  1. We're in the Lost and Lonely Ones guild. Min join level is currently set at level 15. Seems like a decent group of people.
  2. Yeah, I hear ya We're going to have a test of the 4e system this upcoming weekend; a friend from out of province bought the books and wants to run a game when he's home, so we're giving it a go. We made charaters last night in preparation before we played our Pathfinder game... it was an interesting experience. All in all, it seems like 4e is designed to be basically a revamped version of the minis game for regular table top... or WoW mechanics for table top... Don't consider having a story/plot, it's all about hack n slash... and the very essence of what D&D has been has been eliminated (as you noticed). But, we're giving it a shot since someone bought the books, despite the fact that we think it's going to be garbage They don't even allow summon spells anymore!
  3. I think it is. I don't think I used the Infernus set, but Kel did, and it seemed to do her pretty well.
  4. Here's a site that has where to find quests, maps of areas and a bunch of other in-game info. http://www.fallenswordguide.com/quests/ As for selling, click on "Actions" in the left menu, then click "Auction House". You can buy and sell there. But again, be careful when buying, all items have a min. level to use. I wasted gold early on on items that were way too high in level for me.
  5. Gene, some of the rules for 4e can be found here if you'd like to check it out.
  6. Hey ho, D&D gamers! First up, who here plays (or used to, or wants to) D&D:) If you're a current player, without doubt, you know all about the recent release of D&D 4e. 4e is a MAJOR revision of the game of D&D, an intense simplification of the rules. While D&D has suffered from convoluted rule sets in the past, from what I can see, 4e makes it run more like a video game than a table top game. I'm probably going to give it a try next weekend for a session, but for the most part, the concept isn't being well received amongst people I know. There are many of us who think that the 3.5 rule set was pretty good but in need of some tweaking... with 4e looking like it was going to completely change the game, some people began working on an updated rule set to improve upon the shortcomings of 3.5 while not tossing the entire concept out the window. Pathfinder RPG is that product, and is currently available as a free download of the Alpha 3 release of the rules. They expect to have the final rule set complete and available by August 2009. Pathfinder represents some key changes to certain 3.5 rules, while maintaining the good elements. Races, classes and elements of the skills and feats have been altered, BUT, part of the project goals is to maintain backwards compatibility with 3.x published material (with minor conversions required). It is still in development, however, so it's not perfect... but, the producers seek feedback on what does and doesn't work... essentially, they're releasing the Alpha rule sets for the general public to play test for them... and it's kind of fun to take part in that discussion. I recently started a Pathfinder campaign and it's seeming like a fairly good chunk of rules. If the ideas in 4e aren't tickling you fancy, you should check it out. My opinion stated... what do you folks think of 4e? Anyone try it? Anyone else try Pathfinder? What have your classic experiences been with 3.x, 2e and 1e:)
  7. Through the auction or through direct sales to other players. More often than not, I simply destroy exess items if they don't sell, to free up backpack slots. Currently I'm level 87. Yeah, there are quests to take that will give you extra items, gold and/or XP. It's not a story based RPG by any stretch though, it is hack n slash Fun time waster though. Your D&D gaming has inspired a new thread elsewhere in the gaming forum
  8. I'm currently reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker. It's an interesting book in a parallel, or mystical Earth, with Fey influences. It's pretty dark. So far this year, amongst my Masters work, I've read a couple other books; I'll give some links to little reviews I wrote on my messageboard. They might direct you towards some reading: .: The Eyre Affair - Jasper Ffjorde .: The Lies of Locke Lamora - Scott Lynch .: The Diamond Age - Neal Stephenson .: Stardust - Neil Gaiman... not sure why I don't have a review for it. I thought I wrote one. I also read a few in the Star Wars line that I didn't review; .: I, Jedi - Michael A. Stackpool .: Allegiance - Timothy Zahn .: Splinter of the Mind's Eye - Alan Dean Foster .: Darth Bane, Paths of Destruction - Drew Karpyshyn ... all of which were enjoyable for different reasons.
