Sacred 2 Main Campaign Synopsis for Wiki

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think about this as a potential project? Finding all the dialogue boxes that are used in game for a main campaign run, and then typing them out onto a single page which we could call the story line synopsis.

This would actually turn the game into an easily-readable story, and the interesting thing is... we may be able to linkify words in this "synopsis" so that peeps, when reading the boiled down version could have it related to the database.

Any ideas or comments for this? It would probably stem from the main quest page as a kind of sub page.

I know I'm dying to read all of the story as a single story, and having it all conveniently in one place could make for really useful addition.

:)

Awesome! lol and you were the person I was hoping would like this because you've been doing so much work with the quests!

Cathy, do we have, let's say, all the dialogue boxes for light and dark? If a synopsis page were to be set up, do you think it would have to be set up like that...or would each class's light and dark synopsis have to be done?

As well, looking at it more carefully now...I'm thinking the dialogue boxes don't offer enough of a real story line...maybe instead a copy out of the log book for this Readers Digest condensed version of Sacred 2?

Good at typing?

I would be inclined to make a note that each class has a different start with links to each start and put in the dialogue starting with Sloeford.

Light Campaign is more complete than Dark Campaign. I'm not sure that either one is complete at this point. I will take a look.

Yes I am fairly good at typing.

Light side is complete. Shadow side goes through Chapter five. However -- I have at least one light side completed and I'm working on shadow side and could get the log books from in game if they aren't up yet on the wiki by the time I get through.

Log books would provide more complete than the dialogue boxes.

Ayup, I was noticing that too... I think that the synopsis can be directly taken out from the log books first as baseline. This would be easier to pull out... and maybe later, seeing how it all formats on the page, dialogue boxes can be fitted in.

This is very exciting, to actually see, in one swoop, the entire campaign story written out like this, a huge benefit to quest fans!

The only text is in the global.res file. Perhaps you could ask czevak if you could get the unencrypted contents of this file? Its quite possible that this will be all over the place with the text it contains, but it may be easier than writing everything from scratch.

I may say that it's possible to extract these dialogs from global.res, but we would have to ask marcuswob (since he's the one who works with quests and texts in CM team) to find the quest IDs for all the main campaign quests. To extract them won't be a big problem, but finding them would. And one more thing: those files would need a MAJOR editing because of formatting and lots of additional quest information we won't need. Since all the game dialogs are quite short, I'm not sure that it would be any faster than typing them out.

And one more thing, are you sure that making this short synopsys would be any faster than a normal long version. After all, for the usual quests the quick and detailed walkthrough both require to complete the quest several times and stuff... And the main campaign seems to be even shorter than some chain quests.

Not really shorter, but a different iteration of events. Right now Quests are comprised of an editor's summation, interpretation of log books, how the quest plays out in game-play and how they contextualize it against their memories of other quests in the game to come to conclusions regarding history, mythic conjecture, etc.

The logbook is someone else's (devs I guess) own version of events. As a point of note, art complet in fact, since we want to ultimately document everything ...having this original work, a synopsis, I've been calling it, could be a link on the quest page written out for a quest that can provide an alternate read, extra read.

Got it. But maybe we should include both logs and dialogs. The logs are very short, they are really a synopsis, and they tell only a part of the original story. For example, out of all the information Leosilath told you in the beginning of the Through the Wall, only the facts that reflect the things you should do next are written in the log. But the actual dialog not only tells you what to do, but also explains a bit why you should do that, and tells you a bit more facts about Ancaria.

I like the idea of including logs. I think the work through would follow like this.

  • Log book as baseline
  • Links from log book to Wiki (this could be tricky... log book story telling may not a all have our usual references...but transforming what the log book has written out into exactly what we know it specically means...like an anemy or place will be fun and a great funness.
  • Insertion of dialogue boxes

From the sound of things, I suspect it would be better to just type out the information in the log books than get the information extracted and then edited. I'm sure CM Marcus is already quite busy with other things involving patch development, we don't need to distract him with this.

This will take awhile. How the dialogue fits into it will probably flow naturally after we see what the story from the logs looks like.

What should the title of the page be? Are we going to try to put both Shadow and Light on one page? Or will we have two distinct pages?

Levied Tax

The village's tax levy has been stolen! The principal has implored me to find the thieves and return the tax money to Senator Gracchus, but the Guard wouldn't let me through. Now I'm supposed to go to the Drunken Elf tavern and wait there for Gracchus.

Inside the "Drunken Elf", a man named Liosilath told me the so-called taxes were really just a bribe and that the entire government is corrupt. He said if I wanted to do some good, I should give the jewels to some teachers on the northwestern edge of town. He also hinted at more adventure if I meet him at the Academy afterwards.

I gave the jewels to the teacher. Made me feel good, actually, I think I'll head back to the Academy and see what Liosilath has in mind.

