enci 0
Set the capital to build Chichen Itza, hoping for a Great Prophet there. I’d rather have the city produce military (cause its closer to the would-be front lines) and build the wonder in St Pete but an engineer specialist has polluted the gene pool there.Alternatively we can ignore the Prophet altogether and capture the Christian holy city from Nap. as it already has the shrine built. Then we can convert to Christianity. No hammers invested yet, we can choose. Somebody pls tell me that Im not making any sense. A priest specialist produces more GP point than a wonder. And Mystdale even has a temple. Cancel the wonder, build troops and crush the French Myles, Tim, BlueRookie and shadow lurkers: if you have anything to add, dont hold it back. Comments, advices, virtual noogies after bad moves are more than welcome Link to comment
ganto 0
Well enci ..now that you bring it up ...why did you ...hehe..j/k ..you do great!! And Tim, np, join in anytime. Here is my turnset: This time I prepared for war! Cant wait to conquer the world!! And sry, only small notes this time as I lacked a good paper to write on. 1. Took encis advice and swithced from wonder to a priest specialist. Yay..3gp each turn now! 3. Agree with to trade cow for corn with mansa. 6. Machinery -> Monarchy 8. Monarchy -> Feudalism 10. Some trade deals expire and our economy is hit hard; -10 each turn now. 12. Feudalism -> Engineering 14. Border city founded, gak ...cant read my own notes of the city name...hmm..Yaroshov maybe. Idea here was to cut of mansa and also grab that horse resource located there. Summery: I continued to build more catapults and as soon as we had machinery I started producing macemen. Sent our troops to the new founded city to be ready for invasion...weee..D-day is soon here!. I also produced some more missionaries aswell as a courthouse or two. Other than that nothing really exiting happend. My thoughts: We should strike soon. Either we hit nappy hard but my guess is that we will be in for a long war there, maybe mansa is a better choice and also an easier target. Not sure tbh. I expect enci to setup new trade deals; or worst case flash her plastic axe for more money. No conversion still for mansa. Here is the save game Link to comment
enci 0
Ok, we’re going after Mansa. He is liked by everyone, our rep will take a serious hit. Pre turn We have lost trade routes with other civs, thats why trades were cancelled brrr wonder what’s happened, maybe barb activity Cancelled market in St Pete, city produces 6 commerce/turn, at 70% science it means 2 gold/turn -> with market we’d gain 0,5 gpt. not really worth it when we're preparing for war. The people in our capital is unhealthy, they need a more varied diet, capturing resources will help "Grow vegetables!!111" Turn 1 building troops Turn 2 zzzz Turn 3 zzzz Turn 4 trade routes open, setting up deals again Turn 5 met our last civ: Washington, pretty low score, poor guy, must be the universal punching bag of these parts Run out of money for upgrades, looked around without much luck: 60 g from Alex 30 from Cyrus Mansa has refused to help us while he’s sitting on his money bags. We shall remember Decided it’s better not to anger other civs Still not enough money, set research to 0 % for 1 turn Turn 6 WAARRRR ROAARRRR Bombed Niani’s def down, send 2 maces in, the city is ours Turn 7 Asoka cancels deals, he obviously liked Mansa Euclid the GS is born in Moscow, builds academy in the city Turn 8 Alex asks us to join the war against the Americans, checking diplo screen, Washington seems to be popular, I decline, wouldn’t mind a phoney war otherwise Engineering -> guilds (knights) Our main forces are gathered near Gao and approaching Hurrian with a smaller task force Turn 9 The battle of Hurrian: Maceman wins vs skirmisher Maceman loses vs skirmisher grrrr HA finishes off defences Hurrian joins the Dark Empire Turn 10 Bombing Gao Garrison troops includes double promoted skirmishers, send in a suicide cat catapult causes collateral dam and dies we have better odds now our brave Maceman wins and earns city raider II promotion, I name him Boris (after my dog) next Maceman loses grrrrr 3x maceman wins, the city is ours Inside we find that the locals are mumbling strange things like ...The Way that can be followed is not the constant Way… our troops being the simple souls they are, find it all too confusing and decide to plunder the city instead