Nilihanth:

I've been listening to the Mad monster mansion theme alot.

I think it's awesome.

Great work by the composer.

It reminds me even more about my beloved Medievil-soundtrack.

Yeah, gotta love it! That Crystal Caves bit was nice.

Here are a couple more random ones I love...

Skies of Arcadia (loved that game)

The Wind Waker (One of my all-time favorite Zelda games)

Great soundtracks.

Since we're moving into european medieval folk and baroque, I'd like to have your opinion on these ones:

They're from Stronghold, a castle-sim.

It's a fun game with great music.

It's a game where you have to build your castle and keep it going with food, taxes, law etc..

You also have to be strategic about how you attack another lord's castle.

(I just forgot the tactics, and killed all my enemies with archers firing from miles away until I won, haha)

Well, I'm finally getting a chance to listen to them, though at the moment what I've got is a temporary fix. Those are all beautiful tracks you've put up. :) Kingdom of Ixa'taka sounds so cheerful. Zelda is always a classic. Nothing more needs to be said about Medievil now. ;) And what I've heard so far from Stronghold, I could sit back and relax just listening to them. :)

Well, time for me to add some more. I'll give you two versions of the same song. From the game, Soul Cradle (or Soul Nomad in North America), God's Reflection, soundtrack version and arranged version respectively:

There was a point where the Soul Cradle Arranged songs were more addicting to listen to than the Ar tonelico hymmnos, even though the latter is typically the more original. :) And, yes, the Hitman series is just classic. :)

Here's a little piece I always liked. You heard of Zone of the Enders? Here is something from the game that is interesting:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YD_2RwKMaU

The former serves as the theme to the menu of the game, the latter is what it actually says. :)

As such, here is how the theme plays out in full:

And here is how you turn that tiny little theme into a 'you are screwed' boss theme:

Very interesting, Aegis.

But then again.. It's Kojima right?

When is he ever boring?

Let's not forget the epic masterpiece that is God of War.

This is the music that plays when you have entered the temple on Chronos' back.

You have to solve a series of devious puzzles and slay countless enemies to finally reach the Pandoras Box in the end.

Goodness, it is hard enough to remember some of the games over the years, let alone the music !

One that stood out was the music from

It was quite haunting and sort of Arabic.

This is just a clip I found on Youtube.

Steve. :)

I can definately see how the music sets the mood in that game, Steve.

Also, If tried a bit of Might and Magic 8 I think, but I couldn't get into it.

It surely sounds like the Heroes of Might & Magic series, but it probably has the same composer.

This was a game that I put ALOT of hours into many years ago.

The music is great, and so is the game.

I didn't play the first game that much, but it has some great music also.

This is from the menu:

Remember, Sirius, Kojima is God... in a non-religious way, of course. ;) I am no fan of God of War series, but there is one thing I do approve of, and that is in its immersive visuals and audio. You can't deny it is a visual and audio masterpiece, and to watch Kratos fight a Titan of all things, it's just... wow. :) Also, nice tunes for Gothic. Tranquil, I might add. :)

Man, Return to Krondor... how long has it been? It's fun to watch a game with animated sprites and see how far visually we've come along... while at the same time, how backwards some games can be in terms of what matters the most: gameplay. :P Final Fantasy, I am looking at you. @_@

Since we're on an old skool kick, here be a cult classic, Star Control 2. A nice sci-fi adventure game comprising of space exploration in an open environment, a simple yet deep one on one melee with many unique (read: oddball) designed ships (sci-fi stereotypes included), an unusually deep storyline complete with clever humor, the second game in the series is considered the epitome of the series. Years later, the game can be downloaded legally for free in the form of The UrQuan Masters (thanks to the fact that the software is now open source). Oh, and since this is a music thread, you can bet the tunes are also memorable, so much so that the original composers along with a scant few artists formed a group called 'The Precursors', and have created updated versions of the different themes in the game. Amongst my favorites:

Quasispace theme, first the original PC version:

Then the first remix:

Then, for the people who prefer the PC version, the second remix:

Here be the Druuge theme:

And the remix:

The Zoq Fot Pik theme:

And its remix:

My personal favorite mix of them all, though, is the Starbase theme. Here's the original:

And here is the remixed version:

That is suddenly a whole new song right there.

And since I can go one forever and ever, I better stop. >>;

Wow, these are some great themes, Aegis.

They give me a really nostalgic feeling, because this was the kind of music I heard when I was first introduced to computers many years ago.

If you like this type of music, you should check out a genre called "space-synth".

It's a vein of Electronica, and was first introduced in the 70's I think.

I can give you some examples:

My favourites from the album was not found on youtube, but these will give you a perspective to what this genre sounds like.