Through the Wall

Liosilath said the war is bigger than just the clergy and nobility. He's sent me to track an expedition that got lost in the Orc regions. But first I've got to find the secret tunnel into the Human territories. What a strange man - very down to earth. He seems more likely to spend his time drinking beer in the local pub than leading a movement to fight evil.

I have arrived at the wall. One of Liosilath's contacts has given me access to the secret tunnel. This tunnel is below the wall that separates Elven And Human territories.

Long trip, but I found the tunnel. Who knows what's on the other side. Deep breath. I'm ready to go.

I'm not sure how you did that, but maybe it won't take that long after all.

Beyond the Wall

something more, "

I found the guide of the lost expedition. Apparently his transport service wasn't limited to expeditions - he was taking some girls to Thylysium as I approached, he attacked me and I had to kill him.

One of the captured girls told me that another man is behind the Human trafficking. Apparently her sister knows who it is, but she is severely ill and probably die soon. The girl I rescued begged me to find a Scroll of Release in order to save her sister's soul. I should be able to obtain such a scroll at the local healer's.

I received a Scroll of Release from the healer. Now I must take it to the dying girl.

To my surprise, the girl recovered. She thinks I cured her, but I didn't do anything! Apparently the man behind all this is named Enadris and he lives in Orcish Byway. If I want to help the girls, I have to go there and stop him. Also, if he traffics in Humans, he might know the fate of the Elven expedition.

Gar'Colossus

I found the broker scared witless. A Golem was attacking the town, and he said if I killed it, he'd stop the slave trafficking.

The Gar'Colossus has been dealt with. Time to focus my attention on the broker again.

After I killed Gar'Colossus, the broker gave me his word that the women in his region would be safe from now on. He said he'd seen a Golem like this before, in a place where the Orcs say "The magic flows from the earth." That's where the Elven expedition was heading. He also said a strange man was waiting for me at the academy. Sounds like Liosilanth is in town.

The Golem I killed seems to be a giant version of earth elementals that constantly spawn from a magic pool. The Orcs use the area as a ritual fighting ground for their young warriors.

Liosilath claims that there are more of these sites and he would like to learn more about them. At the same time I have to find the lost expedition and attempt to help the Grurag-Clan. Not much on my plate then! I hope I will be able to handle it all.

I do love to type, and I did actually love typing out the books for the wiki when the game was first released... at that time, we had some other peeps as well to help with this. I have a bit more time here, I can probably do another writeup before I have to leave for afternoon.

Among Orcs

I arrived at the place where "the magic flows from the earth". An Orc told me to enter the fighting area and prove my skills by killing the earth elementals. Maybe they will accept me when I am successful.

I have killed enough Earth Elementals. Let's hope that the Orc is satisfied now.

I am supposed to speak to a wise female. Hopefully, she will be as wise as they claim her to be.

The Orc Elder was a strange old lady. She acknowledged I was a good fighter and claimed that she could somehow look inside my head. Anyway, the she made me an honorary member of the Grurag Clan, and now I can travel through the Orc territory without being attacked by Orcs from my own clan.

If I want to achieve anything I will have to talk to the Clan chiefs. My new brother-in-arms tells me that I will be allowed to speak to the leader of the Clan if I can prove my worth in battle. Trolls are attacking a village of the Clan in the west. Killing several of them will be sufficient proof of my abilities and reliability.

I found the place where the Trolls are attacking the ...

Wet Danger

I finally met the clanleader of the Grurag Clan. He says the clans have called a temporary truce to try and solve a problem. Something has blocked the river that flows through the region, backing it up into a lake. A water monster called Octagolamus has risen up out of this lake and it is attacking the members of all the clans. It has become a point of honor to see who can kill the monster, and whichever clan succeeds will become extremely influential in the Orcs' society. The clanleader confided in me that he believes the monster is strong only in the water and on swampy ground. Where the ground is dry, it's weaker and slower. I must escort a shaman to the river. He will perform a magic ritual to run dry the well.

We have arrived at the spring. The shaman will now attempt to dry out the spring with his magic ritual. I better stand aside and let him get on with it.

The shaman dried out the spring. Now let's see how strong the Octagolamus is with dry feet.

I did it! The Octagolamus is dead! This should make me popular with the clanleader!

The clanleader was ecstatic that I killed the monster, because it has earned the Grurag Clan a lot of respect. This might even bring and end to the war between the Orcs.

As a reward, he told me where the Elves of the lost expedition are being held and he said I could set them free.

So I have finally found them! Now I need to know what they have learned!

Unfortunately, the Elves didn't learn very much about the magic leaks before they were captured. All they could tell me is that the leaks are coming from a network of ancient pipelines. The only ones who might know more about this are the Seraphim. I suppose I will be on my way to the angels then.

Thanks Silver, we loves typing ^^

And that page... nice catch, leftover from moves we had to do before. Was only one page linking to it, I redirected and have now deleted the page.

TY!

Most of the first paragraph from Beyond the Wall that is in the log is missing. How are you managing to capture that anyway? It will be a snap to copy the content from here onto a wiki page.