for 142 gold. Now we have 2 holy cities (lost the pics of the epic battle ) Turn 11 Niani is no longer in anarchy, starts a granary Turn 13 Nappy wants us to cancel deals with the English hmmm lets see .... no Turn 15 guilds -> philosophy trying to reach liberalism first, may be too late As Asoka is pleased with us now, I begged at his feet for some money. Also visited Alex again, he knows his place by now, ran to the nearest corner crying while leaving all his money behind for us. *accidentally pressed enter " Some troops are approaching Awdaghost Main forces are near Walata Feel free to split the main force into two groups so we can finish faster Mansa’s only response is an annoying HA near Niani, trying to taunt him into attacking until an offensive unit gets there Mansa already has longbows btw, don’t feel bad about sacrificing a 1-2 cats at a well defended city. He has war elephants also , built some pikes jut in case We’re running a heavy deficit, but as long as we keep plundering cities we can keep up with 70% research Mansa’s land will require a lot of work, everything is covered in jungle. We should spam cottages on every grassland tile of Mansa’s ex-empire, they will take us to the future I kept up the military production in the core cities, I’d like to go after Nappy when we’ve finished with the jungle war. May stretch the economy too far, we’ll see. Some knights would be nice, after those we can concentrate on the economy and maybe replacing some garrison troops (archers for longbows) Switched to vassalage. It has high upkeep but offers +11 free units, so we’re at the same income as before and also get +2 experience for new units built. Considered switching back to paganism, but once we spread conf. in the newly acquired cities, the building bonus will come handy. Save Link to comment
ganto 0
Wow ..great post there enci and my turnset was just about finishing what you started Here is my turnset: My big plan was to wipe mansa completly, my guess was that he had 4-5 cities still but with our forces it should not be any real problems. 2. Capture the city of Walata. No losses 3. Washington demands that we cancel trade deals with the greek. Ehh..nope! 5. Tech set for Nationalism. 8. Capture Tademkka. Again no losses ...yay!. Started working on national wonder Heroic Epic in mystdale, not sure if thats smart as we here builds our priest. Cancel the wonder if needed. 10. Capture Awdaghost ...ohh..we are getting closer. 12. Mansa capitol is pillaged and captured ... was a bit eager here so lost some units. No biggie 15. Mansa is wiped when the final city of Tekedda falls into our hands!! My thoughts: This war has really put our economy in ruins. We must now decide if we should pick the next civ on the list or try to restore our economy. Maybe do both? ..haha. We still need that great priest and alot of courthouses but our main cities might handle the military production. Here is the save game Link to comment
enci 0
I have only one question ganto: whats happened to Boris:) Turn 1 moved units, renegotiated some deals for some extra coins Turn 2 nationalism -> banking Im obsessed with getting libaralism first for a free tech (something I need to get rid of) and we could choosee military tradition (Cossack!!) but we need money fast, so banking it is heroic epic finished in Mystdale Bismarck likes us, time for some begging Turn 3 Mystdale starts confucian academy so have can have 2 more priest specialists Turn 4 Cyrus wants us to convert to judaism, yeah right… Turn 5 banking comes in -> paper Turn 6 Livy says we are the most powerful Cyrus cancels open borders Turn 7 the economic situation is still pathetic, had to lower research Turn 8 Confucian academy finishes in Mystdale, set 3 priests (we have some artist points in the city from the herioc epic, keeping my fingers crossed for a priest) Turn 10 paper-> education, I dont dare to look at the research time Turn 13 forbidden palace finished building in Timbuktu Turn 14. Another GS born, not sure what to do with him, we could either use him to build an academy in Djenne because that city will have serious research potential once properly developed, use him to help research a tech (lets wait until we finish education) or merge him as a super specialist – I’ll leave it for the next player to decide Turn 15 set Mystdale to build angkor wat for the desperately needed GP points Alexander has declared war on washington Economy has got somewhat better, we’re running 20 gold deficit at 70% research St Pete needs farms!, I started to irrigate from the river near Mystdale Rostov would need some farms too but I really dont like to destroy cottages We have an open area in our lands, I expect another civ to settle here soon, but I think we can put enough cultural pressure on a city to eventually convert it 2 stacks of troops are waiting at Nappy’s borders. They cost us a LOT, so we may as well use them, especially because they’ll soon get outdated. We don’t have enough catapults for both stacks though. And not sure the economy can handle more cities. ganto 0
