would need and jumped some fleet and recs. I tried to launch recs, but no DF. I did not want to probe/attack-probe for fear of alerting him if he was online. But after about 10-15 minutes I checked and there was a 15 min on his Main. So I launched BC and three waves of cargos . . . then got lagged for about 5 minutes . . . and launched two more waves of cargos and my recs. I watched, but no more activity. Fleet hit, three waves of cargos hit, and then he came online and removed the last 200K of deuterium and 50K of crystal. Fortunately, he did not try to build recs and grab the DF. He sent a note that his dog had just attacked their backroom. Good boy, Rover! 18. Well this went a lot more smoothly than my first Spanky moon destruction. A lot cheaper too! After moving my fleet back from the first attack colony I deleted the planet and dropped a new colony next to one of Spanky's more frequently-used moons. Due to it being in a high-traffic area, I thought it best to get a moon there as well. Got one on the third try [thanks to trd and JaFoste] and gave out a pair of moons to boot. Spanky then moved his fleet to the moon and prevented an attack. However, then he started to be all sneaky and FS his fleet from his moon to the DF using RIPs. At first he did this at 20% (~3.5 hours) but a couple of times -- when I was not prepared -- he did a 10% FS (~7 hours). That would be enough for me to launch and destroy the moon while he was on FS and thus strand his fleet in G1 -- 200 SS or 1 Galaxy from his nearest JG. Sadly, as I noted, I missed a recall on my FS the one time I could have really taken advantage of this and it was too late to launch by the time my RIPs returned. The next day, I made sure my FS returned in time and I launched 12 waves toward him (6 to G1 and 6 to G3). However, he came online late and saw them, so I recalled. An hour later he went into (v) mode. He came out for a few hours two days later and then popped back in. Two days later, with my RIPs at the ready, he came back out. I checked and his fleet was at 1:458, so that night I launched six waves of four RIPs each (14% chance to destroy moon and 46% chance to lose RIPs) and none of the RIPs died and the moon survived. Go ahead and do the math on the probability of THAT happening. So I sent the RIPs on a day-and-a-half FS and prepared for today. Around 18:00 server time I decided to send six waves of four RIPs each at his G3 moon in the hopes he would move his fleet (which was back at 1:234:13). He came online a couple of hours later and sent: Hello! To which I replied: Howdy! but did not recall. An hour or so later I saw activity on 1:234:13 and 3:88:4. I went out to the movies and returned just after the system reset. No activity on his Main since the reset, so I probed around for his fleet. Nowhere in sight. I assumed he jumped it to 3:88:4 and sent it on a FS to catch my RIPs, but there was also the possibility that he split it and was going to try to both fleets. So I recalled the lead wave going to 1:234:13 and sent a probe to arrive two seconds before the lead wave would have arrived. I was overjoyed when the probe showed no fleet. I was ecstatic when I went to Galaxy view and saw NO MOON! Guess I'll just wait and see what happens in G3, RIPs are still enroute. Wave 2 Your fleet from planet Goodbye lil (Moon) [1:234:14] arrived at the moon of the planet on [1:234:13] of VENTRILOQUIST. Your deathstar aims its alternating graviton shock cannon at the satellite. At first, light quakes increasingly build up on the surface of the moon. The moon begins to deform and is torn apart. Gigantic chunks of rubble come flying towards your fleet. It is too late to evade them. Your entire fleet is obliterated in a hail of rubble. Moon destruction chance: 14% DS destruction chance: 46% I thought I saved a list of buildings on the moon, but I can't find it. There was at least a JG, Level 4 Phalanx, and I think Level 5 Lunar Base. - Ike
  19. Silly people. One slot times four RIPs = 1, times six waves = 6 deuterium. Doesn't look like he took any real precautions this evening, so perhaps I'll go after that moon again tomorrow.
  20. OK, so I got a moon right next to Spanky's moon in 1:234 and moved the RIPs there. However, the Spankster was a little erratic with his FS times, or left his fleet on that moon. Eventually, last week I thought I had an opportunity, but he came back online late and went into (v) mode after I recalled. So he came back out of (v) mode this morning and I waited for all of the activity to die. I launched 6 waves of four RIP each, 6-8 seconds apart. Now the really weird part. Each wave has a 14% chance to blow up the moon and a 46% chance to get blown up. Total chance of elimination of moon is ~60% No RIPs were destroyed and the moon survived. Wave 1 Your fleet from Moon Goodbye Lil (Moon) [1:234:14] arrived at the moon of the planet on [1:234:13] of Ventriloquist. 21. Not much to say about this hit, a basic probe and smash. I was looking around for targets in G3 and came across a juicy target, but it will take a little bit of planning. So I kept looking and came across this beauty. Nice turtled planet below, but the fleet is left on a JG moon with a couple 100K deuterium and no activity. Based on my last hit (on the turtled planet) a few weeks ago, I guessed he would not be too active, and I was not disappointed. Jumped recs, BC and cargos, launched, watched, waited, hit . . . waited . . . waited . . . recycled. _____________________________________ Attacker Ike _____________________________________ Battlecruiser 500 _____________________________________ _____________________________________ Defender FMX198 _____________________________________ Light Fighter 518 Cruiser 290 _____________________________________ The attacker has won the battle! 22. On Wednesday/Thursday of last week the name changed (again) on Cabe's account. This time it is Reksio Komunista. Per Borg, that is a player on the ogame.pl server. I just checked the forum and indeed, I found Reksio Komunista and Yakusa, both in Uni14.pl and Alliance A.K. And Yakasu has "Dark Passion Play" in his .sig, which is the name of one of Spanky's planets . . . or at least it was when Yakasu was on the account. Not long after changing names, he sent me a pm out of the blue (something like: d(*_*)b pills). No idea why. Then he went into (v) mode. Two days later, he popped out for a few hours and then went back in. I am guessing that the account has changed owners again (at least for a month), so people may wish to be a bit wary when it comes back out of (v) mode. Expect some activity and perhaps a change of patterns. - Ike
  23. Got bored waiting around for Spanky to screw up -- he did, last night, but I was not ready due to forgetting to recall FS ontime yesterday. Decided I would scout around and see where I could burn a few MM deuterium in return for lots-o-crystal. Came across this little gem and figured a decent chance a turtle like this would not be too active, so I jumped fleet and recs, launched recs, waited for return of FS with deuterium, launched fleet at 70% Recs were about 38 minutes behind fleet. That's two more RIPs worth of res. _____________________________________ Attacker Ike _____________________________________ Cruiser 10850 (Lost = 375) Battleship 1071 (Lost = 4) Bomber 105 (Lost = 0) Destroyer 3450 (Lost = 1) Battle Cruiser 1600 (Lost = 5) _____________________________________ _____________________________________ Defender FMX198 _____________________________________ Large Cargo 437 Light Fighter 383 Cruiser 1027 Battleship 13 Recycler 14 Espionage Probe 16 Solar Satelite 8586 Battlecruiser 140 Rocket Launcher 20,656 Light Laser 3708 Heavy Laser 225 Gauss Cannon 208 Ion Cannon 25 Plasma Turret 101 Small Shield 1 Large Shield 1 _____________________________________ The attacker has won the battle!
