  1. It was a dark and stormy night ---- July 13, 1952 ---- the wind blew and the ship rocked and in walked the captain.
  2. Best wishes to Shawn in his real life. Good Luck and best wishes...
  3. What a great thread. My name is Keith. I'm older that dirt (54 now), but still young at heart. I work as a healthcare financial consultant and travelling is the thing I spend most of my time doing. I'm in Longview, TX right now and will be in Milwaukee, WI and Myrtle Beach, SC next week, back to Milwaukee the following week and then on to Nebraska right after Labor Day. The pay is good, but the travel sucks. Been married a lot longer than I was single (34 years). My wife is a RN and works at our local hospital here in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina. 3 Kids and 5 grandkids. Thats fun, those grandkids --- really special! I love listening to vocal music from the 40's and 50's --- Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, etc. Plus artists like Phil Collins, Jimmy Cliff, Janis Joplin, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks and Andre Bocelli. Still a Beatles fan after all these years, too. And when I'm not playing OGame, I dabble with woodworking and re-finishing old furniture, kinda relaxing with a sense of accomplishment when you get done with a project.
  4. Welcome Back, Tim. Wow --- Scotland. It's on my list of one of the hundred things I want to do before I die. And a fine how-do-you-do from your neighbor. And, Way to go BlueRookie --- that's the spirit. /diablo So, Tim, did you bring us a mascot? We could really use a fuzzy four-legged haggis running around the forum, you know. Hey - ain't haggis sheep? /blink Whoa, wait a minute --- a sheep, well it does get lonely around here at night, maybe a good thing! hahahaha... gogo, we're gonna need a sheep smilie...(runs off to find the sheep)
  5. Woohoo, nicely done. 1,000,000+ in profit, deut is covered and then some and a smaller turtle to deal with, priceless!
  6. We were at a party recently and a bunch of us were sharing stories about encounters or brushes with the rich and famous. I thought this would be a cool topic, so here goes mine: In 2002, while working in Washington, DC, my co-worker and I were having dinner at the Old Ebbitt Grill when we noticed quite a bit of activity and some secret service agent-types (you know the guys that talk into their lapels) scurrying around near us. There was about 4 of them and they split and took 2 tables; one right next to us and the other a few tables away. My friend and I exchanged worrisome glances with each other. Shortly thereafter, a tall man in his sixties with his wife and two other younger adults came in and took the table between the two groups of agents. Within a minute or two the man was surrounded by uniformed military personnel, each holding a dollar bill. In turn, the service men presented the dollar bills to the tall man, who autographed the dollars and returned them to the men. The man finally turned enough for me to see who he was --- It was General Tommy Franks, the then Commander of our forces in the Middle East. I thought --- cool I've got a dollar --- maybe he'll autograph it for me. I never had a chance. Just as I stood up, in walked Wayne Newton who walked past me and sat with the General and family. By then the secret service agents who were sitting nearby had moved and were standing in a circle around the General's table and asking everyone to simply return to their dinners and not bother the General or Wayne Newton. Drats --- foiled again. When we were leaving the restaurant and had made our way to the front door, I reached to open it only to have the door open quickly just before my hand hit the door handle. The door was being opened by Sam Donaldson, the then ABC News reporter. He said "Oops, sorry", stepped back and let us pass out the door. I was surprised to find out that Sam Donaldson is a very short man -- He's only about 5'6" maybe 5'7". Well --- quite a night --- three famous folks in less than an hour. My wife and kids once rode in an elevator with Samuel L. Jackson. They were in Montreal (Hi, gogo) at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. He was apparently staying there, too as they rode together from the lobby up a few floors. My wife was so excited, but couldn't remember his name, so it took me almost an hour to figure out who she had just been in the elevator with. So, how about you -- any cool encounters with the rich and famous?
  7. I just completed a 9% hit on a player named Broken Arrow. I've hit him before and for more than the 9%. My experience with him is that he continues to build fleet (LC, BS, Bombers and Destroyers), but never fleet saves. I know I've gotten at least one HoF and a few other hits on this colony and others of his. About an hour after the hit he sent me this message: 08-11 17:04:46 Broken Sword [1:257:11] no subject Hey, I'm trying to get a moon, hence the reason I had a fleet on my colony. Seeing as you can attack with 400 battleships, why I don't I let you know when I have enough ships to give me a 20% chance and then contact you. I'd have a good chance for a moon and you'd get a considerable amount of resources for recycling. I'm fairly certain it's not even against the rules, haha. Sound like a plan? Let me know, thanks. My question is: Now that this is on the table, could this be considered pushing? He's ranked only about 800 or so and I'm 126. We're not talking about exchanging moon shots here, but the fact that he now has communicated this strategy to me is cause for some concern on the pushing question. What you do all think?
  8. Nice! Too bad about the No-Fire Bug and three of them, jeepers. That uses up a lot of deut.
  9. That evening version is an abolute masterpiece... Schot ... you are THE MAN, I thought erialc's AV was about the sexiest one around before, but now there's no doubt! A winner! /thumbsup
  10. Why wait... see my hit against JIN ROH at http://server16.ipslink.com/~darkmatt/foru...?showtopic=1885 Interesting developments after the hits on haad jackal [JIN ROH]: I've been scanned by werner [PAX] and by RIOT [JIN ROH]. I'm sure they are collaborating now...