Im sad to say that Boris took one for the team. He will ofc always be remembered and we even made a statue in his honor in moscow! Here is my turnset: Weee ... this time I got to use my builder personality My goal was to strengthen our economy, spread the religon and just build stuff!! 1. World Map for World Map with Bismarck. Declined war with the greeks from Washington. 2. Joined our Great Scientist with Moscow. We are so far ahead with research and no other city seemed good for an additional acadamy. 4. World Map for World Map with Victoria. 5. Education -> Liberalism 8. Novogrod builds Hanging Gardens. 10. Victoria demands we cancel deals with greeks, I decline. Bismarck demands Theology, again I decline. 12. Liberalism -> Economy. Picks Printing Press as freebie, yay...our income is now at +20 14. Economy -> Replaceable Parts. 15. Nappe demands Philosophy, hahaa. My thoughts: All our cities now have our religion. Noticed we got Taoism capitol from Mansa so started spreading that also. Build courthouses, markets, banks as a general rule in all cities..hehe..sry enci . If we get a priest as a GP we wont have any trouble with the economy I think and a war with nappe will be a walk in the park. I also built alot of libraries aswell as monastaries to support 60% tech if needed. There is also a great merchant waiting in Mystdale Here is the save game Edited December 29, 2007 by ganto Link to comment
gogoblender 3,071
I just read this entire thread this morning...What a read! The pics, the stats, info, everything. enci 0
Checked the save, and Napoleon is on par with us in terms of military techs, he has longbows, maces, pikes, knights everything. And as far as I know his AI, he’s not building temples. Should I go after him now? Or wait until we can build cossacks? (they are uber powerful) I kinda worry about his UU, he is very close to having gunpowder so maybe we should strike now. We dont have enough cats, so we can forget about a blitzkrieg Im having an indecisive morning Link to comment
ganto 0
Well enci, just follow rule #13: When in doubt - attack! Hey gogo, glad you like our game so far, world domination is always fun . Time is always an issue but feel free to join in on a turnset anytime, no commitment at all. Its fun! Link to comment
enci 0
As ganto has beautifully consolidated the economy, its time for me to send us bankrupt again 1. merged the great merchant in moscow – the city will get Wall Street so its the best place to merge him (we cant send him to a far away city because of Nappy, considered keeping him to trigger a golden age but after checking GP scores of other cities realized we wont get another GP for some time – except the prophet ofc) renegotiated some deals, begged for some money, usual stuff Though I absolutely love replaceable parts switched research to gunpowder. Sue me, but I want a tech edge over Nappy 2. russian revolt in Karachi Ok, Im in doubt – I declare war of Napoleon Captured 2 workers 3. suffered 2x collateral dam near Marseilles Bombing marseilles, still 25% def bonus, decided to wait spotted a LOT of French units wandering around so bribed Bismark to join the war. I hope he will keep Nappy busy in the North 4. Stuttgart has been captured by the French… ok, not what quite what I expected but at least Nappy IS busy Victoria has declared on Alex Bombed Marseilles’s def down Knight loses vs crossbow Knight wins vs longbow Pike wins vs HA Knight wins vs HA Mace wins vs injured crossbow 2x mace vs catapult Marseilles is ours, and I spot some wine near the city Nappy launches a counterattack near Awdaghost with 8 units We kill some pikes, maces, Has, no casulties, but some units are seriously injured 5. Nappy is spamming catapuls, suffered collateral 4x *sigh* Gunpowder -> military tradition