  9. No problem. Let me know if you need anything. I added you as an enemy, but only because it only allows so many allies (without paying for upgrades).
  10. SInce I mentioned it in another thread, Tomi has joined the game, so I figured I'd make a thread for the game. I've been playing another browser based RPG called Fallensword that's set up somewhat like a classic D&D dungeon crawl type of game. It's a graphical interface where you roam around on a map encountering monsters and other players, collecting XP, gold and items from kills. There's a tonne of equipment (a lot of it is level dependent) to equip yourself with and stats to augment at each level. It's pretty well made for what it is. There is a paid element to the game, Fallen Sword Points. They can be used to buy upgrades and equipment... but you can get the points for free, as well as simply buying them. So it is possible to upgrade your game without putting money down. Check it out if you like.
  11. The Smiths - Panic "Hang the DJ, 'cause the music that he constantly plays says nothing to me about my life..." "Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ..."
  12. I donated 300 last night, 200 this morning. I'm playing Fallensword, another browser RPG that's more adventure/dungeon crawl in format than this, and it has a handy guild log feature that keeps track of when people donate to the guild and how much they donate. That would be a great feature to have in this game too.
  13. Ooh, crappy. Mind you , I'm not seeing a lot of difference in how the game plays as I get higher in level. So starting over is pretty much the same as playing normally... unless your rank is really important to you.
  14. Cool. I only have 25 gold at the moment and another 6hr of working to go; I'll make a deposit a little later on.
  15. Feel like housing another guild mate?

The movie looks pretty solid, overall. The animation looks superb, and it's your classic "save the world, goofy hero" comedy tragedy mixture. Sure, he looks a little bit too much like Johnny 5, but that's endearing too.
  17. XD formatting is somewhat different actually. The XD format is much better at compressing data without loss; you'll hold a fair percentage more on an XD card than you will on an equivalent SD of CF card (ie. 1Gb XD vs 1Gb SD or CF). The problem with XD is that they're also more prone to failure/corruption than SD or CF... probably as a consequence of the much greater compression.
  18. XD is actually a proprietary card format as well to Olympus, though Fuji also use it. I'm not sure exactly what the deal is with Fuji... they are allowed to use Olympus' XD memory and their SLRs are allowed to use Nikon mounts But yeah, Fuji cameras are decent quality too... but again, their a photo industry brand, rather than electronics. I just forget about Fuji because there isn't a Fuji representative in my region, so they're only available through a couple vendors here.
  19. My suggestion is to avoid cameras made by electronics companies rather than photo industry companies... Panasonic is an exception and Sony's SLR range is also exempt (they're actually Minolta, since they purchased the company)... The main reason for this is the difference in the company's focus (no photo pun intended); electronics companies make gadgets, photo companies make cameras to take a good picture. My suggestion would be to pick up a Nikon, as they'll give you a better warranty than the others... but in terms of glass/image quality, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, etc are all pretty much on par with one another. Decent digital cameras are very cheap these days, you can nab something fairly capable with good image quality for about your price range. Of the two you're looking at, I'd agree, at a glance, that the H9 is the better choice.
  20. Not really. My wife and I have been scraping by with our daughter for the past six years... you do what you can. While sometimes you have to temporarily take a crappy job during lean times, when it comes to a long-term career, you really can't stick with something that you can't enjoy. In the end, it's worse for your family to have a miserable parent. Miserable parents = miserable kids.
  21. Misery isn't worth a pay cheque. You've gotta like what you're doing or you'll be ground down to a miserable, bitter person from the weight of it... and money won't offset that misery. Though I'm still a student (Masters level), I'm working in an area that I want for my long term career, and am essentially doing what that career will entail (and have had jobs within my area of education as well). I love designing sampling protocols... filed collection is great... even the monotonous aspects of processing and databasing can be fun... certainly there is beauty to be found in it. Even with mundane studies there is a certain amount of novelty to be found. Now the trick will be finding somewhere to hire me to do it I applied for a near perfect job at the University of Calgary... but they didn't give me an interview (probably because I don't have the MSc yet, which was a requirement).