  11. Zounds...beautiful work there Schot. I really like the blue background...it adds a tremendous amount of eye appeal to the AV. Is there anyway you could capture those subtle trees that frame the character in the original? And I must say that's one of the sexiest AVs around... /wub
  12. Within the last couple of days, I've noticed a weird problem. When I prepare a post, I usually do a preview of that post to check my spelling and grammar. Sometime over the last couple of days something changed; what I see when I do that is: nothing. The text color is either white or non-existent and the text does not display. It will, of course, if I select all and change the text color to black or whatever. This seems to have begun at about the same time I was required to re-log in rather than having the forum remember me and auto-log me in. Could this be related? When I actually post the reply without modifying the text color, the text is black, so I think the issue is within the preview post function.
  13. This is very interesting... Apparently, some users have figured out how to script esp probe attacks. So, in their infinite wisdom, GF has labeled the ability of esp probes to capture and transport resources a bug. And to fix the bug, they will remove that ability. I think the real issue is the script users - clearly a violation of game rules - but no doubt difficult to detect, but a violation nevertheless. The strategy to render the probes incapable of carrying rez removes a viable strategy from the game-play. I've never had a probe army and never probe raided. It always seemed that I needed the crystal for other purposes and it's that way even now for me. I don't believe it's a bug (seems to work just fine) and I disagree with the strategy that GF is putting on the table. I am glad that there's been a lot of good discussion about the issue and that GF has delayed (only slightly) this change. I'm hoping that continued constructive dialog on the OOF will make GF reconsider their "fix". But, I'm not holding out a lot of hope on this one... Maybe they should fix the "No-Fire Bug" first, whadda ya think?
  14. And the lightbulb goes on! It's research. Yep I did overanalyze it and missed the obvious fact. Thanks gintukas... /thumbsup
  15. I'm my own victim of over-analysis: Here's the question - Does an IRN level 1 have to be present on the planets that are combined together to do the research? Should I have a level 1 at my 2 top colonies? ----OR---- Should IRN development be limited to a single planet - say moving it from level 1 to level 2 (effectively combining 3 research labs)? Should I have a level 2 on a single colony?
  16. Ah Hah! They're back. Apparently, there was some mix-up on the multi-accounting issue and they're restored now. !More Targets! /viking
  17. Here's the sad link.... http://board.ogame.org/thread.php?threadid=147673 It was Logitech and an Advanced 20%
  18. jun This is awesome. And yes you are THE ONE to post this most informative thread. Fer cryin' out loud you've got more HoF's than I've got posts (well almost) /bow For the next installment can you comment on attack fleet composition. How do you use SpeedSim. Is rapidfire really a big deal? When do you use fodder like LF, SC and ESP probes and why? How has the new rule (only 6 hits in a day) affected your strategy? Thanks, buddy... a great thread, fer sure!!
  19. Wow it looks like Jin Roh is simply collapsing. I just looked on the pillory and see that Jane the Revelator and John the Revelator along with praesepe are now all perma-banned for multi-accounting. And to think I actually considered re-deploying my fleet to my main to go after them...darn good thing I didn't and waste all that deut.
  20. /drool my ISP and the terrible heat just don't get along. I've been without connection most of the day and just now got it back. I fleetsaved immediately, lost connection about 3 minutes later. It just popped back in now, so I thought I'd send this, in case anybody's looking for me, I'll be at the mercy of the heat and my ISP. Wish me luck until they get it fixed or it cools off. It hit 100 degrees in North Carolina today and with the humidity they heat index was 107. Way too much...
  21. Well, here's what I saw: The attacker lost a total of 335.483.000 units. The defender lost a total of 858.431.000 units. At these space coordinates now float 249.026.400 metal and 109.147.800 crystal. The chance for a moon to be created is 0 %. Maybe this is just splitting hairs. But let some noob post a draw with a 0% moon chance even with the DF big enough and see what happens... But you're right a precedent has been set that makes the rule quite inaccurate. There are a number of 0%'ers posted. Maybe on moons, because moons can't have moons. Maybe the rule should read: Only hits that create a 20% moon chance or its equivalent may be posted.
  22. gogo, you asked what would or could Heat have done to make his fleet less tasty to BWM. How about not leaving it parked on a moon. I'm pretty sure DanCake wouldn't have allowed that to happen. Even with massive defense (15,000ML, 10,000LL, etc.) it still fights to a draw with the attacker coming out with more losses than the defender. However adding 5,000 Plasmas would have turned BWM away. But I was assuming the fight occurred on a moon, so the likelihood of defense is pretty small and not worth the expense. And 5,000 Plamsa's don't come cheap. But, if it was on a moon and I'm pretty sure these were jumpgated moons, why not jump the fleet away. Because you have to be online, that's why! He wasn't! I think the secret is truly in fleet composition and proper use of fodder. Heat simply didn't have enough. Also the addition of 500 Bombers and 1000 Dessies would have given BWM a 91% chance of a win. And Speaking of the win...this massive hit was really a draw. The OGame HoF Rules clearly state: Hall of Fame rules: - Only hits that create a 20% moon chance may be posted. While having the opportunity to crash a top 10 player (even if you're #1) must be pretty neat, I don't think this should qualify as a true HoF and certainly not a #1 hit for the Uni. This was a draw, plain and simple; a massive draw with tons of debris that'll make BWM even more indestructable, but a draw nevertheless. Now with said, I am not going to be the guy that posts: "Hey wait a minute, this hit doesn't qualify as a HoF" and look out the window the next day and see the rest of BWM's fleet 3 seconds from my planet. I wonder what ACS would do?
  23. Aww, man that sucks... Ban Dana has been getting a little more aggresive of late, he has started probing farther and farther out in Gal 7. Watch out for this guy
  24. Our very own D.a.r.k.timer, that's a cool idea! Go for it esfan! /woot