Mkay, I cant cant believe somebody has beat us to Angkkor Wat, we get 496 gold for our efforts Considered changing civics, but spotted the Pyramids in Paris and decided to wait until we capture the city 6. the people of Karachi wish to join our illustrious empire. It is on the worst spot imaginable, so I disband the city 7. bombing Paris 8. lost our scout to a french knight Coventry is captured by the greek The battle of Paris: Checking the odds decided better start with a suicide cat 3x Mace loses vs longbow Mace wins vs pike, finally Kinghts wins vs longbow Mace wins vs cat Longbows clear up remaining defences and look what we have here 9. lost a knight to a sneaky pike 10. Nappy is attacking Paris with cats Military trad -> replaceaple parts As we have captured Paris with pyramids, time for some civic change: Universal suffrage ( + hammer from towns) Free Market and slavery -> serfdom (faster workers (we still have land to improve, and we havent been using the whip lately anyway) 12. bombing Avignon Knight loses vs longbow despite better odds Knight wins vs maces Maces finishes off longbow 13. Cyrus has declared on Alex 14. Weeeeee St Thomas Aquinas is born in Msytdale, send him to Moscow Never been so happy to see a prophet income jumps from 12 to 44 gpt 15. Nappy launched a serious counterattck on Paris, lost a few units The D.a.r.k Empire And our remaining forces in Paris and Avignon: And the save Link to comment
fRACTAL 0
Wow.. You guys are way better than me... CIV woes still continue, I think my problems are a conflict though, not sure what the conflict is between though... ~Doom Link to comment
ganto 0
Yay enci!! ..gj . Couldnt resist and did my turn as soon as I saw your post. Oh Tim ... I so hoped for you to join in the fun, but we will start a new game as soon as we are done, right enci? so as soon as your sorted your issues come play Here is my turnset: Not sure what nappe will throw at us but planned to forify our front and newly captured cities. Domination victory seems possible so also had my sights set on settling additional cities. 2. Wow ..2.000g to spend ... I upgraded all knights to cossaks. Cheap, only 500g spent Replacable Parts -> Rifiling 3. Dye for wheat with Asoka. 4. Defending our cities, no losses but they destroyed some farms and roads...grrrr 6. Grr ..bismarck made peace with napoleon. So much for that help 8. Rifiling -> Divine Rights 10. Napoleon wants peace. Sure, if you give us all your gold and cities!! 11. Divine Rights -> Constitution 12. Victoria settled near our borders 14. Orelans is no more. Yay 15. Founded new city. Ohh ... no defender but a rifleman will be there in a turn or two. My thoughts: Our economy is blooming ... some of our cities are upset because of the war . Napoleon has 4 cities left so shouldnt be an issue but spread taoism and build some temples. Cossaks are really owning napoleon so im thinking we should pick the next victim and attack as soon as napoleon is no more. Railroad is so close now and then we will have an autobahn to the front So sweet if we could win by domination, we should settle some more cities for more land coverage and even some within our borders for the pop boost. Here is the save game Link to comment
enci 0
Awesome turnset, epic post ganto My plans are simple: mop up Nappy We have two stack of units, the southern army is targeting Chartres and Rheims, the northern one is heading for Lyons, Tours and whatever ctites Nappy has captured from Bismarck. Turn 2. constitution ->steam power Turn 4. k, just realized, last turn I wanted to upgrade the maces to riflemen, apparently I clicked on the grenadier icon…. Well, it could be worse, I could have disbanded the whole army after all Turn 5. Lyon Lost one cossack duh Turn 6. Turn 7. steam power-> steel Settled Vladivostok, we can hook up these cuties War weariness is getting out of hand, there’s nothing I can do about it right now Turn 8. Chartres Cossacks own everything I let our medic attack last so he gets a weak opponent and still get some xp, he has 88,5% chance… guess what, we lose, say bye to medic II…. Sry, thats my luck Turn 9. golden age has ended Turn 12. steel- >railroad Turn 13. Tours: With all the war weariness we have I decided not to wait and attacked with 33% city def remaining No loses Rheims: No loses here either At this point I think I messed something up… Ive counted 13 turns so far, but only 50 years have passed