  3. Doesn't everyone like a good story? Well if not, tough luck, you are getting one anyway. Locutus sent me a PM about a week ago asking if I happened to have 2500 recs . . . sadly, with a fleet of 5000 ships, half were not recs. He pointed out Sylka's fleet of some minor ships and 34 RIPs, just 4 SS from my paired G1 moons. I suggested that ThE DiO would be interested and was not far away. I asked DiO about it later and he said that Locutus had, in fact, alerted him to this nice fleet. Unfortunately, he waited until deuterium arrived and recs were timed and Sylka came online. We watched on phalanx, and despite having a moon in the area, Sylka did a deploy FS between planets. So DiO timed one such, but Sylka came online. The landing time tended to be really inconvenient for both of us (~03:00-04:00 for me) so we determined to try again for a deploy recall on the weekend when I could afford to get up at 02:00 and phalanx to get the recall time. So Saturday came along and I figured I'd do a little probing to figure out which planet the fleet was on -- so that I knew defenses and such -- and there is no fleet on any of her planets! So I start phalanxing and there is the fleet, 12 hours until deploy. And it is arriving about an hour earlier than normal. So I send a note to DiO and do some calcs, and it seems like 70% is the most likely speed -- her normal speed -- and she had left within about 10 minutes of my probe. This makes sense as their was activity on the launching planet and Main about that time. However, we are not positive and I am loath to have DiO launch for a third time and not know when the fleet will return if she recalls. I am also a little concerned about the early departure as I do not like changes in patterns. But we figure it is to our advantage as the fleet will land about the time Sylka normally comes online and it is a Sunday morning so perhaps she will sleep in just a bit. For whatever reason, Sylka has some defenses but no ABMs on her planets, so I send 59 IPMs and 5 waves of cargos at the target planet, reducing it from . . . 4. I noticed this in the Forum rules about a week ago: I had disabled IP check because I kept getting logged off, although it only happened from time-to-time, it would occur repeatedly when it did. So I unchecked that box and didn't have any problems and forgot about it. Then I noticed someone I was planning to hit was Banned, and they had just come out of (v) mode that morning, so I checked and . . . 5. Interesting that you brought this up . . . when I took my account back post-crash I had to rebuild a ton of satelites and it took a lot of time as my mines used to REALLY $uck -- now they only moderately $uck Eventually, I got around to standardizing my mining levels (currently 27/23/22 and 24 Solar). Because I already had built up sats to support my previous mining level, I ended up with a bunch of excess energy on a number of planets and in fact have not even bothered to build the last level of solar planet on a few planets. It really comes down to MUCH cheaper cost on sats being offset by the possibility of losing those satelites. Because all of my planets (except one) now have gated moons, and I remove all the res from them twice a day, it seems unlikely that I will get attacked too frequently. In fact, I have only been attacked a couple of times in the last six months. So other than for my slot 15 planet, which requires a ton of sats, I don't really plan to build too many more levels of Solar plant.
  6. I have yet to expedition . . . wondering if there is any real point. Normally, most of my fleet slots are pretty busy punishing those around my moons for the audacity of their proximity. However, occasionally I think maybe I should try it out. Hmmmmmm, thoughts? Generally positive experiences or generally a waste of time? Anyone found enough DarkMatter to actually buy something other than a GameForge key fob or an oGame eraser? - Ike

  9. Eleanor has not been online in several days so I figured I'd take out the last of her mini-fleets, the one on her Main. Well, she has another moon now . . . and a bit less res and a few less ships. While I was at it, I did my third day of farming on her planets. Note the extreme lameness of my 'fleet.' 10. Hmmm, hmmm, hmmmm. Tough, tough, tough. I think for me that this depends on the period in my life. In college I watched Monty Python's Life of Brian and Holy Grail a lot. For a while I was watching Four Weddings and a Funeral about every weekend . . . along with A Fish Called Wanda and When Harry Met Sally on a frequent basis. Lately I have been wathcing Love Actually, Notting Hill, and Groundhog Day a lot. I've also seen the Lord of the Rings, the original Star Wars Trilogy, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom quite a few times. However, in keeping with the spirit of the question, I would have to say that I have probably seen Groundhog Day more than any other movie. I just watch it again and again and it never changes.

  12. Well, Eleanor is back in PAX (about a month now) and she is lousy at collecting res from her planets. Since she appears not to be using all that res, I figured I'd liberate a bit of it. Turns out, just enough to build a Nanite 2, which is what I am adding to four of my planets right now. What luck! The following are 5 separate planets, all hits (except the first) were within 15 minutes, the first was ~30 minutes earlier. DF collected within an hour and 15 minutes (first hit) or 30 minutes (second two). I sent recs overnight as they take ~5 hours to arrive at 100% and that would leave the DF for 3 hours. 13. All of my U9 planets are in slots 5-8 [two in 5, three in 6, two in 7, one in 8] except one, which is in slot 15. The slot 15 was a little bit of a mistake, I planted two colonies in the same SS so I could FS my moonshot fleet and ended up getting moons on both. The slot 15 planet has 76 fields (86 with level 2 terraformer) and is home to my main deuterium mine and can be used for IPMs. I normally try to get at least 200 fields, but anything 150 and up is pretty usable, I can always terraform more space if I need it. For some specific planets, like Gravitron planets and IPM or attack colonies, the number of fields can be pretty low. Gravitron requires 12 for research, 10 for robotics, 12 for shipyard, and 1-5 for Nanites. Solar plants and fusion reactors add almost nothing to the equation, so any slot 1 planet with 40+ fields (or less if you plan to build terraformers) works. For new Unis, I would be inclined to keep every colony with more than 30-40 slots until I was running low on planets. Early mines pay off much more quickly than higher-level ones, so you might as well make some res while you are waiting for bigger colonies. I would also be inclined to start colonies in distant/sparsely populated galaxies if mining is the intent. There will be more slot-4/6 G1 planets open later as the (I)s disappear. - Ike

  19. Hmmm, well, I have certainly seen a number of people from time to time regularly go inactive and then pop back out again. I usually make a killing off of people like that and farm them regularly enough that I rather doubt anyone else could be profiting nearly as much as am I. So I suspect that they are just only occasionally active people as I know they are not staying around just for me to farm them, and no one else appears to be hitting them with the same regularity. Often, these people have a fair amount of defenses that I either nuke or flatten with attacks, so I'd know if someone else was after them. There should be no way for an inactive to send a message, 'cause that would make them active. Are you sure it wasn't someone farming them that sent the note? Otherwise something is VERY wrong. Open a ticket at support.ogame.org if you think there is a problem/issue. I've had them respond to me before: for instance, when I started my iIi account and was still under 5K, two accounts attacked me at roughly the same time, one from ~200-300 galaxies away and the other from less than a dozen. Neither had moons, I ninjaed the first and got a message from the second within a couple of minutes that I should not have done that. They were not in the same alliance or anything. It seemed VERY weird, so I reported it to a GO and he replied that he would keep an eye out. Nothing illegal about attacking someone in your own alliance or who left, unless it is pushing, I.e. lower-ranked account allowing a higher-ranked account to attack it.
