  1. rapid eye movements -> Homonym REM is either this REM sleep thing or my former ability to check a party room for the most beautiful girl in few nano-seconds.
  2. Feuerschwanz (fire tail) is a german medieval band. Normally doing funny medieval songs in German, like 'Untot im Drachenboot / undead in a dragon boat". But they did also a great cover of ManOWar's 'Warriors Of The World United'.
  3. misunderstood -> R.E.M. The One I Love is often wished in radio as a love song - but it isn't. And yes I listen to radio and not a mp3 player when I drive a car. I like the randomness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_One_I_Love_(R.E.M._song)
  4. homoiothermic -> cold-blooded Cold-blooded horses encompass the draft breeds such as Percherons, Shires, Clydesdales, and Belgians. Large-boned and heavy-bodied, these horses were developed to use in draft and agricultural work, and were selected for a calm temperament.
  5. In averagen every 9000-10000 years a vulcan eruption happens at my place. The last was 13000 years ago. And yes, we get little quakes up to 3.5 a few times a year. Montreal -> Ugly The Montreal is one of the more ugly cars from Alfa Romeo. The sportscar before they built the Montreal was the Stradale, better name and design in my unholy opinion.
  6. Our second came with lot of origami stuff at weekend. She has to do a lecture at university to other students how origami is used in orthopedics, heart surgery, ... We were the testrun and had a lot of fun folding thinks. My brother has a origami cayak boat. I works fine but at my place: too much wildwater with stones.
  7. Final check after my whiplash. Got allowance to work with explosives again. But I felt weaker than before the check. Docs asked me if I would spend blood because they allways run low around summer breaks. 0-negativ
  8. No rain for weeks. Luckily we were creative last year and built a reservoir for water in case of a nearby forest fire. That it looks like a swimming pool was not intented or planed. Daily tests for ruptures in the ceramic tiles are done. Other call it swimming in a pool. But since it is a water reservoir I call it savety tests.
  9. six million dollar man -> nurse They are testing exo-skeletons attached to nurses to help them lifting heavy people, both passive and motorized ones. Out second is at university: orthopedics and robotics. A classmate lost both arms down to the shoulder plates. This made her considering this combination of fields. The exoskeletons for nurses cover both aspects too. She says they are a great help.
  10. stars -> Hollywood Walk of Fame But I think for us Germans finding a place in Walhalla is more important. Around 200 people found their place in Walhalla.
  11. Sagacious -> Sagittarius My zodiac, but very close to capricorn
  12. Confucius -> Chattius It is sad that whenever I say something clever and philosophic of my own - the person I talk too asks 'Confucius, or?' I have a doctor in pholosophy after all. Okay it is because mathematics were for more than 400 years part of philosophy at my university. This is my result with lot of wisdom and not from the other Mr C : Imagination is more important than game guides, because a wiki has only a limited number of guides
  13. humans -> confusing If homo sapiens shares 98% of genom with a chimpanzee, but west europeans have up to 2.5% genom from neandertals, are west europeans less human than chimpanzee? There must be a reason why I was nicknamed Monkey as a goalie when I was young.
  14. hold the line -> outdated My direct ancestors were mainly hunters and forest people. They were drafted into Jäger troops and not into line infantry. They were using forest for cover and sniping enemy officers to break morale. Mounted to change positions quickly or scout. Much like The Patriot with Mel Gibson but fighting for the British: Defending a farm at Waterloo, stopping US invasion into Canada, ...
  15. aerospace -> AKAFLIEG At university we cooperated with some Akafliegs, We did some mathematics for their glider wings. Was lucky because I had a glider license and could test one of their ideas, sadly not the one I wanted
  16. effort -> Stuka Some years back we had a female little owl in our barn named after the dive bomber: Stuka. One wing was mauled probably by a fox. But she was breeding every year. Doing a spiraling nearly vertical dive on insects and mice and then hopping the ladder up again to her nest. In winter we placed some meat. We put rings on the nestlings and this year one of them was breeding again in the barn.
  17. ego -> egoistic I was allways happy that the country-road to our house was keeping dates for my daughters away who needed sport-cars with low spoilers to boost their ego.
  18. I have -> a Lamborghinetta what a long word for a small tractor dismounted and waiting for an overhaul for three years, if I find the time. Our glider had and the Corrado of my wife had priority Mr Lamborghini built tractors before he told Mr Ferrari that he was dissatisfied with his Ferrari car. Ferrari said that Mr L should stick to his tractors and Mr L said to Mr F that he could build a better car. The rest is history. But these italians have so cute names: Lamborghinetta Picture from wiki, mine is from grandpa who was married to an italian and is in halves on palettes. Colour is oily rust, should be white.
  19. airplane -> Flettner Rotor Sadly there was never a Mystbusters episode about the Flettner-Rotor-Plane. I really wanted to know if the beast was really flying in 1930. Nowadays with better and lighter material the concept is proven.
  20. kpax-> Ohropax Working with explosives: In 1907, the German company Ohropax, which would produce mainly wax earplugs, was started by the German inventor Max Negwer. Ohr is german for ear, pax latin for peace.
  21. Pentacost weekend with its free monday is normally meetings with families of flight club members. Sunday was a bit shocking when a crash of a plane was reported mid in Wetzlar. I did firefighting command at our local place ánd not flying because of my whiplash recovery when the call from Wetzlar came. Our second was flying with our vintage glider with her boyfriend but she luckily reported perfect weather, no problems. Minutes later it was sure: none of our planes. Turned out that it was a glider starting In Wetzlar which went into a dive from 500 metres, hitting a house and then a car. Pilot dead, car driver injured.
  22. vastness of space ->Light-pollution Living away from the city there is no light pollution preventing watching the milky-way. We have two spectives and one telescope with adapters for smartphone or camera. Spectives are really nice for digiscoping: adapting a smartphone to it to shoot photos of animals.
  23. knock-out -> corrupt Whenever there is money involved there is corruption. Axel Schulz was way better than Foreman but money interests made Foreman the winner. Foreman refused a refight. Then Schulz was fighting Botha. Botha was winning but he was proved to be doped with high antipain drugs. Again Schulz wasn't declared the winner. Was this time when I decided to never watch a box match again.
  24. Halley's comet -> Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet Hate to be militaristic. But our bunkers at work were planed for Enzian surface-air missiles. The Enzian was based on the Me163 which was world fastest plane in 1944.