that means 10 turns Im a bit confused but numbers dont lie and I have to play until 1800, but I wont make another attempt to keep track of the turns .... If war weariness wasn’t enough, the d.a.r.k citizens want to be emancipated now. Just great... We can build Iron Works and West point. Highest production city should get these, problem is that highest prod city is Moscow which should get Wall Street too. So my vote goes for Novgorod, once we have some more farms there, that city will have the most hammers anyway. Started West Point there And Napoleon’s last stand The battle of Dortmund no, we’re not giving the city back.... The French civilization has been destroyed!! Railroad-> astronomy Automated some workers to build roads and its 1800 AD so my reign is over .... Settled a few ice/tundra cities, there’s room for a few more, but we dont really need the population, only the land for the domination victory After astronomy and maybe we should aim for a, democracy because the citizens are whining about emancipation b, corporation for Wall Street (income has took a bit of a dive, nothing to worry about though) And spread Christianity, Orleans already has the Church of Nativity built. And with Nappy out of the way, we can spread Confucianism beyond our borders About the next victim: our 3 neighbours happen to be the exact civs friendly with us. Not that it would matter, we excel at backstabbing Bismarck has the coolest cities with Versailles and Spiral Minaret.... his best buddy, Asoka will probably help him out. Asoka is doing very well in the tech race btw, he already has rifles but we can easily outproduce both of them. And we also have these: Can you say cottage cheese? The Empire and the overall score: Save Link to comment
tomi 0
Hi friends! If you still need a player I would like to try it...if you want, but I never played CIV like this before. (Maybe I should watch what you do for a while) Ideas? I'd be glad if I could join later! Link to comment

ganto 0
Hehe ... no doubt anymore that the D.a.r.k empire will prosper and finally conquer all. The only question is what kind of victory it will be! Here is my turnset: With the war finally over I planned to build, build and build again. With the discovery of coal and factory so close I planned to build that motorway through our empire so we can easily transport our troops for the next invasion. Sry for a short post and as I was kind of in a hurry I left some big dicisions for the next player. 1. Alexander wants paper. Nope 4. Astronomy -> Democracy 6. Alexander visits ...haha..I just love that -5 relation. 7. Democracy -> Corperation 10. Corperation -> Assembly Line Yay, factories ....so sweet! 12. Assembly Line -> Combustion My thoughts: We can now build wall street and ironworks aswell as do some civic changes. Ill let you decide enci what to get and where to build. Our autobahn almost stretches across our vast empire now so invasion is due soon. Factories are building in almost all our cities and can soon produce new troops. I settled some cities where we had space, not really needed but oh so fun. Our troops are fortified in our front cities, built some workers and automated them for trade network but we could use some more. Spread the religion and built more monastaries and temples. myles 2
Seeing all these civ fun I digged up my civ 3 to play lol. For some reason civ 4 won't run on my labtop, even though it meets the requirement. From your game I can already see differences, but mostly it is the same right? Oh I heard that corruption is out, so how was that changed? Curious curious. Link to comment
ganto 0
[...] From your game I can already see differences, but mostly it is the same right? Oh I heard that corruption is out, so how was that changed? [...] Oh yes, mostly its the same and thats the good thing. They managed to keep the core of civ imho and just make it better in almost every aspect They changed quite alot compared to civ 3 and the corruption is gone like you said, epic/huge empires are now doable and only upkeep, not production, is affected. Sooo many cool features/changes to list but checkout this link at civfanatics for a more complete one. Religions and great people are the biggest one. Link to comment
enci 0
