Timotheus 416
Hey gang, I'm thinking about a future upgrade of my pc, and it's somewhere around these lines (these are lists from various internet shops here): Azerty: * Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD €99,67 * Team Elite,2048MB, DDR2. PC6400, 800MHz, 2x €85,18 * Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro €125,46 Total: 310 euro Alternate: * Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD €99 * G.E.I.L. 2 GB DDR2-800 Kit €89 * Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro €129 Total: 317 euro. Empc: * MSI G33M-FI €92,13 * TwinMos DualChannel Kit 2x1024MB DDR2 800MHz €91,27 * PowerColor ATI X1950PRO €117,71 Total: 300 euro. Salland: * Abit Fatality €103,99 * Team Xtreem Elite €85 * XFX 7900 GS XXX €131 Total: 320 euro. Coolprices: * Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R, €111,95 * Kingston 2GB DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel Kit €96,95 * PEAK Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB € 109,95 Total: 319 euro. Now, I'm wondering whether I should get a x1950 PRO vs 7900 GS XXX vs a good dx10 card. That dx10 card will be too expensive though, to get the other gear (mobo+mem), but I'm worried the rest of my system (Intel 6420/533 mhz ddr2 and a bad mobo) will be a bottleneck. What do you guys recommend? I read some good reviews about those 2 dx9 cards, with the x1950 pro looking slightly better. Hope to get some opinions Link to comment
promatolya 5
I got mine off some german website I payed a total of: 1400 dollars (which in europe isnt much for the following stuff) 2.6 GHz dual core processors 21inch widescreen monitor designed casing extra fan 10 USB ports 7900 GTX 512 MB graphix card 2gig SDR Ram memmory 320 GB Sata 2 Hard drive (external) 180Gb Internal surround speaker system an Ipod (yes I know, single shipping costs ) a new keyboard cd/dvd writer/reader (all in 1 module thingy) do note that when I bought these stuff, the 7900 GTX was out just a few weeks, and the dual core like a month or so, it was the hottest rig of the moment at that time... birthday present from entire family ... got the neatest stuff back then Link to comment
Timotheus 416
The 7900GTX is still rather expensive, I can almost get a 8800 for that price. The choice I need to make is whether I'm gonna take a 8800 gts 320 vs an upgrade set with a dx9 card. And I'm leaning towards the option, since that will be better for the overall system. So that's the reason I cannot afford a 7900GTX (they are rare these days) because I only have about 120 euros left for my graphic card. Link to comment
gogoblender 3,078
I"m sorry Timo, I don't have much to offer you here, I'm no cmp expert...but I'm curious...is this the machine that you're planning to use for Sacred 2? gogo Link to comment
Timotheus 416
Yup it is. You might remember 501105 aka leeg###? He's Dutch like me, and I have him on MSN; he recommended me to buy a 8800GTS 320 instead of the mobo+mem+gc kit, since he doesn't believe the it will be bottlenecked by my system (2gb 533mhz ddr2 ram and a C2D e6420 at stock 2,13ghz since overclocking is a bit hard with my current mobo). Plus, the 8800 is the best card for dx9 now, as well. So, I'm having mixed feelings. According to him, it's better for my rig to get a mid-high range vid card, instead of overclocking options. And that may very well be true, for all I know. *sigh* lol I thought my system was too slow for a gfx card with that potential, but according to him it may be bottlenecking a bit but it will only cost me about 10% performance max. And when you look on the sheets at tomshardware.com that still makes it a darn good card. Link to comment
gogoblender 3,078
I just checked out specs for you purchase against what they say sacred's going to need to run with. I think you're sitting pretty here regarding being able to run the game. Wow...I think I'll have to start saving as well. gogo Link to comment
Timotheus 416
My setup wasn;t that expensive at all. I bought my current pre-assembled system for about €700. Now, at online webshops, the prices for my mobo, mem and gc total up to about 210-220 euro, this is what I'd have purchased other stuff for when I would've assembled it myself. My total setup (for now): C2D e6420 2gb 533mhz ddr2 ram Asus p5vd2-vm Sparkle 8500GT 500GB SATA hdd 7-in-1 cardreader LG dvdrom player iirc. Not too shabby for a pre-assembled system IMO. Now: still thinking about whether replacing the gfx card or more of the kit; today I found out I can purchase 7900GTX 512 MB for about €200, that's also a solution. Dx10 isn't really worth it to me atm to buy a 300 euro card I think, especially since it's such new technology. Edited August 16, 2007 by Timotheus Link to comment
OMGSTUFF 2
Definitely a reasonably priced setup. Congrats and have fun! Link to comment
Timotheus 416
Thanks stuff To be honest I'm kinda wondering now about what everyone else is using actually.. I've come to the conclusion a 7900GTX isn't the right card for me atm, price-performance wise. The 8800GTS costs only €60 more, but the gain in power is way above that 30% price difference. I think I'll buy a €150 max new graphics card, and it'll be a dx9 one, so, either 19XX or 7900XX... Hope that'll be a good solution though... Link to comment
Timotheus 416
...7900 GTX 512 MB graphix card ... Prom how is that 7900GTX working out? I'm actually thinking of buying a GeForce 7950 GT 570M Extreme which should be able to be clocked to almost GTX speeds, but it's a passive card. Link to comment
501105 0
I would suggest to wait a bit longer till the 8800gt comes out Link to comment
Timotheus 416
Dude. I know you'd suggest that, you've been telling me to wait/get a 8800gts for ages. *whacks 501105 with his keyboard* Link to comment
501105 0
I would be careful with that you cant afford a new one Link to comment
Timotheus 416
Dude don't make me start an "I need a new keyboard" thread Link to comment
501105 0
Well tbh the current one does smell like somebody spilled beer on it Link to comment
Yarasa 0
I don't think you will have a bottle neck problem with your current main board. It supports 16x pci express slot which all you need. If I were you, I will not change anything else but the graphic card. Link to comment
Timotheus 416
Yeah that's my conclusion for the moment as well. I'll get a new motherboard and memory when I need some more proc power. Link to comment
