'See also' test

Recommended Posts

I like it, it's simple and practical. I'll try to remember of it if I never need it.

Btw, you can remove the underscores in the link text though :D

Oh nice idea Echelar. Can you link me to the template page you've created? :4rofl:

http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php5/Template:See_Also

If anyone knows how to do parsing in the template page to determine how many parameters we passed in so we can do something like:

{{See Also|Page 1|Page 2|Page 3}} -> See also: Page 1, Page 2, and Page 3

... that'd be killer. If not, I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

Are this templates written in some special Wiki language or in HTML ? (just curious :4rofl: )

cheers!

In wiki syntax, just like a normal page. I think naming it Template:xxx is what denotes it as a template that's usable elsewhere.

Ok, I figured it out. It'll do up to 3 pages at once now.

The code for the template is a bit ugly, though :)

This is Genius!

lol, and just the thing I was looking for over the last few days. So many of the pages now needs links to each other...and this looks great on the pages.

Good job Echelar!

Thats Awesome!11 I don't know how many Tabs I opened up trying to completely decide where to go with all my skills/mods/attributes while building my character and now that my brothers are both playing and starting different classes I can barely keep up giving them advice :)

It seems it not in use (anymore)?

Is there a rule of how the "see also part" should look like? Which links are a must have and how to figure out what I need to put into a "see also" section?

For example:
imho there is a link missing to the character overwiev page on in the "see also" section http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Aspects

There are a few pages deep inside the wiki without any "see also" sections.

Heya

There is "see also" on bottom of page that you just linked to in your post above

See Also

Is there something you want to change or improve with see also links at bottom of that page you just linked to?

If you look where those See Also links at that bottom of page you linked to go, you will see that they go to pages that we think a reader may enjoy in addiction to his reading upon initial page, or to ideas for other routes of itnerest that may be interesting.

I think max of see also links we were adding at bottom of pages was 5? There could be a topic here, it could even have been me adding it to a few hundred pages back years ago

I think, in a good manner, all pages can have those see also links at the bottom if an editor can come up with more ideas for where continued reading can continue. Clever, smart links that delight a reader by going "ahhhh"

:lol:

Obviously I'm not able to ask most of my questions in proper english, so you guys need to ask my again, what exactly I meant.

I think its not a good idea to ask my questions in german ^^

I try it again as simple as I can:

http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Combat_Art_Modifications -> can't find any ==See Also== in source code

http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Item_Modifiers -> can't find any ==See Also== in source code

But to stick on your post:

I'd like to add *[[sacred 2:Character Class|Characters]] to the "See Also" topic on http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Aspects

cuz imho it's missing to refer to the text on top

From stalwart "tank" to a tactical warrior to the third aspect which involves his dalliance with necromancy, the Aspects allow for an unprecedented freedom regarding character abilities and development.

So there are several option: linking the word Characters or put in into the "See Also" Section or both.

The first time I see the word character after doing a ctfl f is way at the bottom.

As a positive experience, if you feel you can make it "better" for the reader, adding See Also code would be fine. Of course, adding Character is, correctly, the first thing we should think of...but in the case of that page, because of singular instance where good extra information can only be accessed so low at bottom of page, perhaps adding see also is good idea

It's your choice which of the "see also" will work here...there are two...one that indents at the top of written article

http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Runes

and the other way which is a list of up to five links at the bottom, like the last one I showed you.

See Also

For myself, if I was looking to increase user experience, I'd first look at:

  • Are there enough links in the article already, or can I increase reader satisfaction by adding more
  • How many extra links on this page I'm looking at will I need
  • If two or less, put at top, if three or more, put at bottom

:)

You started searching from the bottom, right? :D

I have 4 hits in the first part oft thepage and 2 further down, they is not one single link to the character class page, thats why I thout it's missing in the "See Also" section

http://www.sacredwiki.org/index.php/Sacred_2:Draconicon there is no "See Also" section as well. And don't do any "See Also" sections on the /de pages if there are not existing on the english version. And I'm afraid to not put these on the englsh pages as I have not a real idea on 'how to' create a useful one, but I can give it a try for that page:

(unsorted)

- Dragon Mage
- Aspects
- Skills
- Mounts