No specific goal for this turnset, just heading silently towards domination victory Turn 2. combustion-> scientific method civic switch to take full advantage of the cottages: Vassalage -> Free Speech for extra coins Serfdom -> Emancipation for faster cottage growth Turn 5 scientific method -> physics peaceful building well, what else? oh yes, I declared war on.... . . . Bismarck at this point it doesn’t actually matter who we attack, we just need the land. And Bismarck has some golden eggs in his cities Our cities are building factories, but once those are finished we'll start producing garrison units for the new cities to keep the offensive going. Turn 6 some minor skirmish with German forces Turn 7 Bismarck is attacking Dortmund with cavalries, no real threat our armies are marching towards Frankfurt and Cologne Turn 8. Physics -> Electricity and we get a GS for reaching physics first, he’s merged in the capital – actually I should have used him to help research the next tech or saved him for a golden age. With very little time remaining, merging wasn’t the best option Turn 9 statue of liberty finishes in Moscow -> wall street The forces at Frankfurt cossaks still rule some minutes later the city is ours, and inside we find: mkay it may be obsolete already Turn 10. The battle of Cologne check out those city garrison II rifles, scary our best chance is the grenadiers lost 2 of them but managed to save all the veteran units and what have we here... Turn 12. Electricity -> Biology Wanted to choose industrialism for tanks, but noticed that a lot of cities has stopped growing so the +1 food from farms will come handy. And we need garrison units (infantry) before tanks anyway. Turn 14. Wonder happy turn: started Pentagon in Mystdale, Broadway in St Pete hmmm Ive just said we need garrison units... finally moved the armies out of the cities, they are more or less healed The northern front: and the southern one: Turn 15 biology -> industrialism couple of infantry are on go-to routes toward Tours and Rheimes The state of the Empire: and the save Link to comment
ganto 0
Tomi, got word from enci that you cant play at the moment and that you passed your turn. Let us know when you can though I fear this game soon comes to an end Here is my turnset: Ok, this was just pure joy ..hehe... with tanks almost researched and bismarck soon to be conqured it almost felt sad ... dont want it to end. Anyway .. tried to sneak in some general building and not play it to fast. 1. Spent ALL our gold on upgrades; archers -> infantary, longbows -> infantary and so on. Did it to prevent any sneak attack from sea. 5. Industrialism -> Flight we have tanks! 7. Battle of berlin. No casualties and fell without any real defence At the same turn Hamburg fell aswell... poor bismarck! NOT! 8. A prophet is born in mystdale. Sent him to build a holy city for taoism. Added antother 60g/turn 9. Flight -> Medicine. Wee.. lets build some airports!! Medicine for enviromental civic 10. poor bismarck wants peace ...and offer 10g ..wee..ty...but no! 11. Bremen fell, was a lousy level 2 city so disbanded the city. We now have more than 50 million paying tax!! 13. Medicine -> Radio I want those happy wonders 15. Radio -> Mass media More wonders!! ...hihi My thoughts: Oki, nothing much this time, we only need 5% more land to win. Just attack any civ now as we have several tanks close to the border aswell as lots of airports built. If you play it well now enci you can win on your next turnset Here is the save game Edited January 12, 2008 by ganto Link to comment
enci 0
Couldnt wait Ok, so I started playing, crashed at turn 2, then after restarting I forgot to fire up Fraps. I was pressing the screenshot button like crazy, but yeah, no pics. Very anticlimactic I know... Reloaded the last turn to capture the final moments though Turn 1. Finishing of Bismarck Munich everyone’s favourite battle: tank vs longbow and the last German city, Essen we still need about 5 more % land Turn 2. Mass Media -> artillery Turn 3. Pentagon finishes in Mystdale, +2 experience from now on Turn 4. Artillery -> rocketry so we can upgrade cossaks upgraded all cannon to artillery Turn 5 it finally occurred to me that we can raise research, at 80% we still make 219 gpt Declared war on Asoka, our closest neighbour. Spotted some SAM infantry and artillery in his cities. Im impressed Turn 6 lost some workers to Indian cavalries Turn 7. Rocketry -> computers Turn 8. Captured Mycenean (lost one tank to an infantry duh) also captured Lahore Turn 9. As Fukuyama has envisaged: Well, what can I say, good job! Link to comment