Glad you liked them. :) And those are some nice pieces of music you got there as well. Do post when you manage to find the ones you like. :)

Here's another one from Star Control 2. Theme of the UrQuan (Kzer Za), the original:

And the remix:

My one issue with the remix, that annoying scratch sound. It's relatively minor, though there will be times it's so noticeable it's distracting.

Try not to be too surprised that I'm going back to Ar tonelico. >> This time I will add a few from the OST to go with the hymnnos.

Some pretty BGM:

I just have to share some more themes from the Heroes of might and magic series.

They are all composed by Paul Anthony Romero, one of my all time favourite composers.

These are truly powerful, and I could totally see them in an epic movie with medieval battles and that sort of stuff.

Here's the theme for Haven, the good guys:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Y447mzPV0

The theme for Academy, the wise and noble magicians:

They live in a monumental floating city, kept in the air by magic.

The theme for Necropolis, the bad guys:

That's just cool. Three cities all with different allignments? I hear opera singers in the first one. Are they taken form another song, or were they hired and written into a custom theme for this game? I've only played Might and magic once, years ago, but the experience was fantastic. Me and some friends were all playing the game on our different computers and constantly talking to each other on how far we'd gotten and giving each other tips and tricks

Great times!

Sorry for double post, but I just found this now. This is my favorite all time theme

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbfpks4V9dA

From Youtube:

A full orchestra interpretation of the greatest video game score of all-time.

Overture - a rousing fanfare in the tradition of heroic epics, obviously influenced by John Williams' Star Wars theme. After a triumphant, brassy opening, the piece fades into a reflective mood.

Bloodpool - culling on elements from Aram Khachaturian, this violent yet whimsical cue depicts the protagonist's perilous trek across the lake of blood and subsequent battle with the Manticore.

Composed by Yuzo Koshiro

Conducted by Kaoru Wada

Performed by the Shinsei Nihon Symphony

And what do you think about Jeremy Soule, Sirius, for guild wars?

:)

Paul Romero has borrowed small portions from other songs and classical pieces in the past, but as far as I know, he composed music for this game exclusively.

Every town has each own theme, greatly mirrored by whether they are good or evil.

There are 6 towns in this game, (2 more with expansion packs), each with their own trademark theme.

In the first game there were 4 towns, in the second: 6 towns, in the third: 8 (9 with expansion pack), and in the fourth game there were 6.

Here is the "Knight" town theme from the second game.

The first part is a harpsichord-piece composed by Bach.

The lyrics are from a psalm, sung in German.

I am not sure if he created the melody himself or borrowed that one as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MrlH51VB5w

The music in these games are reason enough to buy them, if you ask me.

I can only wish they will release a soundtrack compilation on CD one day, as they are doing with the upcoming game's soundtrack.

Mark: none of the themes in the third game featured singers.

Edit: I haven't heard any music from Guild wars, as I've never played it.

Perhaps I'll check it out.

That soundtrack there was pretty cool, Gogo.

Reminds me a little of typical 60/70's sci-fi themes.

Just found this this morning. It's probably my favorite game trailer.

Guild Wars Eye of the North Trailer

Soule in his element, epic epicness... love the trumpet fanfares. I still get goosebumps every time I hear this music

Nice sounding sountrack there, Gogo.

If you liked those HoMM5 themes I showed you, you should check out the previous posts aswell.

I'm sure you would like them.

I think this game was the one that most impressed me in terms of music and still does in fact. I was waaaaay more hooked on this than Mortal Combat. Combo system was so addictive. :D

Aegis:

Those are some great themes!

I can totally imagine Chun-li going apesh*t with her kicks to that song.

Haven't really heard of Juri before, but a good theme anyway.

Schot:

Nice to see you here, Schot!

I never owned a nintendo of any kind, but if I did, Killer Instinct would be my number 1 choice in fighting-games.

I once tried Killer Instinct Gold on a friend's N64.

I really liked it, but I died.. ALOT!

Combining the attacks and combos of Street fighter with Mortal Kombat's fatalities is just genious.

I remember I liked playing as Sabrewulf. (still died ALOT)

Good themes.

They got a real 90's feel to them.

Loved the Chun-Li track as well Aegis. That's what got me thinking about the Killer Instinct tracks I like.

Heya Sirius! Very true about that 90's feel. I thought the same thing when I re-listened to them yesterday. Retro but somehow withstood the test of time. Well... I think so anyway. I could see the first track being used today in some arcade-ish game. Oh and believe me... I died tons too playing Killer Instinct. That was a tough one with all the button combinations and timing. Sabrewulf eh? I always went for Fulgore. :D

@:mr.ioes

Nice additions mr.ioes. Very full sound. Love the drums! Reminds me of another game fave of mine. Our beloved Sacred Underworld. I liked one of the tracks in particular so much that I made it part of our roster page:
