  1. Bill Gates vs. Michael Jordan Michael Jordan having 'retired,' with $40 million in endorsements, makes $178,100 a day, working or not. If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while visions of sugarplums dance in his head. If he goes to see a movie, it'll cost him $7.00, but he'll make $18,550 while he's there. If he decides to have a 5-minute egg, he'll make $618 while boiling it. He makes $7,415/hour more than minimum wage. If he wanted to save up for a new Acura NSX ($90,000) it would take him a whole 12 hours. If someone were to hand him his salary and endorsement money, they would have to do it at the rate of $2.00 every second. He'll probably pay around $200 for a nice round of golf, but will be reimbursed $33,390 for that round. He'll make about $19.60 while watching the 100- meter dash in the Olympics, and about $15,600 during the Boston Marathon . This year, he'll make more than twice as much as all U.S. Past presidents for all of their terms combined. Amazing isn't it? However... If Jordan saves 100% of his income for the next 500 years, he'll still have less than Bill Gates has at this very moment. Nerd > Jock
  2. KOTR = Knight of the Rose. That was my forum name at SiF, but it was getting to be a pain to type out -- so I shortened to KOTR Everyone still just calls me "knight" tho, so that works too KOTR comes from several sources. The first is from the English civil war -- the War of the Roses. All knights and nobles where affiliated with either the White Rose of York or the Red Rose of Lancaster. Later on I read a series called "Dragon Lance" That also had an order called "Knights of the Rose", so that was pretty cool. Then I started getting into Shakespeare, and I ran across a really interesting quote in Romeo and Juliet, Act 2 scene ii. Lastly I became heavily in an MMORPG called "Rush on Seven Episodes". Appropriately nicknamed "ROSE". So it all ties together. Roses and Knights are powerful symbols
  3. Well you know what they say -- if you wait long enough, everything comes back into style eventually Now here is a little steampunk, BEFORE there was steampunk
  4. try a reboot, and then clear your history and cookies, do a disk clean, and defrag your system. Virus scan would not hurt either. If that doesn't work, then do an uninstall and reinstall. If that doesn't work, then try to redownload the client, and do another uninstall and reinstall. I have checked the forums, and the client is very PC friendly. No one is having problems, so it sounds like there is something on your PC that is not meshing well.
  5. Yes -- I loved Sacred UW for the addition of the Dwarf -- I think that set the stage for the further development of steampunk in Sacred 2. The Temple Guardian is indeed the perfect example of it Maybe one of the subforums, when you get really bored I recently ran across an MMORPG that grabs the theme by the horns. Appropriately called "NeoSteam"
  6. I haven't seen a whole lot about steam punk in the forums. It is something I really enjoy, and I was surprised at the variety of Steam punk stuff around. Books: Leviathan Music: Abney Park: Games: Arcanum: Hardware: Movies: Atlantis the Lost Empire Fashion: Anyway you get the idea. Is there anyone else into steampunk? Anything cool that you have come across?
  7. Have you ever wanted an MMORPG that wouldn't scare off your significant other, that your kids could play, that won't leave you grinding, and that you can simply lose yourself in the ambiance of the environment and the social networking? I have begun dabbling with Luna Online (http://luna.gpotato.com/), and I think I have found such a game. The graphics are bright and cheery, and the character design is moe and anime based. The interface is pretty intuitive. It comes with a tutorial that is quest based, and you'll find that questing (rather than grinding) is the most efficient way of leveling up. When you need a break from soloing, there are for levels of social interaction. Parties are temporary groups where you can quest and fight as a team. Families are smallish groups (around 5) that you form with your closest friends. Guilds (around 25) are found with various families and/or extended families or just of like-minded individuals). And if you meet that special someone that you want to get to know better, there is even a dating option The job tree is very unique in that it is a true tree - it is not linear (http://luna.gpotato.com/?m=game&a=jobs). At the end of the day there are about 60 jobs that you have access too. This eliminates all of the "cookie cutter" builds, and it makes for incredible replayability. It also has a lot of craftable and class items such as wings and other speed and stat enhancers. I am partial to wings, so that caught my attention right away. The game uses n-protect and the devs maintain an active presence ingame, so you do not have hacking, duping, etc. They also monitor to keep the game clean and safe, and they are very responsive to inquiries, problems, and any possible bugs. They also update content on a weekly bases so that the game stays fresh. So, I am looking to see if anyone else is playing right now. If there are enough people already playing or looking to start playing, we can get a guild going and then see where it goes from there Some more official videos http://luna.gpotato.com/?m=media&a=videos Main website: http://luna.gpotato.com/ Official community sites (forum, facebook link, and twitter): http://luna.gpotato.com/?m=community&a=twitter
  8. Universe 1 is back over 1500 people, so it is going to be around for awhile Also unlike the newer universes, Uni1 has the original rule set. 1x speed, ACS attack and defend, and none of that "astrophysics" shenanigans. The only change to Uni one is like 1000 new members, and the redesign interface. Some of us do have accounts in other unis (I have a 800K+ account on uni 27 and 100k+ in uni26) but we spread out and we are not all organized together there and we are all in different clans. Uni 1 is the place were we are all starting over and fresh and and clanning together and getting used to the newer interface. If you are looking to restart in a crowded universe with your peers at about the same level, then this is the time and place to do it
  9. Jewel! It's a strange catch 22 we have going on here... we use that experience garnered from everything we do to help keep us alive... but when it comes to movies, it seems like we also lose something incalculably huge. I do try so hard to maintain a tabula rasa as much as I can, and this forum certainly gives me practice...but is it enough? gogo They will have to come up with new things to scare us, things that are plausible. Nanite plague, bio-engineering run amok, physics experiment/black hole/ exotic matter accident. And ofc the whole spiritual / meta convergence with 2012 coming up will intensify as we get closer Or recycle some of the old stuff. I think that humans have some intrinsic fears that we will never shed nor become desensitized too. They are built into our psyche, our DNA, our collective conscious. Evolutionary fears that have served mammals well will always be a hot button for us
  10. Groovie, Welcome to our little group Ryan. If you have any question, do not hesitate to ask It is all good! Our clan rank is moving up fast, and our accumulated knowledge from previous Unis is really showing now There is going to be a lot of surprise when the locals discover that this group of "newbies" is really a core team of hardened veterans. Mwuhahahahah!
  11. I usually buy Stolis, but I am not too picky.
  12. Jello shots! You're the man When I was in college we used to inject oranges with vodka, and sneak them into University of Arizona football games. Vodka is so flexible
  13. Indeed! That is, hands down, the sexiest Squirrel I have ever seen Hehe that reminds me -- we need a new squirrel wars thread
  14. It is great that you found your way here Neil! I see you found the Ogame thread already too
  15. So glad to hear it Ryan! And yes - -Universe 1 is the one we are in right now. It has a bunch of new people, and it is using the new interface that the other universes are getting -- plus it has the tutorial. Also make sure you are in ogame.ORG. That we we can all hook up and provide clan support
  16. Hey Ryan! You can play as much or as little as you like. The big thing about Ogame that is diffrent from a lot of other games is that stuff still happens even if you log off. So the key is that it is OK to be offline, as long and you prepare it correctly. Some people are miners -- they build up planets with supurb resource mines and defenses, log in once a day to initiate build orders, and log back off until the next day. Some are fleeters, who spend a lot of time online building ships and raiding other worlds. Then they send their fleet on certain expeditions and adventures while they are offline so that the fleet is not vulnerable to attack while they are away. Some people play a mix -- it is all about what you want out of it For the first week or two you can follow the tutorial on and off as you like. New players have special protections so it is really rare to be attacked. You can get an account at http://www.ogame.org/. Add me as a friend if you decided to get ingame and we can get you clanned and get some resources (res) sent your way!
  17. Thanks! The tutorial is almost over for me -- the last step is to build a recycler. Overall I did not care for the tutorial too much. The rewards were modest, and the building sequence was unintuitive and not very efficient at all. I can see it was developed for newer players just starting out, and not for established players looking for a quick start. I am starting to get some res built up, so I can help players coming to Uni1 who are experienced and who want to skip the tutorial. If someone is new, however, the tutorial is probably not a bad path to follow. We have 5 members now, but room for many more
  18. If one were ever curious about what quantum mechanics and astrophysics sounds like when put to music, then you'd be in luck Toss in a voicaloid synthesizer, and some fan based music and lyrics, and some cutting edge computer generated graphics and this is what you'd get!
  19. I love my Canadian neighbors to the North, but I am always suspicious when they complain about the heat. Does it mean that ice is starting to melt outside? Just checking, because in Phoenix AZ I think we define "hot" a little differently than most other folks But here's your Perrier, extra carbonation, and a slice of lemon!
  20. Incredibly awesome stuff! Here is another real life example of what the presenter was talking about -- where creativity and synergy trump materialism and individuality. It is a very Eastern way of thinking, and the West has a lot of catching up to do. And it shows the power of fandom, the power of "working" for pleasure. It starts with a unique piece of software, and explodes into something that in no way could have been predicted
  21. yeh -- WIDD (wounds increase damage dealt) was the ultimate insane build for HC. The trick was to balance it with the proper leech rate and have your thumb resting on the space bar 24/7. Ahhh, the seraphim builds. My fav was the mounted archer seraphim, where direct damage substituted for CAs. And with a backup sword/shield socketed with leech, and CAs/Combo of RBoL and/or holy light for caves and quests. Hehe -- Super Model Build It started off as a joke, but me (being me) had to find a way to make it viable. I was racing against time before they closed the PLUS servers for UW, and I finally had a decent working beta going on the final day. Wow -- all these flashbacks now -- we really did push the game mechanics to the limit
  22. Yeh Kotoko is awesome, and I love her tie-in with games and with project teams. And Touhou is free, (well donation optional) for for sure check out some of the later games in the series. YouTube has all of the best themes of the Touhou games as well -- you can spend ages losing your self with them. I love Alice Margatroid and her themes, but the others are just as good too. I love all the great stuff in this thread -- everyone here has great taste OK so what do you get when you mix Idolm@ster, JAM Project, and Advanced Media Creation Girls? You get スーパーアイドルマスターOG ORIGINAL GENERATIONS
