  1. Well now... I am not a brandy expert, but if my 5c are worth anything I shall share my limited knowledge.

First, it will depend on the type of brandy and the flavours you get from it, also how smooth or "harsh" the mouth feel is.

for a smooth, brandy, I will say have it clean. chilled, maybe if it is very strong and you don't want to get to drunk, dilute with a bit of water, or over ice...

Something that is very common here in South Africa, and I do not enjoy it myself, is Brandy and coke. (or as a real boer seun will say, Klippies en Cola (klippies being a shortened word for Klipdrift, a brandy available here). My father used to drink brandy and water with ice. But a tall glass with a double shot brandy, filled with ice and water. so very diluted.

Brandy pairings with food... mhmmm. something that has a smokey ness to it, and I would say a bit of a fat content that the brandy can break through, I personally would not recommend it with something light like a salad, or vegetable based dish. It might go well with a creamy pasta carbonara, the smoked flavour from the pancetta and the creamy sauce will be offset by the brandy.

Desserts, well, rich, heavier baked puddings, like a brandy pudding should obviously pair well, most chocolate dishes, also because of the smokey hints in the brandy will go well with chocolate and it will break through the chocolate that coats your palette, or have it after the meal, as a digestif with chocolate truffles or madeleins.

    Use the big balloon glasses.

    Hope it helps

  2. Food -> Pork Belly

For the first time, I am making a pork belly. Started by sauteing onions and ginger in my Instant Pot. added some chili paste, and dry spices, like aniseed,  Sichuan pepper, chinese 5 spice, bay leaves, and cloves. seared of the skin side of the pork belly in a hot pan, then added that to the instant pot with (don't judge me now) stock cubes, soya sauce, fish sauce, a bit of water and drizzled a bit of honey on the skin that just stuck out over the liquid.

Pressure cooked on low for 2 hours 15 min. Meanwhile I cleaned up, washed dished, put laundry in the machine, vacuumed spots that the robot cleaner does not get to, made the bed, fed my snakes and cleaned their enclosures, and played Sacred 2. Then I sauteed some more rough chopped onions, red bell pepper, more whole garlic, sweet potato and butternut in a Le Creuset oven dish. Once the Instant Pot was done pressure cooking, I transferred the contents into the Le Creuset and poured the liquid in. and now it goes into the oven for another 2 hours (minimum). I shall check on it later. going to serve it tonight with some steamed bok choi, peanuts and I'll see what other greens are available... To be enjoyed later with a Delicious Shiraz. not sure which one yet.

One of my friends has been using this for a few weeks and says this is the best "value" for fresh veggies and fruits for now.  The pricing is 41.00 CAD and you get to choose whether you want the selection or not, no yes's or no's to any of the choices.  I am looking forward to working with new ingredients every week, thinking of it as a cullinary journey, a curated experience and hoping it will sharpen up my imagination skills with odd new ingredients. The curation, delivery is all included with a drop off at our door, what do you think of the pricing? Put in our top foodies here currencies

    41 CAD  = 32.11 USD = 28.81 Euro ( @Androdion @chattius= 500.73 South-African Rand ( @Delta!

I put the calculations up for the values in you's guys currencies is it good value where you live as well? This is the picture of the box arriving this Thursday

The price will depend on how much off each you get... I can go and buy small amounts of majority of those things and pay less, or I can bulk up and easily double the amount, but feed 10 people for a few days.

It will also depend on where you buy them from. in a supermarket, the price seems reasonable. if I go through one of our suppliers, then it might be a bit less than the R 500.73 South-African Rand. To give you a comparison, A big Mac burger only at Mc Donalds, is R31.00, a medium meal is R39.90 and a large meal is R49.90

It does seem like a nice selection, so I would say worth it.

Halloooo oenophiles! I've come upon a *fancy* lately and after a visit from Mom have decided to upscale our dollar store variety glasses for something a little nicer :4rofl:

I see this pic of a particular style I like... does anyone here :D @Delta! and @lujate know what this kind glass style is called, would it work for mom's favorite pinot noir? I'd probably use it for about anything, but but I really like this shape and w ant it

They should work pretty well for a pinot noir. but as Androdion said, they must have larger capacity than 400ml... and don't warm it up to much in your hand... ideal temperature for red wine is 18.5°C. Here in South Africa, you would not try to warm it up any more, because room temperature is already warm, but in colder climates you would.

    I do like those shapes.

And I am back online! got my new PC, went back to desktop... a friend of mine helped me get everything together...
